A funny warm Christmas film, enjoyed it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Christmas Cupcakes is about two sisters who’ve lost their dad and wanna save his bakery. They need to make big bucks before Christmas and they argue over stupid crap a lot. Cindy Busby plays the annoying sister with the baking gift. Erin Karpluk is so good. She’s the sister I rooted for. Busby has a lack luster love interest. They got an uncle with a questionable Italian accent, a daughter, a mom, and a weird bread lady helping them out. This is a comedy and it’s a little silly. The way I felt about this movie changed a hundred percent once the sisters enter a baking competition. This movie is gold whenever they are showing the competition. The way they lampoon these reality cooking competition shows was absolutely gold. The over zealous host, the nonsensical judges, the awkward confessionals, the serious voice overs, the jealous stuck up chef competing against our girls, the shots of food, the camera angles, the way they are running around getting ingredients, and the whole tasting/elimination process was spot on. I’d watch a whole spoof movie about food shows. Those judges were insane, the stuff that was coming out of their mouths. Props to the actors for keeping it together. Christmas Cupcakes is like two movies in one. One half is family shenanigans, and the other half is a Top Chef spoof. I fully admit to having fun watching this. It’s a slow start but when it gets there it gets there.
