Something I never knew I needed
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is probably one of those products you never realized you needed until you give it some thought and / or try it out. If you (and your friends) are able to finish a bottle in one sitting, don’t bother with this product as it probably isn’t for you. My wife and I tend to take some days to finish a bottle though so if you like to try different wines and save them for later, or simply take your time to finish a bottle, check this product out! Unboxing: The packaging is nice overall, it seemed a little wasteful for the benefit of a great presentation but it was an enjoyable unboxing. The unit contains instructions, two argon canisters, the unit, a screw cap and a bottle holder (can't tell if a plastic or cloth). The model three is plastic and doesn’t have a lot of bling but appears well built and solid. Initial use: There are some great tutorial videos on the website I highly recommend you use and you can get there via a QR code in the box. I skipped the videos and used the included instruction booklet to figure this thing out. Either way, check out one or the other as this unit isn’t very intuitive just by looking at it. The included instructions are pretty good and got it working the first try. In short, you plug in a canister in the large area, press the trigger to test the canister, insert it over the wine bottle (cork and all) and the base widens to fit around the bottle as the needle goes in. Once in, you press the trigger in short bursts which replaces the wine that comes out with argon gas to preserve the remaining wine. I tried it with a new bottle of Chardonnay, it worked exactly as described above and was kind of fun to use once you have it on there. Since the wine comes out in small amounts, it might aerate the wine a little as it comes out. You can wrap your wine bottle in a weird fabric/plastic bag it comes with but it seems kind of useless to me and like an afterthought, I’ll probably toss that aside. Bottle storage: This is where the product shines. I thought it might not work so well as after you remove it there is an observable hole, but tipping the wine bottle over nothing comes out and the cork continues to do its job even when stored on it’s side. If you have a wine bottle with a screw cap and not cork, the model three comes with one screw cap adaptor. You screw it on and use the product like normal as it has a silicone insert area for the needle which will preserve the wine up to three months. This is less than the cork option but still useful. The canisters are supposed to be good for about 15 drinks or so each and only go for around $17.99 on the Best Buy website (2 pack) but are currently only for in store pickup. Coravin sells them for $26.95 in a three pack with one time payment or subscriptions for a small discount. I saw them on Amazon too so they should be easy to get if you need refills. Summary: This is a great product for slow wine drinkers or anyone who wants to try a different wine with various meals and wants to keep their bottles well stored for months. Worth the money if this describes you!

Perfect for the occasional glass or sampling
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Using this couldn't be simpler. Place the bottle into the included wine sleeve. This is a safety feature should the bottle crack. Clamp the Coravin on to a bottle and push the hollow needle down through the cork. Tilt the bottle over a glass. Push the trigger quickly to insert a short burst of argon gas and pressurize the bottle. The wine will then pour out. It does not take much on a full bottle, but you'll need to add more as the pour slows due to a vacuum developing, The wine will pour right out. Not as fast as an uncorked bottle, but it pours much quicker than I expected for such a small needle. Pull the needle and hole in the cork seals itself up after a few seconds, but some bottles took a minute or longer before they stopped leaking. Which made me wonder if air got in. But after a week, a second glass seems OK. The needle seems sturdy enough, I can't imagine it breaking with normal use. This is perfect for the occasional glass where you do not want to open a bottle, or sampling from different bottles and not compromising the bottle. Great for special expensive bottles. I poured 10 glasses from a gas cylinder. The cost of the argon cylinder puts the cost of use at just under $1/glass. Not including the top of the line Eleven, the other Coravin units all work the same and use the same accessories. The differences appear to be in which accessories you get and in tweaks to their appearance, color, and trigger shape. When considering which model/pack to get, a key consideration is the included accessories which vary. Some of these accessories may not be readily available and all are pricey to add later on. Getting these up front in the kit may save some frustration and extra cost. Aerator - If you like reds, you may want this $70 MSRP accessory. Needles: There are four to pick from for different situations. 1) 16.5 gauge Standard Replacement. Pours a glass in 25-29 seconds. 2) 16.5 gauge Premium Needle. Reduces cork remnants in wine should you pop the cork later on to pour. Pours a glass in 25-29 seconds. 3) 15.5 gauge Faster pours. Pours a glass in 19-25 seconds. 4) 18.0 gauge Vintage Needle for older corks that may not seal as well as newer cork. Pours a glass in 53-57 seconds. Screw Caps - These replace the metal screw cap and work with the Coravin for up to 50 punctures per the manufacturer. Storage - a basic plastic pedestal mount to keep it at the ready, or a heavier metal base? Or a Premium metal (Zinc) base with storage tray for needles and holes for extra gas cylinders up top. A storage/carrying bag Coravin Argon Cylinders which are expendable and the only ongoing cost. It's unique and that brings a high cost of the system, gas, and accessories. At this price, you expect more than all plastic parts. But used as intended on $20+ bottles the cost should break even in wasted wine saved soon enough if you drink a few glasses a week. Which makes it s worthwhile purchase for those type of wine drinkers. And there is also that cool tool wow factor to consider,

