Let's be honest: This movie tries to be a cooking version of Best of Show. But it's writing isn't strong enough and the acting can't pull it off. And don't get me started on the editing. It was so choppy in spots that it would fail in a basic film class. Hard to believe this was a ten-year project and not ten months. Still, the overall attempt is amusing, and Melissa McCarthy helps a lot. In fact, had she had a major story line (instead of any of the others) this could have been significantly better. I'm guessing the multiple five star reviews are coming from family and friends of the people who produced/directed this work. But those are dishonest comments. I'm being generous with a three star review because I love films that mock reality TV. I'm not so sure a more objective review wouldn't be much harsher. One final complaint: Putting Melissa McCarthy front and center in the promotion of this movie is also dishonest. It would have been better to let people be happily surprised when she makes her limited appearance, rather than duped into thinking she's a star of the show. Cook Off is like biting into a fancy looking piece of cake only to tragically discover someone forgot to add sugar.

The movie looked interesting. It had some fun situations and some confusing issues.

This movie has poor acting, and is very dry! It is one of the worst movies I have seen in a very long time!
