I bought the K70 after a couple years with the Steelseries Apex Pro TKL, which failed 3 times during the time I owned it. After the 3rd failure (keys just stopped typing/lighting) I didn't bother getting it serviced or replaced again. I just tossed it in the trash and bought the K70. It has optical/mechanical switches that feel better when typing compared to the Apex Pro. Typical solid Corsair build quality. Detachable cable is a nice touch. I'm very pleased so far and recommend it highly over the Apex Pro. The K70 is $30 less expensive that the Apex Pro, too!

The CORSAIR - K70 RGB TKL Champion Series is an optical-mechanical keyboard built around an aluminum frame and very solid mechanical raised keys with individual RGB LED lighting. The clicking sound is very tolerable for most people and quite enjoyable for others who “grew-up” using some of the clickiest keyboards ever made when they were all mechanical. I particularly like TenKeyLess keyboards like this one that do not have the numeric pad, so it’s positioned more centrally since it’s narrower by a few inches. Another nice feature is the RGB lighting that can be customized through the Corsair App or turned off all together with the Competition switch that also disables all custom macros to level the playing field in multi-player competition games. I would say this keyboard still gives you a bit of an unfair advantage over other players with regular keyboards, because it is so fast and responsive with special technology that makes it up to 8x times faster processing of your keystrokes. The braided USB-C cable is 6 ft long and high quality, non-tangling, which makes it travel friendly as well. Additionally there is a volume button roller and a mute button right next to it, as well as multimedia buttons to control playback. The only aspect of this keyboard I wish it a bit different is its height - it is aprox. 1 ¼ “ to the top of the keys which could make it somewhat uncomfortable for some people if used for long periods of time.

Solid Gaming Keyboard Offering Good Value

Corsair's K70 RGB TKL Champion Series mechanical keyboard offers excellent build quality in a form factor meant to reduce the amount of space it takes up on your desk. The TKL stands for tenkeyless, meaning the usual number pad on the right side of a standard keyboard is not there. This results in more space for mouse movement. Anyone that plays games such as first person shooters will immediately understand the benefit here. Having plenty of space for mouse movement is crucial, and the K70 does a good job in increasing the amount of desk space available. Despite its small footprint, the K70 still maintains reasonable functionality outside of gaming thanks to the additional dedicated keys and full media controls. The Corsair K70 RGB TKL Champion Series offers 50 onboard profiles, and a profile lock button to disable macros, etc. Overall, I find the K70 to be a premium and well-built keyboard with no obvious quality control issues. The K70 comes with MX Cherry Red Speed switches. I'm not sure what I think of them as while the travel seems somewhat long, actuation is very short. A keypress registers at the top of its travel, making for very quick and light actuation. The performance is more than acceptable, but the "feel" may be loved by some and not so much by others. One caveat is that the switches are not hot-swappable, but that's not unreasonable by any means at the K70's pricepoint. Doubleshot PBT keycaps are used and they feel very solid and thicker than most keycaps, and offer more resistance to wearing out. The K70 features up to an 8000Hz polling rate -- how many times the computer checks for key inputs. Most keyboards offer 1000Hz, but the actual benefits of these features is arguable. In order to set it greater than 1000Hz, you'll need to install Corsair's iCue software, which will also give you additional RGB customization features. Keep in mind this will also use more CPU resources to attain higher polling rates, not to mention the overhead the software will add. RGB does not require the iCue software; the K70 This has full RGB backlighting with individually lit keys. You can change the built-in lighting effects by pressing Fn and cycling through the numbers row. In conclusion, I found that the Corsair K70 RGB TKL is a very good gaming keyboard. The Cherry MX Speed switches are very light and responsive. Its latency is also very low for a responsive gaming experience. All keys are macro-programmable, it has full RGB lighting, and it's very well-made.

