Finally a Superior Album Released in 2008!!

This album from start to finish is a superior Guns N Roses Classic. Axl proves he can create a master piece and carry on the band name with integrity and the honor it deserves. There isn't a musician on this album that can't run circles around any memebers of the original line up. Take this factor and combine it with Axl's lyrical greatness and song writing ability and you have one of the greatest rock albums of all time. If you think you have already heard it guess again! Ron Thall offers up a sensory assualt that was definately missing in the demos leaked earlier this year. The overall sound of this record is absolutely EPIC! I don't listen to hype and neither should you! But it is very rare to find an album today that doesn't have it's share of fillers on it. And with 14 tracks there is no fat to be found on this album. There is nothing in the last ten years that can compare to greatness of Chinese Democracy. Thank you Axl!

    Guns N Roses

After waiting for over a decade and a half for the album, how can one not simply be ecstatic at it's release. As far as the quality of the album is concerned, I think it is quite amazing. Sure it does not fall into line with Appetite or the Use Your Illusions. Axl has always been forward thinking, real fans know that and can see how he has grown and changed. How different were the two Illusion albums from Appetite? Where would we be if music did not progress? You can argue all you want that it does not sound like GnR, but the facts still remain. You cannot deny the complexity and beauty of the composition. And, if GnR should be remembered for anything it should be for the bands ability to creat just that, beautiful complex music.

Christmas comes before Thanksgiving this year!

Well it looks like this is really happening! Yes, November 23rd will be an early Christmas for me. For everyone that's going to complain that its not the original band, and Axl sucks for making them wait 15 + years, please save your comments for the Ricky Lake show. For all the loyal Gunners out there like myself, we are in for a wonderful treat my friends. From the demos I have heard so far, my early favorites will be I.R.S, There was a Time, and Street of Dreams (previously The Blues). Not crazy about Rhiad and Catcher in the Rye but it's very possible that these tunes will grow on me over time. After all, I hated the Spaghetti Incident when it first came out, but if C.D. is at least on par with that effort I will lose my mind! I'm obviously partial here, but I really feel that once these singles hit the airwaves, rock music as we know it will be changed forever. Just like the late 80's when it all began. Long live GNR!

    Chinese f'n Democracy

Having heard the official track leaks, Shackler's Revenge, Chinese Democracy and now Better, this last week is going to be hard to make it through. All of these songs come at you from a different angle than you thought they would. Who would know what to expect from Axl after all this time, anyays. After repeated listens, the songs do nothing but continue to grow on me. Having refrained from listening to unofficial leaks, I am so excited to hear the rest and put the whole album on repeat once it's in my hands. No, it's not the classic lineup. Sorry to disappoint you, but it's not going to happen. Yes, Velvet Revolver probably sounds more like classic GNR than the new GNR will. It's hard to be objective about this album, from either side, but it will be the most important release for sometime. Talent and effort has been poured into it and, even if it is not your thing, one can't deny that fact. Congrats, Axl.

Ok lets get this out of the way. yes it took 14 years to make and it has no Slash,Duff,Izzy,Matt Sorum and even Steven Adler we all know that already, to all you people who are still hung up on what happened 10 or 11 years ago. Im glad to say the finished version of the songs are much different then the demos even though I liked the demos that were leaked. Axl is a genious and this new band is incredible. I cant stop listening to it. I, like everybody else dreaded the fact that this album was just a myth until I went down to Best Buy on Nov 23rd and had it in my hands. From the beginning of the title track till Pr***** this album has a lot of variety of metal.rock, blues and yes industruial. Its no appetite or Use you Illusions but its still an incredible album on its own. Songs I definetly recommend are Chines Democracy,Better,If the World, There was a time,Scraped,Sorry,Madagascar and my favorite is Pr******

Not GNR, but Axl sounds great

I bought this yesterday and have already listened to it several times. the more I hear it, the better I like it. Axl sounds great on most of the tracks. He uses several different guitarists, some of the rifs are good and some are bad. This is a grand production, using what seems like every instrument available on most songs. There aren't any sraight forward rock tunes with nothing but bass, guitar and drums. This sounds nothing like the original Guns n Roses, but is still an impressive collaboration of music. It is definitely worth $11.99.

