A bit too high at times like when the planes land crashes, high frequencies distorted and was ear piercing in that scene and didn’t have it cranked up which was a downside. Coming on the upswing of Stallone’s career, Cliffhanger is a well-paced action classic from the best part of the 90’s. Being shot on 35mm film, Cliffhanger is a true 4K transfer that really benefits from the upgrade. With both the picture and sound greatly improved, this is definitely the definitive way to watch this film. Not having watched this movie for several years, rewatching it on 4K reminded me how much fun the film is. The biggest benefit are the special features. Loaded with two commentaries (one by Stallone and director Renny Harlin and the other commentary by the Technical Crew. It also comes with a personal introduction by Renny Harlin, deleted scenes, the “Stallone On The Edge: The Making Of Cliffhanger” making of featurette, a special effects featurette, and more. The biggest bonus is that it also comes with a digital copy of the film. If you’re a fan of action movies or, more specifically, good Stallone movies from the 90’s, Cliffhanger is a must-own 4K title that is well worth the price!

I'm surprised a 90s classic like Cliffhanger has made it's way to 4K Blu-ray. Sony has done a excellent job, providing an excellent transfer to the format, very much identical to the theatrical presentation of the film. This is exactly what fans want: video and audio quality as close to the source format as possible. The audio is great for a film of this age. Packaging also includes a digital code for streaming on the go, along with a Blu-ray - which seems to be the same Blu-ray released a few years ago, but no worries, it still holds up today just fine. Worth adding to your movie collection, especially if you have a 4K TV and maybe even a surround sound system.

Sylvester Stallone returns in this action packed adventure. After a horrific climbing accident, Stallone returns home(Colorado), to his estranged girlfriend and former best friend. All three are rescue climbers. When a mid air robbery goes very wrong and a call for help comes in, Stallone and crew are forced back into action. When they realize it’s a phony call, high flying action and adventure takes place atop the mountain. This 4K release is an upgrade to the HD blu ray, offering solid video and robust audio.. This is a robust 4K blu ray and definitely a must buy. CRANK IT UP!!

Cliffhanger is one of my favorite action flicks. It was an eye-popping wild ride at the time I saw this back 1993 and it still is today. Cliffhanger keeps getting better with every new format its been released in and this new 4K blu ray takes it up another notch. This 4K transfer is the finest I have ever seen it in. The details in the mountainscapes, snow, and faces are astounding. Oh! and the sound, folks, careful when turning up the volume. The bass on this transfer will task your subwoofer. My oh my!.

Back in the day of VHS tapes, image quality was dismal at best. The development of DVD brought resolution to modern, borderline futuristic, standards. After years of upgrading my library, out comes Blu Ray high definition to absolutely knockout anything out there and scratching my head what was I thinking, not realizing that something better was inevitable. At this point, what could get better than 1080P with its lifelike realism.....the answer is this: 4K ultra HD!

I would have to say that this Stallone movie would be considered a Classic Action Film from the 90s. If you enjoy rock climbing and mountain scenes then this movie is it for you. Everything is provided in this plot ... a mountain rescuer versus a band of thieves. Stallone plays "Gabe Walker" and is up against a very Bad Man "Eric Qualen" played excellently by John Lithgow. Quality wise, this is an excellent 4K Transfer with great scenes; a must to add to your 4K Collection!

I have been a fan of this movie since it released over 20 years ago. I did not own it on disk so I decided to buy the 4K version. While it may not blow you away with the picture quality, the Atmos effects are definitely there and this will give your subwoofer(s) a good workout in several scenes. Explosions, plane crash and avalanche scenes had the couch rumbling. On the picture side, there is some light film grain but that's to be expected. There are some crisp scenes and the HDR is decent. Just wish they could have upgraded to Dolby Vision.

I put Cliffhanger right up there with the original Point Break movie as one of the most quintessential 90's action flicks.. They did a complete restoration of the film for the 4K upgrade.. Picture upgrade is beyond what you would expect from a film that is over 25 years old.. Hopefully they do the same thing with Point Break VERY SOON!!!

It's been some time since watching Cliffhanger, which was released in 1993. I remember enjoying the movie back then but when I saw the movie was being released in 4K with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack it perked my interest again. And it did not disappoint! The clarity and colors were terrific but the Dolby ATMOS soundtrack was similar to watching a brand new movie! Highly entertaining and well worth the purchase!

Say what you will about the company itself, but Sony's back catalogue remastering and restoration folks know how to do it. Cliffhanger has never looked anywhere near this good, and the new Dolby Atmos soundtrack will light up your system big time if you're hooked up with atmospheric Atmos audio. Also, just a sidebar, I like that they're using original poster art for most of their 4K releases.

Really cool to get a 4k release of this somewhat ridiculous but fun to watch classic Sly flick! Picture quality is much better than the DVD (I don't know that there was a blu-ray release). Most of the visuals look really good and there are really cool mountain climbing shots that look pretty astounding in 4k. I would recommend if you're a fan of the film, but the price point is a little high.

I wasn’t expecting too much with the 4K version of this movie, maybe a little bit better in the sound or something like that. Overall it’s definitely an improvement, the scenery looks great and the HDR really makes the mountains look nice. Definitely worth the pick up

I feel this movie gets buried under the Rocky's and Rambo's and Demolition Man of Stallone's career. This is actually one of my favorite movies of the 90's!. Great action and you have a Stallone at peak form. This is Die Hard on the Himalayas!

What it matters the most in all movies, is how the movie attract us, what the movie is about, how the keep us with the intensity, and the unknown of what's going to happen later, CLIFFHANGER, will take you there, action, aventure,love,sadness, terrify, and suspen, GREAT ACTION MOVIE, with everything else I said.

This movie is a guilty pleasure. If you've seen it, you know what you're getting into. From a technical standpoint, the sound is amazing. They've done a really good job updating a decades old soundtrack in to an Atmos one. The picture, however, is as good as it probably can look considering the movie's age.

I had never seen this movie before and hesitated buying it until I had read another review about how great the picture quality was. I 100% agree! The 4k experience makes this movie worth buying! By the way, I enjoyed the movie too!

I remember watching this movie when it first released on home video in 93. John Lithgow and Leon were awesome villains. One of the reasons I love the 4K format is that it enables me to watch movies I loved as a kid like I've never seen them before. Speaking of the $K; it is the highlight of this disc.

The 4K re-mastering jobs on movies this old are not easily done. Cliffhanger was cleaned up quite nicely while still maintaining a bit of the graininess. Views in this movie are quite breath-taking.

Not only one of the best action films of the 90's, it's one of Stallone's best. The cinematography alone is fantastic and this 4K disc showcases it brilliantly. Great set pieces, ruthless villains, and a plot, while silly, rarely stops for a rest.
