I have been a have been a huge fan of Studio Ghibli since the first time I discovered their animated movies. I enjoy reading the subtitles while listening to the English translations. The most important part about the art is that it goes beyond the simplicity of its character design. When you watch this movie, look past the characters and embrace the scenery that was created by the artists. The depth of colors that go into making a scene is amazing. I always enjoy the stars they get to do the voice-overs. This particular movie will always have a special place in my family’s hearts.

Miyazaki's 2nd 'Studio Ghibli' feature film (though Nausicaa technically predated the studio's existence) was originally known under the title Tenkuu no Shiro LAPUTA, roughly translated to Castle in the Sky Laputa. It's an influential anime (Gainax's Fushigi no Umi no Nadia tv series borrowed the levitation stone and some other bits) and a bonafide classic. Every anime fan should see this film, as should animation fans in general. I haven't yet watched the GKIDS Blu-ray but have read positive reviews. Thhe older release by Buena Vista had issues with problematic 'dubtitles' that have apparently been corrected by the new subtitles used on this release.

Thus movie (like every Hayo/Ghibli movie) is beautifully animated with a beautiful story line to go with it! This is definitely a classic that anyone (old or young) should have in their movie collection. Also it looks better than EVER in HD on Blu-Ray! I owned the DVD version perviously & I could instantly tell the difference! Especially since this is an older movie ('87 I think is the year it was theatrically released in Japan?) So if you own the DVD version & are on the fence about upgrading then do it!!! All the studio Ghibli movies look amazing on Blu-Ray to be honest. Especially the older classics! I'm glad studio Ghibli/Disney is finally releasing all of their movies in HD!

Similar issues with the older Ghibli films in that it can look grainy and stretched but still worth the rewatch!

Castle in the Sky is lush, epic, evocative storytelling. It's easily one of my favorite few Miyazaki films, with a satisfying story, the sort of setting that inspires a deep longing, and colorful characters. The bluray is a significant upgrade over my previous Disney DVD. Don't expect a ton more detail, as the artwork just doesn't have as much fine detail as later Ghibli films, but what's there is shown in a much cleaner and more satisfying presentation. I also like that they include a booklet with the discs.

Fantastic visuals, and fantastic story. Miyazaki is an absolute god in these films.

Studio jubilee's castle in the sky studio generally does some of the best anime

This is a fun movie that we enjoy watching. Great for kids and adults.

Easily in my top 5 favorite Studio Ghibli films! The film takes inspiration from the stories surrounding Treasure Island or the lost city of Atlantis, but Miyazaki and his studio give it its own identity and soul. Intriguing, emotional, suspenseful, and adventurous. This movie succeeds in hitting every note that a classic and memorable movie should, and allows itself to be enjoyed by nearly any kind of audience member. Really the closest thing to perfection that a film can get.

A good Studio Ghibli movie, worth a watch for an afternoon

The subtitles are FIXED for the Japanese Version! And the English Dubbed Version gets 2 of them where you can have the 2003 approved score, or with the Original Score in Digital Dolby 5.1. If anything, the Disney Blu Ray Version exists to have the English Dubbed in Original Score in DTS MA. So You might wanna keep that around, and you also wanna keep the 2003 DVD Version if you for some reason are curious about the added lines that were said...

I've just recently been introduced to the magic that is Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki. I started with My Neighbor Totoro and now this is the second film I've watched by the famous studio. For background, I don't really watch anime, or cartoons for that matter. However, this movie transcends its medium and is utterly beautiful. The Blu-Ray is wonderfully done and the images really pop. The story is a great derivation of "Gulliver's Travels." In short, it's worth every penny.

Not what I expected but was an ok movie, it was a gift.

Saying it's another Miyazaki classic is like saying water is wet. It's a given. You can depend on all of his movies to be great and this one is no exception. The new voice cast helps open this movie up to those that may not have tried it before due to its foreign origins. That's a good thing because once someone tries one of his movies they'll want to see them all. Castle in the Sky is a great start into Miyazaki's unique world.

This is one I generally forget about, but then I watch it and fall in love with it all over again. I love the message of the movie, and Miyazaki and his team always create memorable, strong, and engaging characters - not just the protagonists and antagonists either. The side characters are created and included for a reason, and you feel for them (positive and negative emotions) just as much as you do the main characters.

Action-packed and full of intrigue, Castle in the Sky is Studio Ghibli's formal debut in 1986. (The success of Nausicaa, released two years earlier, helped spawn the creation of Studio Ghibli in 1985.) As with most Ghibli releases, recurring themes of power and balance, nature and will take front stage in Castle in the Sky. These everlasting themes still feel appropriate to this day.

I am the fan on Miyazaki's early days movies, like Nausicaa, Future boy Conan. Among them, personally, I think this "Castle in the sky" is the best. The story, the action and the hidden message in the movie. Compared with the other movies, like Dark Knight, it also shows the basic greed instinct of human being and the results of it effectively, even though this is an animation movie. Highly recommended.

I saw this movie on Adult Swim's Toonami one night, but I caught it with only about 30 minute left. That last 30 minutes had me so captivated that I had to watch the whole movie. I was excited to see this on the shelf in the local Best Buy, so I swooped it up right away. The animation is beautiful and story line is excellent as well. This is a must for any Anime fan.

This is another wonderful film by Hayao Miyazaki I recommend you also watch the bonus features this man has so much talent and the actors that work on his films are also special in that they can dub the films in English so well Miyazaki' movies are a joy to watch and when you have background info on them it makes them even more enjoyable
