Lost More Channels Than I Gained

I was excited about finally getting a remote-controlled antenna that I could control from the comfort of my living room, or any other room in which I watch television. So I wasted no time after receiving the Core Innovations Outdoor/Attic Antenna to install it. The installation itself was not as straightforward as I thought it would be. The instructions booklet is quite vague at times, and the number of hardware pieces included just don't seem to match the number required to properly install the unit. I actually had to use some of the hardware from my already installed OTA antenna, but in all reality, that isn't really a big deal. I first installed the unit where my previous antenna was mounted. After getting it put together, I did a channel scan and was disappointed to find I had lost half of the channels I had with the previous antenna. Using the remote to change the direction of the disk, I was unable to get any additional channels back. As much as I hated to, I decided to mount the Core unit in the attic. Now, my attic is not spacious by any stretch of the imagination. Where I needed to mount the antenna required two trips up and down the ladder, and a somewhat perilous journey navigating the twists and turns throughout the attic. But I was certain that mounting the antenna in a higher elevation would provide much better results. Not so. After mounting the Core antenna in the attic, I gained only one station, and it is iffy. After several adjustments and rescans, I gained no additional channels than when it was mounted outside. As my roof is almost brand new, I am loathe to put any holes in it to mount an antenna. The antenna boasts of a reach of 100 miles. It is a little over 50 miles as the crow flies to the farthest station from my house. It is possible that my house's proximity to the woods interferes with the broadcasted signals. However, to lose so many channels (compared to my old antenna) just doesn't make this a product I can recommend. I love the concept, and hopefully Core will improve the design in the future.

I feel like I just got cable TV!

I was very excited to receive this new antenna since it mounted on the roof and could possibly replace all of my old indoor antennas. I planned to mount it to my roof, run the cable down my house and into my house, then back out of my house into a splitter. It was a very ambitious project. I already had the coax cables running from the side of my house to my rooms in my house, then going through the wall. This was from my old CATV hookup, but now the cables were all abandoned. So I grabbed my extending ladder and took my tools and my new antenna up with me. I had an old Dish Network dish installed, so I unbolted the dish itself, leaving the pole it was mounted to. The pole was already attached to my roof so all I had to do is insert the new antenna's pole and put some tape to secure it. I ran the coax form the antenna down my house using cable attachments. I then pushed the cable into my basement using a hole, then connected it to the power supply box included with the antenna. I then ran a coax from the supply box back out of the house and into a splitter. The splitter has 2 coax cables running out and into my bedroom and living room via holes in the wall. I then ran the included cable from the power supply box to my TV in my basement. So that is 3 total TVs from the one antenna. I plugged the power supply box in, crossed my fingers, and turned on my first TV...BAM all the channels! I ran an auto search for new channels on each TV and they all found 67 channels each. Awesome! I was so excited! For some reason it did not find CBS Chicago, but none of my antennas ever have for some reason. Maybe I will try to rotate the antenna, but I am afraid to lose other channels. I am very happy with what I have now. So far I have absolutely no complaints about this antenna. I was reluctant to try to run it to so many TVs, I thought there would be some signal loss but there was not. I cannot believe this worked! I seriously feel like I just had cable TV installed in my house. Everything is nice and clean looking and I could not be happier!

Set out to install the Core Innovations outdoor of attic antenna today and this was my experience. Opened the box and found the antenna, a 25 ft. coax cable, the mounting “j” pole, mounting hardware, and a manual. The hardware includes a motorized switch to rotate the antenna. I mounted the antenna and chose to aim it towards our valley’s transponders. We used to get about 7 channels rebroadcasted from Mt. Wilson. They were all sent out via UHF and worked from poor to really good. I haven’t bothered to cut the cord and test out the broadcasts since the country went digital, so I figured this was a good opportunity to do so. Our one local broadcaster back then is no longer sending out a digital or analog signal, so that’s not an option anymore. What I did get, and it came in nice and clear was the 3 digital PBS broadcasts from the transponder. The repeaters/transponders are maintained by one of the area’s local parks departments and I’ve emailed them asking what channels are currently being sent out OTA, but that information won’t be available for this review. I will say the PBS stations look as good as my cable signal. I did get a bit of artifacting, but with a slight adjustment, the channels were great to view. Would I recommend this antenna to a friend? Well, if my friend lived in an area that had a lot of OTA signals being aired, yes definitely I would. I think it would give them a decent picture from a lot of network television stations. It’s just too bad that my area doesn’t offer much anymore. I thought that was the reason to switch to digital, so rural areas got better reception, but in my case, that’s not true. So, for now, the antenna comes down and gets shelved until this area has more digital choices, but that shouldn’t reflect on this fine antenna.

