Extremely well-acted, but too coincidental

Crash unfairly received the Best Picture Academy Award in 2005. In my opinion, it was actually the weakest of the films that were nominated, but the greatest injustice was the defeat of Ang Lee's controversial cowboy forbidden love story "Brokeback Mountain". Crash's win seems like an excuse to avoid giving the Oscar to the movie about the cowboy love story by instead giving it to the film about racism. It's just a cop-out in my view.
In any case, Crash still has some things going for it, and those things that work in the film work very well. Paul Haggis is a very gifted director, and his work here is quite noteworthy. The film looks great, and there is a gritty yet lyrical quality to the look of it.
The acting is fantastic. The cast is about as A-List as an ensemble piece like this can get. Their participation (from Don Cheadle to Brendan Fraser) made the msking of this film possible, and it still took about two years to get made. It must be noted that this was a passion project for Haggis, which is obvious when one is viewing the film. I will not mention the acting, which is uniformly brilliant, save for one exception. The actor who gathered the most praise for this film is Matt Dillon, who plays a racist white cop. His father is struggling with urinary infections, and thus Dillon's character is shown both sympathetically in his struggles to help his father cope and negatively when he harrasses Terence Howard and Thandie Newton after pulling them over, and even molests Newton. The most incredulous part of the plot comes when less than two days after Dillon molested Newton, he must rescue her from her overturned vehicle before the leaking gas catches fire and blows up the car with her in it. It's a very powerful scene, but also somewhat ridiculous in its coincidence.
The connections that are developped between all of the characters in the film take away some of its credibility storywise. However, the acting and direction are so good it's hard not to forgive these issues. Crash is a worthy film, though it tends to be overrated. However, since most people tend to really like it, you probably will too.

Very, very good movie

This is just a very good low budget film that tries to get the point across that no one is all good and no one is all bad. And it does that well and cleverly. Sure, it is Hollywood in that the number of coincidences is not that likley and the multiple parallel stories prevents a lot of character development, but it is still great.
Its biggest problem is not in the movie itself, but in all the resentment it got because it won the Academy Awards that some people with a political agenda thought were basically owed to Brokeback Mountain, a far worse movie.

One of the Best Movies Ever

This movie is one of the best overall movies I have ever seen. Not only is the movie entertaining, but it searches into social aspects of life. It delves into racial stereotypes, social class issues, and problems with the American society in general. The acting is great and the plot is even better. Each part of the movie has a new twist that keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering why this happened and what will happen next.

this is the most touching movie that i have ever seen. its all about how people from different walks of life 'crash' into each other every day and what happens when their views, cultures, and beliefs clash and what happens as a society. it is very touching. you will laugh, cry, and be moved. very good acting and very good story line and characters. this is a recommended movie in many of my cultural college classes.

A movie that I think is very true. You never know who you're going to come to rely on in life. A very touching movie about how lives intertwine with strangers, everyday stereotypes and how our stereotypes can confront us later. This is really one of my favorite movies and I strongly recommend!
As a side note my parents watched this movie and turned it off half way through. You have to watch the whole thing!!

This movie peaks every emotion with its brilliant storyline, stellar cast, and overall performances. This star studded cast includes Thandie Newton, Ryan Phillippe, Terrence Howard, and Matt Dillon plus more! They all hold up to their status and present a movie entirely unexpected from the judging of its cover. Be prepared to laugh and cry. Recommended for mature audiences.

I really liked this movie in theaters, and again when I bought it on DVD. The actors do a great job, the scenes are well setup, the scenes flow, and the plot makes sense. The moral of the story comes out slowly (in most cases). However, after watching it a few times, it loses some of its value as a lot of the power is solely on its message, not so much on the stories. Rewatching diminishes, but if you haven't seen it you'll enjoy it.

If you can watch this movie and see the true America that we live in. The America that has people really thinking that racism doesn't exist, but yet in still do racist things. Powerful performance from this all-star cast, even new comer Ludacris did his thing and held his on against all the other actors...Greatness

Crash is a good movie and i thought that this movie showed people what other race do to each other and in the long run it will bit them in the back and haunt them for a long period of time. The fact that it did win best picture is not just because of the performance of the actors but because of what the movie showed hot people treat each other.

I rented this movie when it came out on dvd and ended up watching it 5 different times in the week I had it, all with different friends. This movie was full of emotion and made the viewer feel the same way. This movie makes my top 10 list and is a serious contender for the #1 spot.

This movie has a very cool flow to it. It reminds me of Amorres Perros (another great movie) where it interweaves tales of all these peoples lives. It is neat how they all meet somehow. Well made film techniques and lighting was great! I would recommend this film to everyone.

I truely love this movie. I shows how some people treat people and how they can overcome these real life situations...kinda sad how there are people like this out in this world...but true. I believe this movie can change the hearts and souls of many.

The story seemed very fragmented when it started, but appearances are decieving. I was so interested in figuring out how all these people fit together, I forgot the time. The movie ended just after I figured out how they all intertwined.

This was a great movie that involved several plots that intertwined to eventually involve all the characters involved. It's good, but you have to pay attention or you might miss something!