    20 Year Fan...

I have been waiting for this since the release of THE SPAGHETTI INCIDENT - which I did like very much. Although I have heard a majority of the tunes from the album and seen 3 different versions of the new lineup in concert (2001-vegas, 2002-columbus, 2006-cleveland) I am still eagerly awaiting the album. Fans of the classic GNR that have not followed the concerts or internet leaks in the past 10 years will probably not be very happy but I still believe when it is all heard as one piece it will be an amazing accomplishment.

    Guns N' Roses Finally

I have heard about 7 of the songs already in good quality, not sure if the final mix or not, but they sounds good. Some of the best songs I've heard are Better which is awesome, T.W.A.T. which is great, IRS is great, Madagascar is great, Catcher in the Rye is great and The Blues is great, but not sure if that is on there under a different name. I heard that Axl has 4 albums worth of material so hopefully he will release them all. I do wish the original band was back together as I think it would be even better.

    Well Worth the Wait

Many have said that it's not "Guns N Roses" without the other, older members. I say that this is nonsense. This album proves that Axl was the driving force behind the music all along. To me, this CD is as good--or better--than the older ones. It is multi-layered, deep, and unique. The vocals, lyrics, and guitar work are second-to-none, and its replay value is amazingly high. With so much commercialized rock out there, this disc is a breath of fresh air. It was well worth the wait and completely legitimizes the "new" version of GnR. Kudos to Axl on his work.

It's been a loooong time coming, and I'm just as eager to own this CD now as I was then. Most of these tracks have been leaked and are awesome. Madagascar, Better, Catcher In the Rye, they are all GREAT! They are everything I've expected and more. I wonder where "The Blues" went, I think I read that "Street of Dreams" is that song, just renamed. I'll see about that. I am disappointed that this CD has a POP genre applied to it. It makes me wonder... Either way, I'm excited to add this CD to my collection.

Best album in a very long time

I've heard 90% of the songs on this album and didn't hear one that I don't like. All the people that are giving this record low ratings are stuck in the past and want to hear Appetitie for Destruction pt 2. It's not 1987 so that's not going to happen!!! It is 2008 and this record is awsome, listen to it with an open mind and you'll love it. Who cares about the band name or how long it has taken to put out. This record is Axl's vision, he owns the rights to the band name, so can do whatever he wants with it. The record is out, it doesn't sound like anything else out, and that is a very good thing. This record will bring rock n' roll back to where it should be.

    Axl Rose is a Genius

Axl Rose is a genius and anyone who takes the time to write a negative review even before the CD comes out shows that you are not a true fan and never will be. If one is a music lover then one appreciates all music. Good music is good music! Be appreciative that you are alive to witness one of the most brilliant minds and band in history. And if you cannot appreciate this then the following quotes will explain why: (and P.S. Rock on Axl! GNR!!! We LOVE YOU, The REAL FANS!!!) "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence." -- Albert Einstein "Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius." -- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

As most of the people writing early reviews I will throw my two cents in. Have eagerly anticipated this album for close to a decade now and during that time have heard half to 3 quarters of these songs both through file sharing and in concert a couple of years ago. The awesome, Axl for all his quirks is truly a great writer of music and shows he has not lost his touch with the songs. I started playing guitar and music in general because of this band so it does hurt that Slash is not in the band, I can live without everyone else. Can't help but think in a lot of the songs I wonder what slash would have played that solo like, but all in all GNR still has it even with the new pieces. Axl - My hat is off to you as you truly showed you have not lost your way. Madagascar might be the best GNR song I have ever heard! Sweet!