The Core Innovations antenna is a great way to cut the cord from the expensive cable / Satellite providers and provides great reception in full HD or 4K. Full HD or 4K does depend on the Television providers in your area, but with a 100-mile range, you will most likely pick up at least a full HD signal. I cut the cord a long time ago and it was one of the best things that I did. I purchased a popular brand DVR that was able to use the OTA (Over the Air) signal to record, and I was not missing out on any of my main shows. For the most part, when you want to maximize your benefits of using an OTA, you may have to adjust it to get the best reception per channel, and this might be difficult to do, but the Core Innovations HDTV antenna has a motorized feature and a remote to rotate the dish 360 degrees so you can always get the best reception w/o having to manually adjust the antenna. I am fortunate that all of my TV stations near me are on the top of one mountain and I just have to aim in their direction. I have picked up 60 total stations to my surprise. My previous HD OTA only was able to pick up 32, but that one only had a range of 60 miles. This picked up a lot more for me, granted most of those stations I will never watch, but at least its an option. Installing the antenna was easy, but if you do have a 2-story house, you will need a longer coax to make the run if the TV is on a different floor. I was able to tap into some existing coax from a previous cable TV install so that worked out for me. I must admit, I was surprised that this worked at all, my experiencing of opening the box had me worried. There was no packaging inside and the pieces were just tossed in the box with plastic covering some of them. Not a very professional presentation, but it in my case, this did not affect the working of the unit. If your local UPS isn’t as friendly with boxes, you might have a different experience. If you pick it up in the store, be sure to open and inspect it before you take it home. Other than that, my experience with this was good and I feel it is a good option for cutting the cord and picking up local stations in your area. Pros: Motorized to adjust reception channel reception Range Cons: Packaging

We are a cord cutter family currently & we recently had a chance to try the Core Innovations motoroized outdoor/attic antenna. I was a little bummed to learn that we were not in an ideal spot to receive a lot of channels as we are super close to St. Louis & thought it would be easy to get those channels. That was an incorrect belief & assumption. The included material mention trying 2 different sites, one had moved or was gone & I found a better solution than the 2 the manufacturer suggests in their literature. I was able to get everything mounted and installed pretty easily. The build quality of the motorized antenna feels flimsy or at the least unsteady. My next complaint would be the no memory function for where exactly to move to. Old C-band dishes (those huge ones people had at their homes) would move themselves, why can't this thing now 30 years later too memorize its location & automatically move there? Definitely minus a start because of the flimsy motorized movement and minus a star for outdated literature and also for the not having memory (knew it going in but it is a needed feature so I subtracted a star). Overall we are not blown away by the antenna but it is also not a worthless paperweight so it does perform somewhat it is not phenomenal but it is also not horrible and a paperweight. Plus, watching locals again has been kinda nice, even if we are slightly limited on what we can receive based on where we are located.

Initial impressions of this antenna weren't that great considering all of the parts were just loose in the box. In fact, I was worried some parts were missing or broken but in the end nothing was missing and I was able to assemble the antenna so everything works. I could see this being an issue if a package was opened so if you buy one I would first check to make sure all of the parts are there before you go to assemble it. Once I figured out how it went together, putting it up was fairly straight forward with most of the work being the time it took to run the coax. The electronic movement does make it easier to adjust the antenna and it does work. I'd say the key thing I liked the most more than the feature of it being able to move is the size/look once installed is a lot better than other antennas. In terms of signal strength, I didn't see a ton of difference (at least where I live in a rural area) other than two channels were more stable than what they were with my indoor antenna which could just be that I was able to get a better signal with an antenna being mounted outdoors and able to be moved to fine tune the signal. In all, I'd recommend it but knock it a star for the quality of packaging and the product itself seems made in a way that makes me question how long it will last and continue to work. I anticipate it will last but I definitely think that it could have been built and packaged better.

