I watched this movie many times when it first came out in theaters. Then they updated it to include extra stuff at the end, but they took out some of the best parts from the middle! Now, finally, here is a set that gives me back the original--I would MUCH rather have the funny middle scenes than see what's inside the spaceship in the updated version. This set is worth the price for the theatrical version alone, and in HD!

All through the short history of cinema, films had been made about extra terrestrial and life on other planets, but the aliens were almost always a menace to mankind. Even a film like The Day The Earth Stood Still had aliens threatening earth, although with a very good reason. In 1977, Close Encounters of the Third Kind became the first film to view intelligent alien life as something not only benign, but also wondrous.

It was fun to relive this oldy but a goody on blu-ray. Steven Spielberg is an amazing story teller and the story still holds up. Although special effects have really advanced in modern times, the emotion the visuals in this movie evoke are still very powerful. Good story telling is still the key.

Not much to say about this film-- it's a sci fi classic from the master himself. To sum up, it's the story of a man who's obsession carries him away... quite literally. Big thumbs up, one of Spielberg's best. Wonderful picture quality, too. This 4K restoration is absolutely brilliant... 35mm has never looked this good.

Close Encounters is easily one of the best sci-fi movies ever made... still is a great watch 40 years later. I was able to make it out to see this in a theater last fall when it had a short run in theaters, so nice to see it up on a big screen again. If you've never seen this movie, what are you waiting for? Buy it! If you have seen in but don't have it... Buy it! A MUST have for any fan of the genre!!

Speiberg's "Close Encounters..." is one of his best. The tension builds throughout the movie and ends with a CGI masterpiece (for the time) that a wonder of color and sound. Richard Dreyfuss and Melinda Dillon star as disparate individuals, but driven to find the answer behind Devil's Tower. Released in 1977, "CE" may be showing it's age a little, but it's still an example of timeless film making and a visual treat.

I haven't watched this movie in 20 years, but I've always loved it. So when It came out in 4K, there was no question. And of course, very happy. Besides being great to see it again, the 4K HDR was amazing. The entire sequence at Devils Rock, WY was excellent. All the colors of the alien ships early on and at the Meet-n-Greet were beautiful. The colors in the sky, in the clouds were mesmerizing.

Steven Spielburg's 1977 classic has finally been upgraded to 4K and that couldn't be better. We can finally see mashed potatoes, sunburnt Richard Dreyfuss and not see the Aliens in full glorious UHD 4K. This Steelbook however leaves a lot to be desired. The cover art looks great, but the back is simply a zoom of the front image and the interior art is simply grey. It feels bit rushed and wish that it could've been given some more details. That being said, if you're a Steelbook fanatic this is definitely worth picking up. If you're just looking for an Encounter of the Third Kind on 4K, you could probably stick with the standard 4K release or the box set.

For such a movie and its age I didn't think a 4K transfer would have much to offer from the Blu-ray but I was pleasantly surprised that the sound and visuals were considerably improved and the transfer included 3 iterations of the movie (Original | Directors | Special Edition). If you're a fan of this Spielberg classic and looking to upgrade your copy. This is a worthwhile purchase.

Got this movie to watch with my dad as its one of his favorites and thought he'd enjoy it in 4k. Sadly he passed away before we got a chance to watch it. Its impressive that movies this old can look this good. If you like sci fi, give it a try!

This is a movie that, if I'm being honest, didn't quite live up to the expectations others gave me. However, it's hard to live up to "perfect, unquestioned classic." That's means it's still great, and the visuals of this transfer are breathtaking. Add in the amount of interesting special features, and you've got yourself a purchase that you won't regret.

Having watched this movie in the theater when it came out 40 years ago and having only owned a VHS copy since then I was absolutely blown away by the clarity of the 4K disc. How many films today will have the impact that this one had on the special effects industry in the next 40 years? Also this was my first Steelbook purchase and am very impressed by the packaging.

This packaging is only half the story. It's the movie that people will be raving about, but the package is jaw-dropping as well. Let's just say once you push the button and you hear the tones, you'll be right there watching the movie again just like when it was first released.

This BluRay version of Close Encounters includes the theatrical release, the director's cut, and the special edition, along with an option to display flags to indicate where scenes are added or deleted in the version you select. So far I've only watched the special edition; it made a lot more sense to me this time than it did when I first saw it in a theater.

This movie now on Blu-ray, looks absolutely AMAZING!! Great Movie from start to finish, great storyline and a great group of actors!! What more could you ask for?!? If you’ve never seen this movie and you’re into extraterrestrials and the thought of life outside of earth...you NEED to see this movie!!!

I remember seeing this in the theater and it is still one of my favorite Spielberg movies. Epic, weird, and sprawling and tense without tons of violence or sappy. A movie like this just wouldn’t get made these days. The 4K just brings back how great it looks and sounds.

Not much to say about this one other than it has become such a classic that it has been parodied and referenced many times over through the decades and it doesn't date itself too badly that it wouldn't be relevant today. Don't miss this one.

The classic (and second-best) motion picture about alien contact. Another Spielberg film, "E.T.", is the best. "Alien" and "Aliens," "Invasion of the Body Snatchers (first two versions), "Contact," "War of the Worlds" (both versions), "Annihilation," and "Arrival" (among others) are also good.

The remastered 4K 40th Anniversary is the best edition I’ve ever seen, and I own all editions, as CEOTTK is one of my favorite movies of all time. They really put a lot of work in remastering this movie! Not only with the video, but with the audio as well! It’s like seeing it for the first time all over again. I highly recommend this to everyone!

Just watched this a few days ago and it never looked or sounded better. It was great to revisit this classic movie and the ending was so satisfying. Highly recommended