A Classic Guns N' Roses Release

I think it was a great CD Axl, and band put together! However, it doesn't quite live up to the line that the original lineup set, with the exeptions of Chinese Democracy, Street of Dreams, Sorry, Scraped, and Better. This is however, a serious classic dudes! I've personally kept up with this album, all its leaks and watched its progress, and I knew exacty what I was buying when I bought the CD, and a VINYL copy along with it. This is a heck of an album. Its had much time to be made and has been very carefully watched, and put together. Think about it, its GUNS N' ROSES! Axl could get any instrumentalist he wants, just about... IF I were him maye I would've personally got people that had never been famous... Anyway. IT is a classic. I love the CD, 5 stars, and all hail Guns N' Roses!

One of the best albums I have heard in years! I've waited so long for this album to come out, that I thought I'd be dead before it ever hit the stores. The wait was worth every minute. The entire album has a depth and feel to it that incorporates the sound that we've all come to love with a new current, contemporary edgy feel. Buckethead's guitar sounds are fantastic, Axl is in full vocal form, and the lyrics are great. You will love the beautiful and melodic track "This I Love." It's easy to tell that these songs were all ever so carefully arranged and masterfully written. I am very impressed. This album is iPod worthy!

    WORTH THE WAIT!

As a longtime die hard GNR fan I'll say this.........AWESOME........ I've waited half my life for this and I've feared for years that this day would never come. But Axl Rose has done it. If The World and Sorry are amazing. I think Sorry is a well done and mature jab at the old band and the critics. Amazingly well written album! Axl at his finest. I have a feeling that GNR is here to stay and blow us all away as they did once before. A lot of people think that "Axl's the only one left" but true fans that take the time to look into this album will see a lot of familiar names (Paul Tobias, Dizzy Reed and Del James just to name a few). Watch out people Axl's about to take the world by storm once again. Now all we need is a group therapy session to bring Slash and Duff back in.

    Where is "The Blues"???

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Several people have commented that The Blues is one of the strongest of the new tunes, but I don't see it on the tracklisting. Am I missing something? I have streamed several of the songs online over the past few years and have to say that The Blues has been one of my favorites. I am still looking forward to buying this CD and believe that the songs included will be classics. I'm just a little disappointed that The Blues does not appear to be included in the group.

People can criticize this album all they want, but when its all said and done this album will go down as one of the greatest albums ever. Its like the original Guns N" Roses lineup but on steriods!!! For people that are real musicians will appericate this album for its incredible variety, and almost covering everystyle of music. Then you come to the A list Shreders on this album, Buckethead ( Greatest Guitar player ever) (and if you think otherwise you are obivioulsy living under a rock and no nothing of this musician) then theres bumblefoot, and robin fink, Axl has assembled one of the best lineups to get the vision he had in his head out. So quit hating on this album because you know the original lineup wishes they were apart of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Great album

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

People love to hate this album because none of the original members of Guns (besides Axl of course) are left. They also choose to make fun of it because of how long Axl has been working on this CD & how many band members have come and gone. Truth is, all biases aside, the music is amazing. Every track is good, and most of them are amazing. Better, Sorry, If the World, There Was a Time, and Madagascar are up there with GNRs best. I'm a huge original GNR fan & I like Velvet Revolver a lot too. Don't buy it expecting Appetite for Destruction pt. II or anything resembling original GNR (except Axl's voice), but buy it expecting something totally new and great. It won't let you down, I cannot wait to see if there are anymore albums to come.

    THANK JESUS FOR AXEL ROSE

First just let me say that I'm 30 something yrs old and I have never bought a audio CD for myself. Oh I've bought them for other people, just not for myself. I usually just buy one or more tracks at a time because I never like the whole album. BUT THIS IS GUNS N F**KING ROSES! So this makes my first CD album. Now I know what you thinking it's not GNR it's just Axel. But this proves that Axel doesn't need slash, duff, matt, or izzy to help him. When I listen to the music all I hear is that voice. Now don't get me wrong I think slash, duff, matt, and izzy are great musicians. But, even great musicians can be replaced. BUT NEVER THE VOICE!!! This album is one of the best I've heard in a while. I look forward to more and more and more.