So for over 20 years, I have had some form of antenna on my home. First it was the only way to get an HD signal. Then it was the only way to get a quality HD signal. Now with cord cutting and trimming services, unless you want to pay a LOT for just a few channels... it is the bets way (and free) to get them. So I just had a roof re-done and this is a perfect new antenna. It is very light weight... Easy to put together. If you are good with a drill and ratchet, only took me maybe 15 minute to put the mounting bracket on and get it all connected. I already had a standard coax and as able to plug that right in and boom... GREAT reception. I am about 30 miles away from the broadcast antennas and all the expected channels are coming in perfectly. The rotation mechanism, I don't really need to use, as I can actually see the broadcast antennas (Chicago area, and they are from the tallest building).. so was able to line them up right away. Visually, this looks like a small disc and modern, so doesn't really look out of place at all on my roof.

SETTING: outdoors at 19 feet high, mounted on included pole stand. PROS: Apparently solid/good electronics for reception and amplification. I was able to receive 79max of the possible 96 channels for my location. Excellent signal strength on most channels. Good std. antenna coax cable. Hardware for mounting included - metal stand, and metal fasteners. CONS: Ignore the advertised range. I was only able to pull in stations located less than 75 miles; with the 50-75 miles being random fringe/unstable reception. The remote, is next to useless. One must be within line of site of the 'control box' for it to work. It will not work thru walls and thus many trips up/down the ladder are required if working alone. I ended up doing all adjustments manually. The dish and pole mount are plastic and do not inspire confidence in durability. The dish has a horizontal travel of 360 degrees but because the dish mount is so short, the vertical travel is about 300 degrees -- preventing full signal adjustments. The red power led's are bright leds and not dim. ones. They are extremely distracting from the TV, as the control box has to be very close to the TV. All fasteners/bolts are METRIC and thus special tools required. I do not recommend using the 4 expansion/self tapping screws included, if you plan on moving the mount at anytime. They ARE permanent. Use the lag screws instead. The biggest grief -- is that despite claims it does NOT pick up HI-VHF signals (like Southfield Channel 2). This antenna appears to be designed only for UHF. Digital tv is both UHF and VHF. While the cable from ant. to contrl. box is good, the one from box to TV is nonstandard and rather short in comparision. Rather difficult to know whether to recommend it or not. I assume that there are better alternatives out there, with features that hit the mark better.

This thing is one solid antenna. Great for the city or way out in the country, it will work for any use case. In the box you get the antenna, the amp that doubles as an ir receiver and control for the rotation, and a remote that you can use to rotate the antenna. You also get a long weather proof coax cable to run from the antenna to the amp. In use this thing is amazing. Pictures come in crystal clear and when I find a channel coming from a tower in the opposite direction I can easily just rotate the antenna to get better reception. A few features I really like is that the power for the motor travels through the coax cable. So no need to run power to the antenna itself. The receiver also has two outputs so you won’t need to run a split to connect two TVs. This really is a powerful antenna for any area. I live in the city so all my towers are fairly close but it is rated for 100 miles so should work great for any use.

I live in a weird place where the signal of local stations comes from different areas of the city. Using antennas in the attic is where I get the best signal (can't put them outside... HOA). I've tried several, but could never get everything I wanted. With the ability to move this one remotely, I can now get all of the local channels, and it's the clearest I've gotten them. I still can't get them all without moving the antenna, but the rotation with the remote makes the change SO much easier!

