Axl took endless crap for the amount of time it took to release this—and you'd be hard-pressed to find any criticism of this album that doesn't include its lengthy production time—but it's also irrelevant. This represents more than a sophisticated evolutionary step forward for GNR, I'd call it their second-best album after Appetite for Destruction and one of the best rock albums of the 2000s. Forget the backstory, just listen. The greatest thing about this album: Every time you do, you'll hear something new.
