I love gift cards for gaming consoles. I can put some credit on my account when I have some spare cash or some spare Best Buy Reward credits for future use when a game I want goes on sale. It works out because of course the games you want typically go on sale when you have less disposable income leaving you without that game you want. For kids, it is a great way to teach them money management by giving them a finite amount to spend for X amount of time and let them judge what each game is worth to them.

It’s nice to buy at the store and not have to hand over your credit card info in the eShop. Especially when buying for a family member. Bonus points for a peelable sticker rather than those silly scratch offs that could damage the code underneath. The graphic used on the card is fun too, I guess.

Gift cards are the way to go for sure! It's a great way to control your own or your kids spending. If you have some extra cash, throw it on a gift card, apply it to your gaming account, and save it for when a sale happens or when a game is released but you don't have the funds to spare then!
