Customers are impressed with Concrete Genie's lighthearted and stress-free gameplay, engaging story, and beautiful art style. Many also enjoyed the VR mode and found the game to be a good value for its price. While some users found the controls took time to master, the positive feedback on other aspects of the game outweighs this concern. Overall, Concrete Genie is praised as a fun and entertaining experience.

Concrete Genie for the PS4 is the sleeper hit of 2019. The game is very unique and very engaging. The premise of the game is to make art and help revive a dying city through art. Game takes elements from movies like Kubo and the Two Strings and Coraline. The cinematic is very similar to Laika Studios. Game takes elements of Flower, Okami, and Marc Eckō's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. Downside is the controls takes some time to get use to. Overall, it is a great and endearing game on the PS4.

loved this game, it's art style and graphics are really something different and frequently stunning to experience. The Story of the game is told with a well voiced script inside and out of its partly stop animation blended cut scenes.
The control method of using the motion sensor in the joypad to paint is optional and i found using the right stick option easier. The game has great movement control and adding verticality to the game really made for some great views and options, the ability to escape across roof tops and using telegraph wires as zip lines was not expected and really well done.
The game is essentially split into two halves, the first being painting and exploration and the second being more action based with extra movement abilities granted on top of what ash can already do. PAINT SKATING! YES!

This game is visually gorgeous! It takes a little getting used to the motion controls to use the brush in the game, but once you start it's easy! Basically this is a story that unfolds with each action that you do. On the VR it must look amazing and immersive, but the game is absolutely playable without the VR.

Beautiful, charming, and fun, made me cry at a scene.
Tip: Paint required walls until you finish game, painting the whole town slows down the loading screen throughout chapters. Learned by experience lol
Super enjoyed painting the town. The Genies were creepy to me at first, but then I became attached. I love them so much and find them soo cute!
The motion sensor was difficult to adjust to for a while, but then it became easy to control. I loved teasing the bullies, the animation, and the storyline. The art style grew on me :)
It's definitely a patient game until half-way, you just have to paint your way till you get to the fighting phase of the game, I was scared because I didn't think I would fight in the game for some reason, but the abilities are cool! I love them.
I have finished the game and 10/10 recommend.

The day I bought it I couldn’t put it down. The graphics are stunning and the story is captivating. Highly recommend. Takes a little bit to get used to the controls and doesn’t always give you the best hints but still a wonderful game.

I went on a limb and bought this game just by reading the reviews. Not knowing what to expect the game is more for people whom are artistic as you paint your way around town and watching your paints come to life with amazing visuals. It feels slow going at first but as you get more stencils to sketch with, its pretty fun. Makes me want to buy a VR to fully immerse. Its more for laid back players, relaxing, not having an agenda in the gaming world. Check a few vids if you have any doubts.

Concrete Genie is a touching gaming experience of a young boy who is bullied and finds solitude in his artistic creativity. As the player, you help him deal with his emotions by bringing his art to life through a magical paint brush. Using graffiti-style magic creature drawings on most walls throughout this interesting town to help him with different obstacles, like platforming or reaching previously inaccessible areas. The addition to combat late in the game occurs naturally with the games narrative. The story is interesting, but a bit predictable. Very fun overall though!

Great Game very fun. If I had VR it must be Awesome. So im giving it a 5 out of 5 because haven't played the VR mode. The game is very fun my wife loves playing it. Plus its on sale right now so it was worth ten bucks. If I paid 30 or more I would give it a lower score. Must buy for 10. Buy it now. Somebody tell me how awesome this game is playing Playstation VR. I bet its worth buying a VR. Graphics are incredible. Gamplay on point. Good story. Must buy must play trust me. Plus its a indie game.

My favorite indie-style game of the year. Concrete Genie is the story about a boy named Ash who is bullied by others that ridicule his love of creating art. Eventually he is able to paint genies, colorful and personable creatures that help him solve puzzles and deal with the bullies. I was surprised at how much fun this game is and I loved the art style and theme. It is short (about 6 hours) but is worth the price I paid at $20. Definitely recommend this game if you love creative games that employ art and relatable themes.

I really liked the story of this game, which has a message about having empathy for others. It's nice to have a game where the goal is not to kill everything. I didn't play in VR. I was worried, at first, because it defaults to motion controls. However, the game does allow for that to be switched to the control sticks.

Such an entertaining game. I recommend you change from the controller motion setting to using the joysticks to paint. Much more control and precision that way. The story is nice and the overall feel of the game is mysterious and intriguing to little ones. My 8 year old loves it. For the money you can't go wrong. Cool little family friendly game.

Concrete Genie is a wonderful adventure game with very artistic stylings that suit the story well. The story overall is one of the best in 2019–which I finished in about 10 hours. Sadly one part that was a disappointment was the VR support. It’s only for bonus modes and not the main story. Otherwise it’s a total gem of a game!

Great family game! I have two boys (8&6) and it’s great to find games that we can play together as a family. The story is good, the game play is simple, moves progress throughout, and it kept us all engaged throughout. Every game doesn’t have to be about guns and blood to be good.

This is a beautiful and touching game about a boy who turns to art in the midst of bullying (not a spoiler -- this was shown in trailers and is revealed within the first few minutes of the game). The controls take a little getting used to and are a bit complex for my liking, but that's easy to get over when you can create such beautiful art in this game. I can't wait to paint more of the city!

What a surprise hit for me. I bought it on a whim because it was on sale and my friend suggested it. The first thing I want to mention is how amazing the art direction on this game is. If you like the Laika films (Kubo and the Two Strings or Coraline), the style is very reminiscent of those films. It looks great and the game feels great to play. My one complaint is how the third act suddenly shifts the gameplay and narrative. It works out overall, but it doesn't seem to fit with how the game had been progressing.
The story is excellent and deals with a lot of mature topics. Having been bullied in my youth, the experiences of the characters in the game hit home with me.
It is a pretty short game (about 8 hours to platinum), but you can spend a lot of time doodling and making your genies. Highly recommended.

this is a great game for families or parents to play with kids, or even adults that appreciate whimsical art styles. It's a brief experience but it's paced well and the story is well worth the play through. A beautiful game about friendship and self confidence

It’s Uncharted meets Epic Mickey. The art style of the game is very unique and the gameplay is very easy to pick up and just paint away. Artwork is very pleasing, and the style is reminiscent of stop motion style from Laika films. A must pick up for artists

This game is a great addition to the VR collection and the ability to play without VR is a plus. Gameplay is smooth and very lighthearted. It reminds me of a Pixar movie. I can't give the story away, just give it a try. It's fun.