Normally the unboxing is something that is not given much attention however, on this occasion it seems to me that it is something that needs to be improved because when you open the box all the pieces of the antenna are loose, in my opinion there is a danger that some of the pieces are broken and therefore can not carry out the correct installation but to my good fortune there was nothing broken so I could proceed with the installation. The installation is relatively simple if you use the necessary tools, such as a drill, screwdrivers, etc. since it must be installed on a wall and give enough space to the antenna so that it can rotate. Well, once the installation was done I decided to assemble the antenna since it does not come in one piece, it has an instruction manual that I must say is not very intuitive and seems incomplete, it is not well explained. Checking up the pieces I could see that they are not of a very good quality, it seems that the remote control or the base where the antenna is controlled were to break, at the time of testing there was no problem in this regard, but what I can say that between the connection, installation and assembly takes a little time and whoever installs it should take this into account. Finally at the time of tuning channels on my television, I could tune quite a few but not all of my interest, it seems to me that there are many channels that are just to be but from there the classic national and local channels in a very decent quality and stability but nothing transcendent. I do not know if doing all the installation and assembly and the price is worth it for having practically the same channels as a conventional antenna, unfortunately I would not recommend this antenna for TV.

I have installed this in my attic and I was able to access over 40 channels in my area of live TV. The channels don't stutter and they are very smooth. I was very impressed and amazed by how many digital channels are available in my area. Easy to install and mount in the attic. I didn't want to have an antenna on my roof, that is why I installed this in my attic. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a great antenna.

I was unable to mount the antenna at the recommended height of 30’ above the ground as I live in a 1 story ranch home, and my effective mounting height was just under 20 feet. The results would have been better at 30 ‘high, but I’m hesitant to say markedly better. I was hopeful about this antenna, alas, I experienced mostly problems with minimal success. Though directions were straight forward, the major problem for me was that I could not control the antenna via it’s rotation motor. There was power, but no rotation. That meant positioning/pointing was tedious and I gave up after an hour. Suffice it to say that reception worked for 1 channel. Signal went in and out. If I had been able to use the remote or even the control on the box to get the antenna to rotate, and perhaps mounting at 30’, perhaps results would have been better. My test results were wanting!

On paper, this antenna has lots going for it. In practice, not so much. First off, even when securely mounted, the antenna head wiggles/moves. In any type of windy condition, you can see it move as the rotating head isn't solid. My guess would be that it's got plastic rotational gears that allow it to flex. I would not install this outside. It's probably fine for an attic antenna. Signal reception was no better than either of the other 2 antenna I use. it actually receives 2 less channels no matter where I've pointed it than the better of my 2 existing antennas. I wasted several hours trying different locations outside my home to get the best signal. Channels that are clear on my previous antennas are randomly pixelated or grainy. No channel came in exceptionally clear, even the ones that broadcast in HD. I tried 3 different locations to mount without improvement. Made small incremental adjustments to get signals to come in. All in all, I would not recommend this antenna.

I will say right off the bat, we live in an area that almost no antennas work due to we are on the backside of a natural downslope of the earth. In saying that, we have to mount our antennas up as high as possibly to get reception and the Core Innovations setup had to be as well. Now, with that said, did we get channels? Yes, the most we have ever received with a $300 one was 13 channels and the Core Innovations received the same 13 channels but 4 of them where in actual HD, that was a first. Being 32 miles from the stations broadcast area, we are definitely not out of the "range" that you have to take into effect. The amplified box made zero difference in quality or amount of channels and I did not expect a difference from past experiences, I know it would not make a difference but I cannot lie and not say I was kind of hopeful though. I have a friend that lives at the top of the area about 6 miles away and he receives over 40 channels, I want that too but I really think it does not matter what antenna we use. The motor movement function made no difference for us so I cannot comment if it works or helps. I could see it working if you want to receive channels from other areas but we live along Lake Erie, so no Canadian channels for us. I want to bring up Core Innovations' customer service. We had an issue with the box during delivery and parts were expelled from the box along the way to my home. The team at Core had me a new one to my door within a week and did not miss a beat doing it. I can see this setup working great if you live in an area that you know antennas work but is it really better than the expensive ones? Maybe or Maybe not, but its matched the function of our expensive one and added 4 of the channels in HD, so that is a win in my book.

complicated to install, good reception, disappointed it does not automatically reprogram but remote works to accomplish this.