Re-cork a bottle to enjoy later
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.“Wine is the nectar of the gods” as Greek legend has it. Good wine should be enjoyed and savored. Coravin provides the opportunity to truly savor a good wine without having to drink it all within a day or two. To test this I started with 2 identical bottles of moderate priced red wine. I “poured” from both at the same time (usually a no-no in my house). One bottle had the cork out and with the other I used the Coravin model 3. I then sealed the other bottle with the Vacuvin silicon cork that I’ve been using for years. 1 week later, I poured a 2nd glass from each bottle to see how well they stayed good. As advertised, the Coravin bottle tasted as good a week later as it did the first night. The vacuvin did not. The needle goes through the cork as easily as inserting cork screw, easier really since it’s significantly smoother. Be sure to remove the foil first as the need does not pierce that the same way. Once connected, the clamps hold the top portion securely to the bottle. It’s ready to use whenever you are! “Pouring” a glass is nearly the same as a standard pour. You push the lever to add some argon gas to the bottle which adds some pressure. Tipping the bottle up pours the wine out until the pressure is equalized again. A 1 second push on the lever is enough to pour out a half glass of wine. Your overall value is highly dependent on your wine drinking preference. If you’re already in the habit of sharing a bottle with friends in one sitting, then save your money on the Coravin and spend it on good wine instead. Beyond the basic price, the argon canisters cost between $0.75 -$1 per glass, depending on the quantity you purchase. If you’re drinking alone and like variety, then this is the tool you’ve been waiting for. It will allow you to enjoy your wine when you’re ready for it without forcing you to wait for your friends to be available. In that sense, it’s the perfect antidote for Social Distancing!

Saves wine, but it's slow
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The CORAVIN Model Three is a device that will save your wine, but it takes patience when you want a glass. It is easy to set up, easy to use and it does make your wine last. I like being able to drink different wines. Since I am the sole wine drinker in my home I usually have to finish a bottle before opening a new one, and on more than one occasion I have had to pour out remaining wine because I did not finish the bottle before it went bad. What a waste! With CORAVIN I am able to have a glass of red one night and a glass of white the next without worrying about either going bad before finishing them. Saving money in the long run. It is slow though. I'm short on patience and this takes patience to get a glass poured. Overall, the savings make it worth the wait.

