Personal Preference is Determining Factor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this product is well made, high quality, easy to use and does exactly what it says it will. Want just one glass of wine but don't want to spoil the entire bottle? Than this is the product for you. This device is simple to set up. I attempted to set it up without the instructions and was able to simply do so. Pouring came out smooth and expected. No sputtering when it was held as instructed. And wine that was left for over a week came out fresh and unspoiled. The four stars instead of five is based up the cost of each cartridge. It seems that each cartridge will last for approximately two bottles. So I wouldn't use this for trying to save a bottle of BareFoot Zinfandel simply because of cost. If you are not going to finish a bottle of wine in a sitting, this product is for you! I would recommend this product!

Perfect for social distancing
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With this new era of being careful and staying indoors I am starting to appreciate wine more then before. Although a lot of wine bottles don’t have the cork some still do and this Coravin is so awesome to use both to keep it fresh but also for how easy it was to both setup and use. It sounds like it will be challenging at least to me before unboxing but it was very easy to use. I do recommend it and have used it numerous times without a problem.

For the Wine Aficionados
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm someone who likes wine but doesn't drink it all the time. And if I'm going to drink it, I like a good wine. Problem is, I don't want that good bottle of wine to go to waste if I only want one glass every now and then. The other benefit I found with this is sometimes when I have people over, we have trouble agreeing on what kind of wine we should have! Another problem solved. The Coravin is the perfect solution for me. I was a little apprehensive about the idea of if but have not been disappointed. It's a little weird operating the first time, making sure you insert the needle properly, etc. but it's not difficult and works perfectly. Admittedly, this item is not inexpensive. However, if you're drinking a good quality wine, you don't want to compromise on the functionality of something like this. Coravin delivers exactly what it promises, allowing you to pour just one glass of wine and preserving the rest of the bottle for later consumption. This is a great way to enjoy a good bottle and at your own pace without risk of it turning. Recommended!

Does just what I want!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coravin Model Five Wine Preservation System I have wanted something like the Coravin Model Five Wine Preservation System for several years now, but don’t remember seeing this system in my prior searches. I like wine, but I often might want a glass when my wife does not. I don’t like opening a bottle to have one glass of wine because I’m concerned I might not finish the bottle before the flavor is diminished by exposure to the air. Even the next day, it is never quite the same. So when I saw the Coravin system pop up as a Best Buy TIN selection, I knew I was a good candidate for testing it. The Coravin is easy to operate and appears to work really well. Out of the box, all I had to do for setup was to remove some labels and insert one of the Argon 65 gas capsules into the capsule holder on the Coravin. Next, I removed the foil from the top of one of my full wine bottles. With the bottle on the counter I placed the Coravin on the top and pushed the needle through the cork. It was very easy. After that I raised the bottom of the wine bottle higher than the spout, held it over my glass and pressed the button once. Pressing the button releases some of the Argon gas from the capsule into the bottle through the needle. Releasing the button appears to close the path from the Argon capsule to the needle and open the path from the needle to the spout. As a result, the pressure created in the bottle by the Argon gas capsule, pushes the wine through the needle and out of the spout into my glass. Coravin recommends pressing and releasing the button fairly quickly and repeating this as needed until you have filled your glass to the desired level. The number of presses depends entirely on the size of your glass and your personal definition of “one glass of wine”. To stop the wine from flowing you can wait for it to stop by itself or you can just lower the bottom of the wine bottle until it is lower than the spout. At that point, the gas pressure in the bottle will expel any remaining wine in the needle and spout with a brief hiss and then stop. This method seems preferable to me, since it purges the needle and spout of any remaining wine. Next I removed the device from the bottle. As a test, I turned the bottle upside down and there was no leak. Not even the drop of wine that Coravin says is very common to see. Just a clean cork that looked untouched. Since no oxygen entered the bottle, the wine in the bottle should stay fresh as if the bottle was never touched, other than the missing foil. I marked the bottle with the date I tapped it, just for my own tracking and put it back in the wine fridge. This is very nice. I can have one glass today and if I don’t get back to that bottle for several days or even weeks, it should still taste like I just opened the bottle. Update: Five days after having my first glass from this bottle using the Coravin device, I removed the cork. My wife and I each had a glass. The wine definitely tasted like it was a fresh bottle that had never been touched until we actually opened it. This is great. I can now have a glass of wine without committing to drink the entire bottle quickly. It also means my wife and I can have a glass of wine from two different bottles to match our personal preference on any occasion. Coravin recommends cleaning and drying the device immediately after use to avoid allowing wine to dry on and in the device. They include instructions for this in their user manual. It is very straightforward. Coravin also includes a screw on cap which allows you to use this system with wines that come with screw off caps. You remove the original cap and immediately replace it with the Coravin cap. Then use the system as you would with a corked bottle. Of course this style of cap does expose the wine to the open air briefly while you trade caps, but it limits the exposure to the neck of the bottle and is certainly far less exposure than you’d get by pouring a glass and replacing the original cap onto the bottle with an additional “glass full” of air in it. Coravin offers several accessories, replacement needles and Argon capsules to enhance and keep the system working over the years. Of course this convenience and preservation isn’t free. The Model 5 I received lists for $299.95. Other models range in cost from $199.95 to $799.95. The cost of the Argon capsules varies (cheaper by the dozen) between about $8.30 and $9 depending on how many you buy. Coravin says a single Argon capsule will last for “up to 15 glasses of wine”. This depends on how efficient you are with the gas, of course, when pouring and purging the needle...as well as the number of ounces you consider to be a “glass” of wine. The standard definition is five ounces, but many of us are more generous, so the number of “glasses” we get from a capsule may be fewer, but the ounces dispensed should be similar. Fifteen standard glasses would be about three bottles of wine. I’d guess we might get four or more bottles from a single capsule since we don’t use the system for the last glass of wine in each bottle. You need to pop the cork for that last glass or you will leave wine in the bottle. So the cost of preserving the flavor of your wine when you only want one glass at a time, is probably close to a $1 a glass not counting the cost of the Coravin tool itself. I don’t know how long the needles last or the device itself, so the cost could approach $2 depending on the longevity of the other components of the system and the subsequent amortization of those periodic investments. I think it is worth it for me. I won’t use this for every glass of wine I drink. It is only for those occasions when I want a glass or two and want to preserve the rest of the bottle for another time in the future. I recommend this system for people in similar situations.

