My first digital camera is Canon Rebel T3i and I wanted an easy to use, external flash that gave great results in a variety of conditions. Speedlite430EXII much easier to get great flash results than the comparable Sigma model tested.

With this flash I was able to get some great lighting for both my indoor and outdoor shoots. The batteries (takes 4) lasted almost the whole event (the flash was used from 12 noon and died around 9pm)... thankfully I always have extra batteries. Also, I did try to remember to turn the flash off when I was not using it.

Still getting up to speed on all of its many features, but this flash did a great job for me in basically full automatic mode during a shoot at a large party. It illuminated scenes out to at least 30 feet very nicely with moderately fast ASA settings selected, adjusting its output automatically as I adjusted the zoom setting on my lens.

Flash works as expected. Controls are confusing without being knowledgable of them. Lasts decent time without replacing batteries. Requires 4 double As.

I use this flash with my Rebel T2i. I thought having a built in flash was sufficient for my needs. I noticed after a few shots with the built in flash, the camera would go into busy mode, charging the flash up. When I purchased the Speedlite all the waiting was now in the past. I no longer had to wait for the flash. The flash was now waiting on me. I'm a real person with a real opinion. Don't doubt yourself and get this flash.

This flash is great for beginners. It is very easy to use and gives pictures a great touch. It works great in low light areas and makes pictures look like if there was plenty of light when it was taken.

I do photography on the side and was looking for a way to have better control over lighting when natural light wasn't always in my favor. This flash has provided significant help in that area for me. Especially dealing with newborns and small children where movement is common and a bright flash makes for a washed out picture. It provides great fill light and refreshes pretty quickly. This flash is on my Canon Rebel T3i. One of the features I like is all of the positions that flash can go in from head on to tilting to the left and right side of the camera so that you can bounce it off of different things. I can't speak to much about all of the features that comes with the flash because I haven't gotten into the technical side of it yet. I would say that the only downfall that I have had so far is that the buttons are set pretty deep into the flash which makes them flush with the casing. I am a guy with pretty big fingers, so it is not always the easiest to push in the buttons. Other then that there is nothing to complain about. If asked whether or not I would buy this again, I would definitely buy it again. The price is pretty high but if you plan to use it a lot, you will get your money's worth out of it. When deciding whether or not to spend the money on this flash compared to a Walmart brand, I did a lot of research and listened to what other reviewers said about getting non name brand flashes. I heard more bad then good with going the route of not getting a branded (canon) flash and put it on a quality camera.

I purchased this flash to go with my Canon 6D and T3. I use this on both cameras and what a difference. For those that don't know, The Canon 6D has no built in flash, and the Canon T3 has a 'Pop-up" flash. The pop-up flash is ok to use in a pinch, and the light is sometimes to harsh and casts some very hard and undesirable shadows. But when I slide the 430 EX II in the Hot Shoe of the T3, it turns into a whole different monster. With the swivel of the 430 EX II, I can bounce light off of walls and ceilings to get some great even light. I have used it in Manual mode and ETTL and I have achieved some awesome results.

Picked this beauty up at a reasonable price with price match, and have been very happy with it since. Don't let its initial release date fool you, this flash is still relevant. Great for those who want to be able to use their flash for fill light, or get more creative than the flashes lower in the line allow you to be. Much more powerful than I expected. The quick release is great, and the metal hot shoe gives me the confidence to be a bit more relaxed with my shooting and moving my camera around quicker. Have yet to get it into a slave situation, but am looking forward to putting it through some paces once I do.
