I really enjoyed this show when it was on! The jokes were funny and original; plus the cast was lovable. At the time, it was very popular. Now when I re-watch the DVDs, I find it far less exciting. The jokes only revolve around… you know… bed deeds. Those are cheap and simple to write. It’s easy to get a laugh when you use dirty words. ALL sitcoms do that now! But the reason the show is so funny is because it’s base on the writer’s actual relationship. Good jokes come from real life. And then there are phrases, such as the “Giggle Loop” or "people-phobia" that you’ll find yourself repeating in real life. “The Girl with Two…” is probably the best episode of the season. Jeff tries to chat up a girl, only to realize that she doesn’t speak English. And since he has a habit of saying stupid things, it could work in his favor. He accidentally said he collects women’s ears in bucket. The first episode, on how Steve and Susan meet, kind of hints at Steve’s later behavior in succeeding seasons. This is a fantastic show. Jeffrey by far is the funniest character. He always has the best lines. He’s always ready with some gimmick about his mother, accidental word slippage, or advice that ends up with more trouble rather than solutions. Any joke involving him will get a laugh. Susan, I feel, is a bit undeveloped. She’s always described as the sensible one who makes lists, yet she is never seen making lists! Patrick is very different from the usual womanizing male character. He has one goal – and he doesn’t care if the woman sucks at it. Sally is great! She seems to suffer from low self-esteem, but she is definitely the most attractive of the female cast. And she always gains a new phobia! Although I like Jane, I don’t usually care for the stereotypical “stupid” character. It’s too unrealistic to find funny. But she does have a few ideas, such as “bi-vegetarianism.” Of course, this series proves how much British men think about size. Coupling mentions it a lot! Expect it to come up repeatedly. At least American men can talk about something else besides their size!