Great for a wine lover and gadget lover
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All rolled into one. I thought those automatic cork screws were cool, this was invented! I didn't think I needed one until I used it! The Coravin 5 is for the wine drinker who drinks about 1 or 2 glasses a day, at dinner or just because. Because of this, you cannot just uncork a bottle and just have one or two glasses. You pretty much have to finish the bottle or have friends help finish the bottle, because putting the cork back in or using those stoppers just isn't the same. The Coravin five I used came with a bag, the Coravin with the needle already installed and three Argon cylinders that resemble CO2 cartridges that you use in an air gun or paint pellet gun. Argon is a gas that does not affect the taste in the wine and this has been known for a number of years. Here, Coravin uses this with it's clever needle system. The only set up needed is to rinse it to clean the system a bit and install one of the three included Argon cartridges. Basically what you do is take the foil off to reveal the cork, then line up the Coravin and push the needed down in one motion. From there, pull the trigger to let some of the gas into the bottle and then tilt the bottle to pour. It's important to tilt it enough so that the liquid will flow out and not be straight horizontal. And when done, and want to save the bottle of wine, just pull out the Coravin in one motion straight up. It's pretty easy once you try it a few times. To clean you just run it under some tap and blow out any residue that may be still in the unit, after that, towel dry the Coravin and put it in it's included pouch which can double as a pouch for the wine. Wipe off the top of the cork of any wine and you can now put it away without fear of leaks or store in your fridge to chill without fear of where you can fit the bottle. Each cartridge will last about two bottles of wine. The refills are a bit pricey, but we are talking about buying gas cylinders. It's a price to pay when something works and that will determine if this gadget is right for you. I wanted to go through at least one cylinder before placing a review. I wanted to see how it fared to uninstall and reinstall the Argon cartridge, and I can say it is just a screw on and off of the cover. Would I recommend the Coravin 5? Yes to wine drinkers that drink at least 2 wines per week or people who like to change up what type of wiine they drink. There are the lower versions of this as well and I believe should work the same and I would recommend those to the one a week bottle wine drinkers. The one thing that you may want is if you like your wines chilled, you would to have a wine basket if you want to continue using the Coravin and want to keep the wine cold.

