Extremely Comfortable but Lacking in Sound

Out of the box, the Corsair HS55 Stereo Wired Gaming Headset was self-explanatory. Plug it in and go. At a glance, they seem very well constructed and are lightweight which is very appealing when using or playing with them on for long periods of time.
When putting them on, you immediately notice the feel of the padding and extreme comfort. You can wear them for long periods of time and after a while, not even realize they are still on. The cushions are well constructed and should last a long time.
I don’t consider myself an audiophile but I know what I like. As for the sound for this headset, I felt like it was lacking. While playing, I wanted to turn up the volume but found that even at maximum, it wasn’t where I feel it should be. It’s loud but for the max setting, not loud enough. Although the treble and tones feel somewhat crisp, there is very little bass. I like to listen and feel the vibrations and, in this case, there really isn’t any. Additionally, the surround sound was not what you’d expect at this point in headset options. You know its good when you hear those footsteps behind you or coming from a certain direction, although they were there, it wasn’t distinct enough and left me feeling like I could have more.
Overall, the headset is okay for someone wanting a base or introductory set but for anyone that wants to be fully immersed, you can find better. It will get the job done, but for some, they will be left wanting more.

Excellent Clarity

For an inexpensive headset the Corsair HS55 delivers some high clarity audio. The key to the extremely clear audio is the 50mm neodymium audio drivers.
Neodymium drivers are among the best options for speakers. Neodymium magnets have more magnetic energy per unit of their weight than other magnets. Their sound definition and bass performance are eight times better than headphones with ferrite magnets. Neodymium is a rare lightweight metal. Originally, it was very difficult to use for audio purposes, and provided subpar quality sounds. Throughout the years with new technology
neodymium offers some of the highest quality options in audio devices. Couple that with a 50mm driver and you get a headphone that puts out extremely clear audio and great bass at higher volumes. Traditionally larger drivers generate greater volumes of air movement, which translates into better bass sounds. At lower audio volumes the bass isn't as prevalent, with this headphone because they do not come with an enhanced bass boost system. However, you can download any EQ app on your PC to be able to adjust these setting. The EQ I downloaded made an instant difference in the bass and overall sound, with a much richer experience. Unfortunately, you still need to adjust the audio volume to at least 50percent in order to really feel the Bass, but the rest of the audio is top notch at any volume. The headset doesn't offer surround sound, but the stereo sound does create some sense of direction.
Because the audio clarity is so high, and the bass isn't out of control at most volumes, this headset works great for most games. It keeps the important audio at the forefront and the explosions and bass sounds in the background. Which makes it easy to detect footsteps and other tell tale audio cues of approaching enemies.
The chat audio comes through perfect, nice and clear, with no distortions. The extended microphone arm bends so that you can angle it to the perfect spot for the best outgoing audio. The mic is omnidirectional, so you have a little bit of freedom when it comes to where to place the mic, instead of having to keep it directly in front of your mouth at all times.
There are only 2 controls on the headset, the volume dial behind the left ear cuff, and the mic's on/off control. Both controls are easy to find and use. There are no small buttons or tiny dials anywhere, so there is no need to take lessons in brail to learn how to find and use those types of controls. The mic lifts to activate the mute, and lowers to resume your chat. The volume dial is big enough to easily find, and has several large indents along the dial to be able to feel when you are actually turning it.
The audio cable is a little bit thick, but at least you know it's not going to break as easily as some of the thinner cables with other devices.
The headset can actually be used with any device that has a 3.5mm audio output jack. So it should work with pretty much every video game console out there and a lot of phones.
The cable is just under 6ft in length, so depending on where your pc is located, you might need an extension.
The soft leatherette ear pads and headband cushion make it so you can wear this headset for prolonged periods of time. The memory foam ear cuffs conform to petty much anything and work great
for people with eyeglasses.
Overall for the price this is a great pair of headphones, that can be used with virtually any device that has a 3.5mm plug: Pc's, controllers, consoles, phones and more??

Budget Friendly, But Balanced

The CORSAIR HS55 is a simple, but well balanced gaming headset. Although it's not as versatile as more expensive models, it meets the needs for gaming without sacrificing much.
[PROS]
- Comfortable to Use: The HS55 can be worn for an extended periods of time minimal discomfort. The memory foam cups form around my ears well, and I experience no pressure around my glasses.
- Great Audio: Sound levels for bass, treble, and midrange are good for the price. Given that these are entry level headphones, I did temper my expectations. Nevertheless, I didn't have to lower my expectations by very much.
- Clear Microphone: I was pleasantly surprised with how the mic sounded. As I gamed, others heard me clearly, and my voice was not muffled when I conducted my own tests.
[CONS]
My gripes with HS55 mainly center around preference. The audio cable nor is the microphone detachable. These are not major things, but they do help when storing or desiring the use the headset as normal headphones.
[CONCLUSION]
Basic isn't always bad and this headset proves it. Despite feeling like the HS55 would only meet the bare minimum in the important categories, I was surprised by how well it sounded and the clarity from the microphone.

Amazing microphone for the money

This headset is a mixed bag.
On the one hand, audio reproduction is decent without necessarily being stellar. Bass, in particular, is not really pronounced. Midrange and treble come through pretty well, but bass reproduction is pretty weak.
On the other, you'll be shocked by how good the microphone is. I didn't simply test this during gaming sessions; I used this headset for voice recording and was amazed how it outclassed headsets that cost more than twice as much. Audio quality on the microphone is simply fantastic. My voice comes through clear and crisp, with no ambient noise pickup or clipping. This is all the more impressive since the microphone keeps the mic at some distance from you, and has a somewhat limited range of motion from its mount in the left earphone.
Construction is great with this headset as well. The cups are not uncomfortable and the padding enables you to wear them for extended sessions without fatigue or discomfort. Because I'm an old man, I actually prefer the rotary volume wheel in the left earphone; I think you can get both more granular control over volume and more tactile response from volume wheels then you can with switches, and the volume control is in an easily accessible place. A mute button would have come in handy, but since this headset isn't geared towards teleconferencing I guess that omission was to be expected.
One cautionary note to people interested in picking this up - connection is only possible via 1/4 inch audio plug. This headset doesn't connect via USB and contains no USB adapter in the box. There is a stereo 1/4 inch adapter included, but check your equipment to make sure you have an easily acceptable 1/4 inch jack before buying.
All in all, this is great, cost-effective option for gamers and general users with a fantastic microphone. The only drawback is the weak bass reproduction.

Headset for gamers

Corsair is known within the gaming space as a leader in high quality products. This headset sets the bar and standard for other headsets that gamers seek.
The packaging is your standard Corsair packaging, open up and the headset is front and center. Simple plug in and ensure your drivers are update as with any headset.
Once on I noticed how comfortable they are in every aspect. I felt the ear cups breathing and not restricting in the heat. The material was light and breathable. That material likes the headband and melts away like a cloud on your head. I didn’t notice any odd pressure points pinching in the materials.
The quality of the headset seemed rigid and strong with its plastic combination. The included speakers provided superb sound production.
How did they preform? Well in a 4 hour play session in COD and Apex I was able to hear everything extra crisp and loud and clear. In intense battles no signs of cracking or popping. Everything was crystal clear that allowed me to hear tiny foot steps or battles around the corner that allowed me to correctly direct my strategies in game.
I love this headset and allows me to be in the game.

The sound quality for music wasn't good enough for me. I didn't get any volume and very little bass. I never tried the microphone so I don't know how well that works.
