Robert Downey Jr is at his best in this great biopic. So many stars to bring the life story of Charlie Chaplin to the screen.

This by far is Robert Downey Jr.s best work to date. We see Chaplin's humble beginnings and the tragedy of his mother's mental illness. His rise from vaudeville to the heights of movie stardom. We also see the other things about his life. Known for his leftist view in the McCarthy era he drew the ire of J. Edgar Hoover. After a scandalous paternity trail in which the judge declared to blood test showing Chaplin was not the child's father. After the trail the Chaplin's decide to go to Europe. They then learn that Charlie will not be allowed to re-enter the United States where he begins his exile. One thing people seem to overlook was his outspoken opinion about Hitler's Germany.

The film is a bit slow but when RDJ is on screen, you're pulled back into the world of Chaplin. RDJ is such a great actor; he has some kind of magic when on screen-in all his movies-RDJ gives depth to every character he plays; even if a flick lacks something, RDJ doesn’t.

    The Story of Charlie Chaplin

Attenborough's Chaplin offers a more politicalized perspective on this iconic star of American cinema. The film focuses on Chaplin's (played by Robert Downey Jr.# rise and fall in American film, culiminating in his exile from the United States after Hoover's relentless attempts to prove him a communist threat finally succeeded. Downey Jr. is really quite good as Chaplin, especially in the evolution of his English accent. #Although as the elderly Chaplin, he is a bit creepy). Anyone who is a tried and true fan of Chaplin, however, will find many details to criticize: his facial expressions aren't quite right, his physical movements don't quite capture the grace of Chaplin's. But, overall, it is a fine film, offering a fascinating glimpse of the personal and political life of perhaps the greatest film star of all time.

Why did Downey make a fool out of Charlie Chaplin

Can't believe they made Chaplin look like a fool by this poorly directed movie. The only good actor was Hopkins. Thats the only reason i liked this movie.
