Best Purchase In 14 years

Like most of us I've heard most of the songs (10 of 14) so it is valid to post a review now. Having heard it before it's released does not mean we're not going to buy it. We've waited so long and now we get our album. Everyone should buy this album, its lyrics are beautiful and by the way fit perfectly to Axl's voice. The music is innovating, there is no slash (buy velvet revolver if you want to hear slash) but there's other great musicians that trust me, along with Axl, truly deserve to be called Guns N' Roses.
What I've heard is beautiful, sentimental, deep to the heart and to some it will be tear shedding.
My top five: There Was A Time, Prost., If The World, Better and Catcher In The Rye.
Dying to hear: Sorry and This I Love!

I am a 70 year old huge fan and waited patiently for this CD while playing the old ones still. I love Axl and still have a poster of him in his red, white & blue little shorts and gorgeous red hair - though I do not like the braids. Back to the CD, as everyone else at first I was expecting to go back in time for the sounds of November Rain, Paradise City etc. but after listening to it twice I found that I loved the new sounds especially This I love , Prost. and Better. Welcome back guys.

Axl Rose is God!

Slash is my guitar hero of all time. Unexpectedly Buckethead is just as great as he is, or even better. Try one of Buckethead's albums, you will fall in love with and finally get addicted to his underestimated talent. Buckethead can play any style as well as guitar god Jeff Beck. "Chinese Democracy" is definitely the best rock album since 1991. It got what the other great rock bands like Metallica, AC/DC, etc. are always missing: beautiful melodies. In fact, Axl's new album is way way better than any Slash or Duff's solo projects. If your religion is rock music, then Axl Rose is your God and his albums is your Bible. Buy more copies of this masterpiece for your family and friends to do them a favor!

Epic. Addictive. Axel has arrived....again

This record is very big. Big in every way, production, expectations and content. Axel's vision so far exceeds what the old GnR were probably capable of 20 years ago. Does a movie director use the same cast for every movie, no. If so after a couple of movies we would all stop watching. Axel has done what only a very few are able to do. He has transcended GnR. by making the name of a band just that, a name. Regardless of your musical preferences there is something here for you to love. Chinese Democracy isn't a $13 million dollar record it's a priceless record.

Axl's Back !!!

The band that owned the late 80's returns with a CD that took 17 years to make. Vocalist Axl Rose is the only remaining member, from the multi-platinum selling band. His voice made Guns N' Roses, and it's what makes this CD strong. Songs like There Was a Time", "Madagascar" and the title track "Chinese Democracy" Make this the most exciting release since....well 1987's Appetite for Destruction

Am epic vocal performance

I've listened to Chinese Democracy 4 times in the last 24 hours. There is no doubt that this recording introduces an epic vocal performance from Axl Rose. The range and intensity of his vocals are the most compelling I've heard since Chris Cornell in the 1st Audioslave offering. What is missing is the singular guitar riffs from Slash. Buckethead does some good work here, but the truth is that without the presence of brilliant guitar play, this album is about the vocals. All in all it is an excellent piece of work.

Appetite Part 2

"Democracy" is Appetite for Destruction part 2. Even though it's complex in lyrical content like the Illusions, the song quality rivals their debut release. While Lies was too short and the Illusions too long, "Chinese" is just right. And it delivers, as long as you're open to a new different approach to rock and roll. While the Illusions delivered some quality ballads and rockers, the intensity of the albums was soft. "Chinese" sees GN'R back angry, when they're at their best. Was it worth 17 years? No record is, outside of GN'R's debut and Led Zep iV. But "Chinese" prooves one thing- Axl was and always will be Guns N' Roses.

I just got done listening to it for a second time, and I have to agree with what one person has said, you have to listen to it several times. I have to admit the first time I really didn't like it. But after the second time it started to grow on me. Maybe I was expecting more, but I have to say it is a good album. It's not like their first one but it is pretty good.

I'll be honest on this one, unbiased.

So I'll just be realistic with this review, the CD isn't flat out horrible. It's been so long, and honestly did anyone even figure it would finally come out? I know I did not.
Sweet and simple, it's not a great album. It does not live up to the hype of being prolonged what, 17 years? Most of the songs on it had leaked through the internet over time as it is. There is no consistency in the song list, the sound varies from track to track. There are some songs that are pretty catchy though and even remind you of old Guns, and then there are others that just leave you thinking "...what the heck is this?" All in all it is a unique sound. You may like it, or you may hate it.
Overall, it's here. Congrats Axel Rose, you successfully compiled a list of random songs you had been hoarding and "perfecting" for years and years and put them on a CD. If you are like me, and you liked Guns N' Roses in general you may consider getting the album just for the fact that it is here. If not, you really aren't missing too much.

