One can not see Neptune or Mars, more frustration than fun. Very difficult to fine tune into target.

Bought it for my adult grandson and me. Gives us precious time together doing something that is fun and enjoyable. And the Cometron 114AZ checks all the right boxes. It was easy to assemble, set up, and in no time we were looking at the Moon, Mars, Venus, etc. Plus it's a great telescope for beginners.

It is light weight and easy to carry around your backyard, deck and if cold outside from a window to another in your home. Good wide field view. Star clusters look amazing. Make of the product is good.

    Better than Most Beginner Scopes

The Cometron 114 Telescope is very easy to set up. The viewfinder is one of the better ones I’ve used but it does need to sighted in as accurate as possible to ensure your telescope is aligned. The image in the scope is upside down but that is normal for this type of telescope. The moon looks great with both eye pieces. Just waiting for Saturn, Jupiter or Mars to become viable. My only negative concern is the scope mount - the scope is held onto the mount by the pressure of one screw. To ensure the scope doesn’t accidentally slide off the mount you’ll need to keep checking that the screw is screwed in tightly. Minus one star for that.

    THE beginning astronomer's telescope

I decided to take up stargazing about a year ago, but was hesitant in purchasing beginner's equipment. Initially I wanted to take up astrophotography, but with little research discovered that it would require a greater investment. The Cometron was among several "top choice" lists for beginning telescopes due to its light gathering abilities and ease of use. After 4 months with this telescope I can confirm what some have said about it being a solid entry telescope. It allows to view the moon in great detail with the provided lenses. Planetary observation is also possible, but I've had to invest in a higher magnification (4mm) lens to see Saturn and Jupiter in greater detail. The included 20 mm lens allows for pleasant views of the Ptolemy Star cluster, the Pleiades, and other globular and open clusters. It is possible to view Andromeda as a faint glow in the sky and the Orion Nebula is very pleasant to look at and its nebulosity is easily discerned. The included 10mm lens provides the best view for single stars. Trust me when I say that this telescope will turn anyone with even the slightest interest in stargazing into an astronomy enthusiast. That's what it has done for me.

We love this one. Puts our old one to shame, but I suggest getting the extra sizes of lenses and filters to go with it.