    - I swear Corsair just doesn’t seem to fail when it comes to gaming keyboard this K70 TKL, is the new updated that fully support the Xbox series X/S consoles it’s very identical to its previous version mainly this just support the latest gaming console for xbox as an extra bonus - this keyboard feels premium just like majority of corsairs keyboard they make, the body is aluminum and it looks fantastic - the way it feels pressing these key caps just felt right, maybe it’s also has to do with corsair opx key switch, the version that I have are the grey version of switches as well, beyond the click noise on it set this felt great. - the back of the keyboard you have great support from rubber buttom and two legs that you can raise if you choose to, running USBC for plugging so a custom USBC cord would add that extra personality with your K70 keyboard - I love the extra media buttons at the top, a button for profiles, pausing and skipping movies, as well as volume rocker on the right side - at the back you do have an extra tournament mode switch, when flipping to this it the keyboard would turn to red and will disable micro keys you might have program, also an extra switch to lock it at the back while using tournament mode. while using it on PC you have up to 8000 pulling rate, and 1000 if you plug it on xbox series x/s - just like other company corsair also have their apps for customizing your RGB light and change certain settings for K70 TKL , I love this keyboard the premium look and the size is just perfect for my current layout, no complaints about the looks of the RGB it’s bright enough for me, I don’t find any issue of how they look I think it looks perfect - but i do have one complaint my set didn’t come with extra key caps and key cap puller not sure if this version doesn’t come with those? but I do find it weird that my set was just the keyboard, I think corsair just forgot, because of that imma need to put one star down, I mean I would really like to have that extra key caps I was suppose to have just like the other keyboard, considering this an expensive set kinda weird not having those extra things.

Best switches and caps on the market

Let’s get this out of the way, the Corsair K70 RGB TKL with Corsair Opx linear switches have the best key cap quality feel, travel, actuation and consistency of any keyboard I have ever used. I have had access to a lot of gaming keyboards over the years both purchased and provided for review and this keyboard has exceeded all of them. Only a few months ago I purchased a TKL wireless with Linear switches and this K70 with OPX and PBT double shot keycaps far surpasses it. Let’s cover the major highlights while also giving commentary on their more expensive competitor option: + The switches and keys are elevated from the keyboard body, which makes it much easier to clean with pressured air or a brush to clean the keyboard. Cheaper keyboards have a well that will accumulate gunk in that depresses area. + These OPX linear switches are amazing, fast, no resistance and CONSISTENT across all keys. The expensive competitor version uses some scissor springs in the big keys like shift, enter, tab, space bar that make the key press on those buttons on inconsistent. Even more frustrating was the feel was different among keyboards on the same SKU. I finally settled on a keyboard that didn’t feel as sticky on the SHIFT key. This K70 TKL had none of these issues, every key feels the same and the key travel is also deeper. + The RGB was brighter since this was wired and it uses USB-C. Competitor still uses micro-USB which is a joke. Corsair moved all their peripherals to USB-A to USB-C years ago which makes connecting and charging their devices much cleaner and easier. Also, Corsair iCUE has improved greatly and I already use it for my case fans and AIO cooler. Also since these are linear optical switches, you can adjust actuation point via software. + These switches are not as loud as springy blue type switches or even tactile/tooth clicky switches, but if you are a fast and avid typer they do make quite a bit more noise than their competitors with shorter keystrokes, as you bottom out the key it makes a decent amount of noise. In summary this is easily the best feeling keycap and switch I have ever used on a keyboard. The only negatives compared to what I am using from their major competitor is a wireless functionality and also BT connectivity which is the main reason I use it, for my work laptop when I work at home. If Corsair can step it up on the next K70 wireless they really got a winning product. Side note, the only difference I saw with previous K70 TKL was the switches, they changed from Cherry MX to Corsair OPX, but this version does not have key cap removers or extra key caps. It only comes with the braided USB-C cable.

    Be Light On Your Fingers!

TL;DR The Optical-Mechanical Corsair OPX keys are super, super light and activation is captured at about ¼ travel. A definite must for gaming, but can be really annoying for everyday use due to unintended key presses. During gaming, I did not notice this as negative or as an issue, but when doing some everyday word processing or the equivalent, it was apparent and annoying. Adding a wrist pad (not included) helped remedy the spurious inputs. If you have “heavy hands” or like to rest your fingers on the keyboard, get a wrist pad. This is a fantastic keyboard overall. I like how the aluminum base flows through the entire keyboard and doesn’t act like a catch basin for dust, dirt and remnants of junk food. Like my other Corsair keyboards, it is very easy to clean. The keys do have a satisfying click/clack under normal finger pressure presses and can obviously get louder if you pound on them. Because the keys activate so fast with little key actuation, I had to teach myself to keep my fingers light over the keyboard and not rest them like I normally do. I think this is only going to be a problem during non-gaming situations, or maybe you are normally light with your fingers. I did find that adding a keyboard wrist rest pad made things a lot better and I wasn’t accidentally pushing down keys anymore. It doesn’t come with one in the box, so you’ll have to buy it separately. Gaming with the K70 with the OPX switches makes gaming feel seamless; there was never a question if a key I hit registered to perform an action on any game. As I type this review on the K70, I’ve streamed the semicolon across the page numerous times. Using Corsair's iCUE software, you can create macros and customize lighting as with the other Corsair keyboard models. Once you have established those settings, you can “lock” those settings with a simple switch on the keyboard; this will allow you to take your K70 with you wherever you go and preserve those settings, even if you plug into another computer. As long as it’s in a locked state, nothing can change its settings after the fact. Then you can bring your keyboard with you wherever your travels take you (and the cable is detachable, too). It kind of reminds me a lot about how I used to bring my custom Xbox controller to a friends’ house; I had it all dialed in with my preferences, and this keyboard is no different. And with its TKL form factor, it’s the perfect balance of size and portability.