Saw G'N'R perform this in Germany at Rock AM Ring

You know you all love to hate Axl, but truth be told, you'll jam to G'N'R in your car, at the bar, in your iPod or at work, so why not just buy the album that has taken years to make? Yes, he's a "not nice" person, but the music is all we really care about. When I saw them 2 years ago and they performed "Madagascar," it was evident that G'N'R's spirit lives on and lyrically and musically, it's still as good as it ever was. Yes, Slash and the boys aren't there, but music history is loaded with frontmen who become separated from their guitarists and yet they survive. Give it a try, it won't hurt.

Everybody says this isn't "Guns N' Roses"...they're wrong!
IT IS GUNS N' ROSES!
The sound of it's not much more different than the "Use Your Illusion Saga"..
with the excepton of the industrial type buzz and Axl's lyrics have grown-up alot.
I love this record JUST AS MUCH as the old CD's in spite of Slash, Duff & co. being missing and I think Axl did a find job in finding the 2nd greatest band in the world! ofcourse he can't replace the orig GNR...
they were a dream band come true but he did do well on this record without them!
Don't believe the "it's not GNR" nonesense because it is...

Ive been a huge gnr fan from day one , Im an artist and a musician as well and to say Chinese Democracy doesnt stand up to the GnR name is insane . Once again Axle Rose has created a great sounding album to add to guns n roses list of greats . From the first track to the last I personally would have to say its my favorite second GnR album since appetite . But they are all great in my book so thanks Guns & Roses cant wait for the tour !!!!!!!!!!!!!

This album took a minute to really make me change my original speculation. I listened and then listened again, but in the end (when I started to know the words) I could feel it! I have always loved appitite, and I grew to to love the changes G-N-R has gone through. They still are different from all the new C**P out there, then and now! This album rocks! The way he did it without Slash I will never know, but he did. The only thing that would be better is if Slash was involved because I listened to Velvet Revolver and it was not even my style. Keep Rockin!

I have all the GNR cd's like most people. Axl put together some great tracks. People may start to compare this to the old GNR but the fact is that Slash and the other guys quick so who cares about them. As a matter of fact, this cd proves Axl was the real talent in the band. The voice man! Great! I bought my copy for $9.99 so it was even better. Hopefully GNR puts out more music! "This I Love" was awesome, not like "November Rain" but close!

Axl Rose is back and you will not be disappointed. This CD has many great tracks. He sounds alot like he did back in 90's, he can definatley sing. If you are a GNR fan you will really enjoy this long awaited CD. It is definately worth the purchase. Lets just hope they put out some more CDs and start touring again!

If you can FORGET the old GNR's and just focus on the songs and the music, its a tight album. Its better than anything Ive heard in years, but with the exception of There Was A Time, it wont remind you of the old GNR. I highly recommend it from everything Ive heard so far. And yes, I will be out there 11/23 to buy my copy also.

Please don't be sucked into the politics behind this album.
After seeing the band live and hearing some of the demos of songs that will appear on the album, it's apparent that THIS IS GUNS N' ROSES.
It's unfortunate that Slash and Izzy are gone but the new players are very, very good!
The sound is different, but still great. I highly recommend this album! It's a bummer that there's not any extra tracks or differences. But whatever bring on CD and I can't wait for the next album!
Hopefully it'll be in 2009 or 2010 or sometime soon!

True Genius

This album isnt about the new GNR vs old GNR.
Its about the music, and the music should
speak for itself.
We have yet to hear 3-4 tracks, one of which
is Sebastian Bachs favorite: "Sorry". Another which
Axl said was the heaviest song he ever wrote:
"This I Love".
Either way Im looking forward to hearing
the final mixed versions, to which GNR
add some stellar songs to there immense
catalogue:
Better, There Was a Time, Street of Dreams,
IRS, and Madagascar are right on par
with the best GNR songs to ever hit the
airwaves.
Excellent!

Worth The Wait!

After waiting so long for this album, the wait is now over. To be honest I didn't know what to expect from this album. However, since being able to listen to the whole thing I can personally say, in my humble opinion, it was worth the wait. The guitar work is mean, the vocals are sharp, and the lyrics are haunting. Axl poured his heart into every song and that really is noticed. Songs like Street of Dreams and This I Love are perfect examples of that. Axl makes a statement with this album and that statement is "I'm back!"

This record rocks!! this will go platinum in no time for sure iv'e listened to 10 tracks and loved them all my fav's (better,i.r,s,street of dreams, pprostitute) sure it doesnt sound much like the gn'r from the 80s/90s but this is 2008 and its time for somthing new but axl does need to get rid of the braids not a good look for him hahaha.Theres only one problem i have with this record and thats no slash and the original members of gn'r but im sure one day some how, some way they will reunite and once again rock the world.
