Bought this as a replacement for my dvd because I love this movie. Chilling drama (and part biography) of life as it was in the drug and gun riddled favelas of Rio De Janero. (I say "was" because supposedly the goverment has cleaned up many of these areas in preparation for the upcoming Olympics). I like stories that give you a glimpse of life outside of our culture, and this film does all that. Quite, perhap over-the-top, violent and I suppose controversial, it also is a story of rising above circumstances. The extra feature documentary included is quite good, and will simply have you shaking your head.

"City of God" isn't only a brilliant film just b/c of how well it was created, but more b/c it delivers an important message to the world. What makes the film so breathtaking is its' passion for the people... the color, the music, the passion.

City of God is one of the most critically-acclaimed films of the last decade. This gripping, emotional drama is one of the finest works of film. Cuaron does an excellent job directing and sets himself apart in the industry. It also paved the way to the rest of his success as a director. I recommend this movie to anyone who loves great films with a moving plot and realistic characters and drama.

This movie I got to see for the first time was in school and I have to say I loved it. From the start to end. And shows Brazil streets. The way the film was put together. You feel your walking the streets of Brazil and again this is a great movie to have

This is a great movie, a must watch if you haven't done so You will be taking a trip to Rio de Janeiro without taking a flight. This movie needs ten stars from the rolling stone, Chicago Sun Times, and the New York Post.

This movie is seriously amazing and one of the best you will ever see in your life. The Blu-Ray is a little light on extras but the documentary included is definitely worth a look. BUY THIS MOVIE!

City of God delivers a bruising, visceral experience of the vicious spiral of violence that draws kids into a life of crime, brutality and murder as the only avenue open to them

When I saw this Brazilian movie for the first time I was in a state of awe. When it got numerous Oscar Nominations I was elated. This is a really extraordinary film.

This is a hardcore Brazilian gangster movie. Its beautiful to look at, but the content is brutal. Its real. These things are everyday happenings to the poor in Brazil.

City of God is an amazing film from South America, sort of a Goodfellas set in a different country. The rise of a criminal and the dangers of living a life of crime.

A must own and watch. This film is extremely powerful and at times difficult to watch. Adults only. Story and character driven.

Meirelles and his cinematographer César Charlone cast the favela in an impossibly golden hue a lot of the time and that creates a dusty saffron ambience that is distinctly at odds with the gritty lives the characters are leading.

Gritty story with outstanding performances. Alice Braga is stunning so early in her career.

I underestimated this film and it ended up being very good. This rerelease comes with an Ultraviolet Digital Copy.
