Corpus Christi was indeed an excellent entry for the 2020 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. It is a disturbing look at reality. The central character in this Polish masterwork cannot fulfill his dream of becoming an ordained Catholic priest because he served time for murder. With all good intentions, he happenstances and lies to a parish priest that he is is ordained. His ministry is blatantly honest and forward, which eventually endears him to his parishioners. Eventually, though, his secret is revealed and he is sent back to his reformatory, where he was bullied and eventually faces his bully, whom he kills in a fight. His fellow prisoners knowing allow him to escape and again rather than face another murder crime. Cinema that is starkly realistic and unpatronizing is a showcase of brilliant acting, cinematically excellent and will move every viewer to evaluate whether our protagonist should have remained a priest. Corpus Christi is brilliant and memorable filmmaking.
