I had a $5 discount coupon about to expire, so thought some new music would be a good thing to spend it on. Since Best Buy no longer sells CDs (how ironic is that), I went browsing through their vinyl jazz collection. What a horrible customer-unfriendly website that is!!!
But I digress. I love vibraphonists such as Lionel Hampton, so picked this 1966 Bobby Hutcherson LP. Side 1 totally met expectations, and I love every tune. Side 2, unfortunately, is a different matter altogether. Hutcherson and/or his producers gave that to compositions by his drummer, Joe Chambers. While I can enjoy the occasional avante garde piece, the entire side is, in my opinion, a cacophonous mess. Get your "Tranquility" on Side 1, because Side 2 will leave you anything but.