Enjoy that premium wine at your own leisure!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have you ever wanted to buy that expensive bottle of wine and not have to consume it almost immediately and enjoy or share it at your own leisure? Well, the Coravin Model 3 preservation system might just be what you are looking for. The premise of the Coravin is simple: use it to “extract” the wine without removing the original cork, thus preventing compromising the precious wine’s texture, color, aroma, and most importantly, flavor. The system comes well packaged and in the box you will find the tool, 1 needle, 2 argon gas canisters, 1 needle cleaner, a bottle cap, and a bottle bag. There are also instructions and warranty information. The system is relatively easy to assemble. While the instructions could be better written, there is a link on them to the website’s instructional video, which I strongly suggest you watch. Just screw in the needle being careful not to bend it. Drop an argon gas canister with the round part downwards in the receptacle and screw it to the back of the tool. That’s basically it. Now you are ready to use it! To use it, adjust the clamps to the bottle’s neck ensuring that it is secure. It is a good idea to put the bottle in the included bag for safety. Press the top button once to clear any trapped air or wine residue on the needle. Hold the bottle with one hand, grab the top of the Corvin tool, and press down firmly until the needle perforates the cork. Using the handle, grab the bottle and tip it about 45 degrees over the glass. Pump the trigger and pour until the flow diminishes or stops. Pump again if you want more. The system will pump the argon gas into the bottle. When done, simply grab the bottle with one hand, pull the tool up by the handle until the needle clears the cork and detach the system from the bottle. It is really that simple. It is also easy to clean. Simply rinse it with water and pump the tab once to clean inside the needle. By the way, this system will only work with NATURAL corks. It will not work with synthetic or rubber corks. However, Corvin included a bottle cap that can be used instead. Another thing I learned is that it is a good idea to swirl the wine a bit right after pouring to dissipate the argon gas which may still be present. Again, it is very important to pump the trigger once right before inserting the needle into the cork or you will inject air and/or residue into the wine, and taint it. One Thing to keep in mind is that replacement needles, caps, and argon capsules (which are good for about 15 glasses) can get a bit expensive. According to Corvin, the wine can be preserved for years. We tried a not-too-expensive wine and after a couple of weeks, my partner, who is much more acquainted with wine tasting, said that it was just like when it was first opened, and that made me happy. In the end, the Coravin Model 3 Wine Preservation System, while being seemingly expensive at first, is very much worth the price. From now on, I will not hesitate to bring home that new bottle of Chateau Lafite Rothschild and enjoy it to the full extent for a long time.

For a specific type of wine consumer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The CORAVIN Model Three is obviously for a wine lover. This allows you to keep your expensive best wine fresh by using a pretty cool tactic. You receive the unit, 2 gas capsules, a needle cleaning tool, wine bottle sleeve and screw cap. The unit comes pre-assembled. You only need to install the gas capsule. It is easy to install by placing it in the capsule cup and screwing it into the main unit. If you have wine with a screw cap, open the wine and immediately place the CORAVIN screw cap on the bottle. Use the device as normal on the bottle with the screw cap. To use the unit, you do the following: - press the trigger on the top of the device to release some gas and ensure the needle is clear. - press the needle through the cork or provided screw cap. - tilt the bottle like you are going to pour it. - press the trigger to inject some gas into the bottle. - the wine will come out of the device spout into your glass. - when you are done, remove the needle from the bottle, press the trigger to release some gas and clear the needle, and rinse the needle with water. Let it dry and put it away for the next time. You will do this same procedure if you are using for different bottles of wines for the same event. After using this for a couple of weeks, here are my thoughts: - it is very easy to use. - it can only be used on either real corks or screw cap bottles using the provided CORAVIN screw cap. - if used on a synthetic cork, the hole from the needle may not seal correctly. The wine could leak through the needle hole. - this provides the flexibility to have one glass of wine when you want one and keep the wine fresh. I found this very useful on one event where 4 people wanted 4 different types of wine. Each person could have their glass of wine without opening the bottle. So the wine will be fresh for the next event. - if you purchase and consume very expensive wine, this is a no brainer in my eyes. - if you typically have one or two glasses from a bottle, there is a strong argument for the CORAVIN device. - the unit comes with two capsules. I have not used one completely yet. I wonder how long a capsule will last. You can purchase replacement capsules. If you choose a subscription for the capsules, there is a 10% discount. Final thoughts: If you like expensive wine to enjoy and do not consume a bottle at a time, this CORAVIN Model Three is the device for you. If you like the flexibility of having a glass of various wines at one time, this CORAVIN Model Three is the device for you. It is also a great conversation piece. If you typically consume an entire bottle of wine at once, this unit is not for you. If your favorite wine(s) have a synthetic cork, this device is not for you.