Take Your Time To Enjoy Your Wine
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PROS: - Very easy to operate - Premium build and feel - Three capsules included - Coravin screw cap included - Easy to clean CONS: - Be mindful of capsule pricing if gifting the Coravin Model Five -- Set Up -- Using the Coravin Model Five for the first time is very simple and easy. Coravin provides a very well-detailed guide, which is the first thing you will find when opening the box. If you feel more comfortable with a video tutorial, rather than reading the manual, Coravin provides a few videos on their YouTube channel as well. The most "challenging" part of setting up the Model Five is inserting the argon capsule, which even that is quite quick and easy. -- Using the Model Five -- I don't want to go into a full explanation of how to operate the Model Five (since the included manual does a great job doing that, plus there are several YouTube videos), but I will say this: Coravin makes it very quick and easy to enjoy your favorite wine one glass (or two, who's judging) at a time. You simply mount the Model Five on the wine bottle, pierce the cork, tilt, and tap the "trigger" to pour the wine. One trick I've found with getting the most out of the capsules is to only tap the trigger as needed and wait for the flow of wine to stop before taking the Model Five off the wine bottle. This prevents any wasted argon gas from escaping when you tilt the bottle upright. Once I'm done with the Model Five for the evening, I'll quickly clean out the system by running water through the spout for a few moments. Then just tap the trigger to clear out any water and dry the Model Five with a dry cloth. -- The Capsules -- Coravin claims that each capsule is good for up to 15 five ounce classes of wine. Your mileage will vary greatly, based on how much you use the trigger with each pour. You can buy new capsules from Coravin's website. If you're gifting the Model Five to someone, I would just keep in mind that they're going to need to buy new capsules now and then, and that they will be okay with the pricing. -- BOTTOM LINE -- I LOVE that I can enjoy a glass or two of wine on my own time and schedule. Re-corking or refrigerating opened bottles are a thing of the past! If you want to enjoy your wine on your own time, I HIGHLY recommend considering the Coravin Model Five.

A "must have" for even amateur wine connoisseurs!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As someone who regularly consumes wine, but not a lot in one sitting usually, I have always considered getting one of these (from various brands and types) for my home because it seemed pretty neat and convenient to have. Plus, it would allow me to easily preserve wine and not have to go through the hassle of using a cork screw wine opener and having to plug the cork back in. I haven't used a product like this before, but it definitely doesn't take a rocket scientist to use this with the "smart clamps." The instructions are also pretty straightforward, though I do wish that this particular model included more than one screw cap. The included one will fit most standard size wine bottles, though for larger bottles you may need a larger cap. However, for the "average" bottle of wine the included cap will work well enough. As a plus, if you are even mildly tech savvy, you can scan the included QR code to access videos online of how to use this product if you a visual tutorial. Overall, this is an awesome product. While I only consider myself an "amateur wine connoisseur and as someone who regularly cooks with wines, I definitely look forward to utilizing this product more frequently as I'll be able to have access to more than one type of wine more easily and effortlessly.

Perfect for Quarantimes!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Gone are the days of having to “budget” my wine drinking because I don’t want bottles to go to waste. Either I end up drinking more or I drink less because I won’t be able to finish a bottle (yes, I unfortunately do not have that skill). This Coravin makes me enjoy my bottles, at my own pace, especially at these days when people cannot really come over and I end up drinking over zoom gatherings. It is not common for anyone to use this, so for me, it took some figuring out when I first opened it. Luckily instructions are easy to understand, as long as you pay attention. The labels, and descriptions are helpful (especially when looking at certain ends, like the correct gas tank end, for example). Those are very important for a product that I was not familiar yet. Now everything is easy and I can enjoy wine when I please. There are some cabernets though that I am more familiar with taste-wise, that I noticed are more robust when I use the Coravin. So I learned how to wait and air them out a bit if I want the taste that I am more accustomed to. Otherwise, this is such a great device and any wine drinker should have at home. To wine drinkers, I recommend 10000000000000x!

Every glass was like the bottle was just openned
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I confess i was a bit skeptical. I put the Coravin into a bottle of wine and had a glass with dinner. The next night I had a glass from that bottle. I waited a few nights and had another glass. No matter how long the wine sat, when i poured a glass it tasted just like the first. Amazing.

We Had Issues with the CO2 Catridges
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to be impressed with this product. Me and my wife are avid wine drinkers and the Coravin Model Five seemed like a great opportunity to be able to drink some of our favorite wines on our own time without wasting. I'll first start off by saying the product does work. It does what it's supposed to do in being able to penetrate the cork and deliver the wine without uncorking. The problem seems to be with their C02 Cartridges. We did exactly what the instructions told us to do. Each time we installed cartridges it worked great the first time and was completely empty the 2nd time we went to use it. Something is causing the cartridges to slow leak until they're empty. I tried to call customer service but they were unable to help me resolve this problem. With that being said I'm not going to waste a bunch of money on C02 cartridges just to have them empty themselves on a regular basis. I wish I could love this product but I'm just not impressed at the moment. Maybe they will work out the kinks in the future but until then I'll stick to the normal method of uncorking my wine.