The Corsair K70 RGB TKL Champion series is Corsair’s latest iteration of this keyboard. Being labeled as TKL or tenkeyless, this keyboard dispenses with the numeric keypad found in most full sized keyboards. Think laptop style keyboard. This of course has the advantage of being smaller and more portable. And being RGB means having custom colors for this keyboard which gamers like. This keyboard which is roughly 70% the size of a regular keyboard is made of metal (aluminum) and plastic making is a durable keyboard. It also boasts of PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) keycaps which is reportedly better than ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) keycaps. While the company boasts that it can handle millions of keystrokes, there is no way for me to verify that claim. But it is generally accepted by the gaming industry that PBT keycaps are much more durable than ABS keycaps. So I’ll just take the company’s for it. As mentioned in earlier, it is an RGB lit keyboard. There are controls on top of the keyboard to toggle the lights. Likewise there is software available to download should you want further customization. And you are not limited to the lights but also you are able to program macros for this keyboard if you use this software. One thing I like about his keyboard is that it doesn’t automatically download the software unlike competing brands. Do note this keyboard comes in various Cherry MX configurations namely Cherry MX Speed, MX Red, MX Blue and MX Silent. And there is nothing on the box that indicates which keyboard type you have. You have to remove a keycap and check the exposed keyswitch. My unit "seems" to be the Cherry Silent MX meaning this is suited for gaming and timing. And while I am no expert on keyboards, the unit I have is more quite than my son’s other branded keyboard but still louder compared to laptop keyboards. Also notice on top of the keyboard are multimedia controls and even a scroll bar for volume. These controls can also be configured via software. Again I am a casual user/gamer so I prefer not to. But to emphasize the other strengths of this keyboard, there is a toggle switch to disable macros and even the lights. This is beneficial for serious gamers who go on competing so as to level the playing field. Overall this is a very capable keyboard and IMO worth its price. I would definitely recommend this if you are in the market for a gaming keyboard.

I want to like this keyboard, but I can't. The look of the keyboard is great. The construction is very solid. You can tell this is a quality keyboard from the moment that you take it out of the box. It feels and looks beautiful. When you plug it in, the colors of the backlight are outstanding. The software to control the lighting is pretty easy to figure out and lets you create your look. They keys have a nice deep travel to them. There is that familiar click of a mechanical keyboard. The keys light up and show both the primary key and the secondary shifted function. So why can't I like it? The & key for one. Since I do not use the key often I need to cheat to see what shift function it is. I could not find it. I had to look at another keyboard to see that shift+7 gives me the &. I do not know who decided to use this font, but it looks like a lock and not a &. The keyboard is LOUD. Not just mechanical clicky loud, but a hollow echoing loud that becomes unenjoyable to me. I tried it on multiple surfaces thinking I was getting a echo from my key tray. Nope, solid wood was just as loud. The keys, while they have nice travel there is something about the spacing I can not get use to. I keep hitting the keys around my target key on the upstroke. This registers the key press and makes for some really bad typing. Worse than my normal bad typing. I do have large hands, but very few keyboards have I had this issue with. I still say take it for a test drive and see what you think. I can not get past the loudness and the easy of clicking many keys at once. I could get past the &, but the rest just makes it a no go for me.

Pretty good keyboard. Coming from a cooler master master key pro S (brown switches). Weird to get used to cause the linear switch needs so little force, but i do notice I can type faster on this keyboard. Volume wheel and media switches are a nice add in. Icue software is alright, but way better than the coolermaster one. No issues so far.

This is definitely a love it or hate it switch type for some people. The opx switches take getting used to, especially if you’re coming from mx blues or browns and if you’re like me, you’re used to resting your fingers on the keys. That’s something that takes getting used to but once you do, this board is a delight to use for gaming and typing. Less travel distance for the switch means faster response times and while some people may disagree with me, I can personally tell a difference in my responses during gaming sessions. Only thing preventing a 5 star rating is the lack of a wrist rest included with the packaging. Easily fixed by a third party mount though.