Coravin Model 3
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just received my Coravin Model Three Wine System a couple weeks ago, and I'm very impressed. This little gem couldn't have arrived at a better time; thanks us being in quarantine. Wine connoisseurs UNITE!!! Inside the box comes the Coravin Model Three, 2 Coravin Pure Argon Capsules, and a Coravin Screw cap. Also included in the user manual is a needle cleaning tool, cleverly stored on the inside flap of the manual. Coravin also include a nice wine bottle sleeve as well. Setting up this device was very simple as can be. A quick start guide is even included on the inside flap of the box. First make sure the smart clamps are pushed up. If not, hold down the clamp release button and slide up. Then unscrew the capsule cup, insert a capsule and screw back on. Slide smart clamps back down and push the system down on top of the wine bottle of your choice. Tip bottle and press and release the trigger button. Tip the bottle back up and lastly enjoy that fabulous wine. This is so simple to use and is so much easier than having to make sure you know where your corkscrew is. I tend to lose my corkscrew all the time. Coravin states that you can enjoy a glass of wine today, next week, next month or even years later. I however, probably won't be able to test that part, seeing as how an open bottle is an empty bottle in my house. LOL!!! The included screw cap is great for those bottles without corks. Simply screw the cap onto a bottle and push the system down on the cap as you would a corked bottle. Great wine pouring system and makes pouring multiple glasses easy. It's stated that you should be able to get about 15 5oz glasses of wine out of each capsule. This however will depend on how much wine you're pouring each time and ensuring the capsule cup is screwed on tightly enough.

Elegantly Crafted Wine System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will start of by saying, I am far from a wine connoisseur or aficionado. I have a few select favorites, and only occasionally enjoy a glass or two. In fact, I probably end up discarding more from the bottle than I actually consume.Which is why the CORAVIN Model Three is perfect for a novice wine consumer such as myself. Unboxing was an event unto itself. Well-packaged, elegant, thoughtful design and solid build. I was impressed by not only the device itself, but also the included contents. First, the CORAVIN Model Three automatically adjusts to securely attach itself to any size wine bottle. While primarily designed for corked bottles, the CORAVIN also includes adapters for screw top bottles. Setup was straight forward, and the included literature was easy to follow. The included cartridges were simple and quick to install. After removing a couple safety devices prior to first use, the CORAVIN was ready to use. It was really as simple as placing the device onto the bottle and giving it a quick push. That's it - ready to use. If I had to pick one thing to critique, it would be the pour size. But even that could be considered nitpicking. For my preferred pour size, it takes about three presses of the dispensing tab. Otherwise, I really have nothing bad to say. I am incredibly impressed by the ease of use and the length of freshness I now get from each bottle. No more wasted wine, and the last pour is just as fresh as the first. I definitely recommend the CORAVIN Model Three. Cheers!

Really neat gadget!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was intimidating at first, but actually very easy to use. Much smaller than I thought it would be. Super cool to see how it works and looking forward to seeing how it will help my wine last longer. Will be interested to see how long the CO2 capsules last though..If they don't last long, it could be expensive to keep up with

Professional vintner's tool
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the most useful tool I didn't know I needed. I used to always worry about not finishing a bottle of wine once opened. The wife and I will have a glass each, then put it away until the following weekend, at which point it becomes cooking wine. The Coravin changed all that in a big way. Now I'm free to have the expensive wine on weekends and not worry about letting it go to waste! It's much easier than I thought too; just insert the argon pellet as if you were pressurizing a whipped cream canister and you're ready for use. I don't even remove the foil, the needle slides right in. Tip the bottle and pull the trigger for exactly one second, it should get you about 3 ounces of wine. And the best part, my Pomerol stays fresh until I'm ready to pop the cork. Now I'm starting to collect the likes of Petrus and Romanee Conti. All I need to taste it is a micro tap on the Coravin then put it away! Awesome idea!
