I purchased the 1978 James Michener television mini-series for my father an mother as a Christmas gift. As they both love history and all stories with the western-frontier, they loved this selection, and have already started watching it. Boasting an all star 1970s top notch classic television cast with (among many not mentioned): Richard Chamberlin (Dr Kildare), Raymond Burr (Perry Mason), and Dennis Weaver (Duel), Chad Everett (Medical Center), Sally Kellerman (M.A.S.H.), Robert Conrad (Wild Wild West), Richard Crenna (Rambo), Donald Pleasance (Halloween), Lynn Redgrave (Georgy Girl), Andy Griffith (The Andy Griffith Show), Timothy Dalton (Flash Gordon), Robert Vaughn (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), Gregory Harrison (Trapper John, M.D.), Sharon Gless (Cagney & Lacey), and David Janssen (The Fugitive) as the narrator. Reasonably priced with hours of television and bonus features.

I caught part of this Mini Series on Tv one day and became interest. I was unable to watch the whole thing so I tried to track it down. Luckily I ran across it while browsing the local Best Buy. I decided to take a chance on it. It payed off pretty well for the little money I spent. Definitely got my money's worth seeing as it's 12 episode that are a good hour or more in length. It was a interesting plots with some familiar faces. It may take a little while to make your way through the entire series but it will be well worth the trip.

I was a fairly new resident to Colorado when this series first aired on TV. Keep in mind that this was waaaaay bacccck before VCR's. My boyfriend and I would be out on a date or something, but ALWAYS made it back home in time to sit down for that weekly episode. I have the whole VHS set, but needed the DVD --- AND IT WAS ONLY $14 BUCKS FOR THE WHOLE DARN THING. I paid $200 for the whole VHS set.

I was looking through the movie section at Best Buy and found this. I wasn't even looking for it. I loved this series when it 1st aired, and have not seen it since. I am going to start watching it again tonight.

I really liked this movie. A telling of how our nation moved westward across the great expanse of our young country. The courage and perseverance of the pioneers is awe inspiring as they faced the harsh frontier. An adventure and fortunes for those that answered the call and survived the journey.

I've been looking for this mini series for a while, with no luck. How surprised I was to find it in my local Best Buy & at under $15. It allowed a bit of faith to be restored in Best Buy.

A very entaining miniseries with a wide variety of actors and actresses. The show is very entertaining and represents the history of the early years of exploring the rocky mouintain area.

This movie does a good job of being a docudrama that frames a love story and family history within the history of the development of the wild west.

I remember watching this series during the 80's and I enjoyed this copy as much as I did when I saw it the first times. Good quality disks

At this this seems slow since it is twenty hours long. Covers a long time period of Colorado history.
