Was a great movie. But, whereas best buy usually has good prices, I found this movie to be cheaper at two other stores the same week. Best buy did price match, but it still requires me to research price, bring in the ad, and then they have to call the other store to make sure they have the same product in stock. I think Best buy should just competitively price to begin with. I frequently buy things elsewhere just to save the hassle of the price match. I have been buying movies long enough to know what their price will be on the initial offering week. I would think Best buy knows this also. The reason I went through the hassle this time was that I had a reward coupon to use. I would always choose Best buy first though if the price was the same, so that I could get reward points.

Great movie! Much of the movie’s pleasure comes from watching Hanks, the cagey pro, develop a rhythm with Barkhad Abdi, a real find as the Head Hijacker in Charge. Abdi is loose and wiry, and he has a gift for conveying bluster that doesn’t quite believe itself. The pirates are basically big, dangerous kids without a lot to lose. Once they abscond with Phillips on a lifeboat and start negotiating with the Navy, everyone but them seems to understand their crime won’t end well. Together they’re a little like Al Pacino’s Sonny in Dog Day Afternoon, very human and naive enough to think they’ll get away with it.

I saw this movie as small glimpse into a country without a government, where the young are exploited by those with power for self gain. These kids were forced out into the Golf of Aden to commit piracy. They committed themselves into overtaking a vessel from a power greater than those they served; the United States of America. I can't think of any greater scene to present this than when the young Somlian came face to face with the U.S. Military from the little boat he used to leave the vessel. It was great to see the crew of the vessel overcome and survive the ordeal, particularly Captain Phillips (the heat and cigarette smoking in that little boat would have made me go crazy), while at the same time an unfortunate event for the young Somolians.

This is a good movie, very interesting. Tom Hanks does a good job acting in this movie.

The story brings to light the plight facing individuals in other countries that seek a better life. However the taking of life for the want of others financial gain is against civil law and creates unrest on the waterways of this world. Tom Hanks and his crew do an outstanding portrayal of what it is like to work on the open seas. The crew seeking ransom for the captian meet with the fate of their own desire for others. This is a great story to use in the classroom to gauge the psychological heartbeat of those who seek to destroy others for their own gain...It is filled with adventure, suspense, and great compassion for the crew and captain-who are on a mission of mercy to feed hungry people in the same region of the pirates.

If you are like me you've probably wondered how pirates could exist in today's world. Moreover how could they possibley hi jack a 12 story high ship as big as an aircraft carrier. Well Captain Phillips will answer that question for you and much, much, more. I love the docudrama feel to the movie, that gives you the perception of danger, foreboding, and the sheer magnitude of the ship and the ocean. But more importantly the realism. The performances are right on, (academy award level) and draw you in to the crew and pirates reality. This turned into a 5 star movies which suprised me even after the awards. Go and enjoy this look at modern piracy and escape for a 2 hour cruise.

Movie wise was a great and thought out plan . It looks as it was close to real world threats they we are dealing with today . Life is tough and it has made things worse in other countries to survive and this is showing the rest of the world what is happening over there . Setting was good ,Plot was good and drama was good. The Steelbook packaging was pretty good . This was my key point on buying the movie. I have collected Blu ray movies for years . But due to money and cut backs I quit buying everything and now just buy the steelbook release's for collecting . Best Buy needs to step up with more Steelbook's of major movies so I can add them to my collection.
