Fantastic wildlife lens. Even handheld on an R5C without IBIS, the images are sharp at 500mm. I do wish it reached 600mm, but the 1.4x teleconverter works great, and with good lighting it still delivers super-sharp results. Fast autofocus, strong stabilization, and surprisingly lightweight. Excellent for bird photography.

Great reach, much lighter than my 150-600mm Sigma, fast autofocus, very sharp pictures. Only complaint is the Tripod collar doesn't completely lock down, it gives a little. A bit too pricey, also.

The Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens is an absolute game-changer for wildlife and sports photography enthusiasts. Its build quality, hallmark of Canon’s L-series, is both durable and lightweight, making it perfect for photographers on the go. The lens extends its reach to an incredible 500mm while still maintaining sharpness and image clarity throughout the zoom range. The image stabilization (IS) on this lens is nothing short of spectacular. Even at the extreme telephoto range, handheld shots come out crisp and stable, thanks to its 5-stop IS system. Paired with a Canon EOS R series camera, the lens performs brilliantly, delivering fast autofocus and exceptional accuracy, making it a reliable tool for tracking fast-moving subjects like birds or athletes. Despite its relatively modest maximum aperture, this lens still provides beautiful background blur, creating stunning subject isolation. The zoom ring operates smoothly, and the lens’s overall ergonomics are spot-on, making long shoots more comfortable. Plus, its weather-sealing ensures peace of mind when shooting in unpredictable outdoor conditions. The Canon RF 100-500mm’s versatility, combined with its impressive optical performance, makes it one of the best telephoto zoom lenses on the market for anyone looking to capture action from a distance. Whether you're shooting wildlife, sports, or even distant landscapes, this lens is a must-have addition to your kit.

This lens is fantastic! Sharp images, great magnification and use cases are awesome! One of the things that i wanted to clear up with this review is what it "DOES" come with when purchased. Doesn't Seem like Canon nor Best buy have it clearly listed - so here it goes: 1) Lense RF 100-500mm F/4.5-7.1 L IS USM telephoto Lens 2) Lens Hood (ET-83F) 3) Tripod Mount (Yes it does include it) 4) Case 5) Strap. Case is actually pretty nice! Attached are some pictures of the Product along with a couple space photos i took with it tonight (1/12/2022). Keep in mind this is just using a Canon EOS R6 (My Nightime Camera) and this lens no tracking mount nor filters. You can see Orions Nebulae at 100mm or 500mm quite easily and if you run an Extender (Canon RF2x) then you can get 600 to 1000mm out of this lens which makes it even better in my honest opinion. Moon shot was take with an 2x Extender. Other space pictures were just the lens and no extender one at 100mm the other at 500mm, Both of the night time sky and Orion Nebulae. Overall very happy with the lens and it is proving to be quite versatile. The Simple things like having a sliding door on the hood to make adjusting a lens filter easier (Priceless)..

Love this lens on my R8. Sharpness is out of this world at all focal lengths and the build quality is incredible. Only downside is the price, but you get what you pay for. Absolutely love the 100-500!

After reading all the 5 star reviews, I decided to purchase this lens, the cost is high but well worth it. I mainly photograph raptors and this lens does not disapoint. Its sharp and stays in focus. I use the R6 . I do have the 600mm lens and does a good job but as its limitations, This lens does not

Awesome Canon RF telephoto/zoom lens created !

This is just such an awesome RF lens that Canon created for the R series camera. I used to own the EF 100-400 II and was also a great lens but many adapt the 100-400 II to the R cameras via the adapter and produces excellent pictures as well. But the 100-500 is just much lighter in weight than the EF version and made and optimized for the R series and outperforms the EF version. Even when attached to the RF 1.4X teleconverter it still autofocusses really fast. I love it both for wildlife, bird photography and the zoom from 100mm is good for composing landscapes as well. Also good for flowers and insects like butterflies though not a macro lens its minimum focus distance of 0.9m (less than 3 feet) is really impressive. Highly recommend this lens to anyone looking for RF telephoto /zoom.

I am using this with a Canon R3. This lens is amazing to say the least. I was able to even focus on butterflies from about 15ft away. The L-Series glass is always worth it. The colors stay true and the detail is preserved. Full zoom at 500mm w/ 7.1 aperture is amazing. My ISO was always around 2500. Recommended for beginners and professionals. Yes it’s pricey but you will not regret it. This lens will allow you to tab into a whole new world of photography. After renting this lens multiple times, I decided I needed to own it. The pictures I have been able to capture with this lens would not have been possible with my 70-200mm. Would I love a faster aperture, of course, but with the ISO range of the R5, I haven't had an issue.

I am using it with an R5. Very sharp lens and amazing focus speed. I both aspects I find it a tad better than the EF 100-400 L II, and of course, the bigger focal range is a plus, too.
