This is such an amazing film from beginning to end. Tom Hanks is incredible playing Captain Phillips, one of hit bests ever IMO! The gentleman playing the captain of the somali pirates was fabulous as well! But you're on the edge of your seat until the very end and its been awhile since a movie grabbed us like that! You won't go wrong at all with this purchase!

It's Tom Hanks.. 'Nuff said. But seriously, this is a great flick. Hanks won't do any bad ones. I'm pretty sure that this is his co-star's first movie - but you would never know it. The fact that he is able to hang with such a seasoned professional onscreen is remarkable. Not only did he hold his own, but he nailed his role as the lead pirate. Must see movie!

Great movie, great format. Captain Phillips is an outstanding thriller with top-notch performances. Tom Hanks delivers yet another masterful job as the real-life captain who defied the odds. The Blu-ray gives crisp picture and sound to further enhance the viewing experience. Bonus features are also great. Must-own Blu-ray for every collection!

Captain Phillips is an exciting story based on real-life events. The pacing of the story held my attention and kept me engaged throughout the movie. The extra features confirmed the plight of the pirates and their limited choices making their characters in the movie seem even more real. Very engaging without objectionable level of violence.

Director Paul Greengrass, best known for the Bourne Trilogy and United 93, recreates the 2009 hijacking of the Maersk Alabama in intricate, specific, painful detail. Tom Hanks gives one of his best performances, and newcomer Barkhad Abdi, as captain of the hijackers, deserves all the attention he's been receiving as of late. One of the best films of 2013.

These days storylines in many movies are based on true events. When you watch those movies there will atleast be a thin line that differentiates the movie to the actual event. Actors like Hanks, by his wonderful acting, make us believe what we are seeing on the screen is real and not just based on the true events.

This movie is based on the true story of a Maersk container ship being stalked and captured by Somali pirates off the horn of Africa. Though the captain attempts to thwart the pirates, he is kidnapped for ransom and dramatically rescued by the US Navy. The drama is compelling. It was interesting to see what life is like on a container vessel. Whether you remember these events unfolding in the news or seeing other acts of piracy reported in the news currently, this film provides insight into what is occurring.

I thought that it was a very good movie. I like that it gives a good point of view from both sides. The pirates and the ships crew. The tension of the film dosen't let up an never gets boring. I enjoyed how the captain kept on tring to find ways to hamper the pirates efforts. It's a enjoyable film to watch and is good for repeated viewings.

Personally I like movies based on real events and if they tell the story as I it is like a documentary all the better. I don't like it if I think they have taken a lot of poetic license to make the story more exciting or compelling. That does not appear to be the case here. And Tom Hanks is truly a chameleon of an actor. He can play any part and make himself believable in it. Being that this event actually happened so recently it was interesting to see how it actually played out and was an enjoyable movie to watch.

Tom Hanks gives a great performance along with a couple of local heroes here from Virginia Beach. Some of this movie was filmed in the Chesapeake Bay which is kool because word got around pretty quick that Tom Hanks was in town. This is not my favorite movie but definitely one I would watch again as it provides excellent insight into one of the world 's most terrifying aspects of sea travel, pirating. There are also some essential supporting actors in their first major roles that add to this mivie's substenance.

Based on a true story... I cannot begin to imagine how scared Captain Phillips and his crew must have been in real life. These man were brave, and led by an amazing captain who knew exactly how to react in this dangerous situation. Worth watching, this movie will keep you on the edge of your seat, hoping for everyone's safety.

Of course, everyone knows the real life story. The movie did a great job of accurately telling the story. The story unfolds before you, holds your attention, portrays the characters as average people, put into a very dangerous situation, and their reactions. The ending was abrupt, as it probably is when force is used. Excellent movie.

I regard this as one of -- if not the best -- films of the year in which it was released. The acting is uniformly excellent, the events are portrayed very realistically and generally historically accurately, and the director used his trademark documentary-style approach to create a very involving, intense, and educational drama.

This is a great movie. The story line was great, being it was based on a true story. Some of the greatest actors of all time, keep you on the edge of your seat. A lot of excitement and action. This one you have to keep watching to see what is going to happen next. A great movie !

This is best movie I have seen in such a long time! Tom Hanks always puts his best out there as was seen again in this movie! The rest of the actors were also great and very realistic for the geographical setting and theme for this movie. The re-creation of this event, it was based on a true story, was also superbly done!

I have always been a Tom Hanks fan. This movie was absolutely wonderful. Hanks played his part well in depicting the tragic events. Although none of us will really know if the movie exactly portrays the events, Hanks's acting is nothing but superb. This is yet another Tom Hanks movie I could watch over and over.

This film seems to be a mostly accurate recreation of the piracy, with the remarkable Captain Phillips very well portrayed by Tom Hanks. Military aspects of the event are quietly understated, and it's all very believable. In sum, it strongly conveys what it may have felt like to experience the event.

Am the captain of this review! A pun on the movie. My mom loves tom hanks.. the guy that played castaway.. Forest gump? But this time.. He is losing control to pirates and the tension is there.

One of the best movies of 2013. Edge of your seat movie from start to finish. Paul Greengrass does a great job of directing the new actors that portrayed the pirates. The lead pirate got an Oscar nomination for his role. Shame Tom Hanks didn't get one for his role. The last few scenes are the absolute best.

I loved the movie. There are not many movies based on true stories that have been pretty good in the last few years. Tom Hanks does a fantastic job (as he always does) portraying Capt. Phillips. Besides this movie, the other true story film I would recommend getting is Lone Survivor with Mark Wahlberg.
