Though there are better cards out there for the price, this one is not off the mark. Plus the desktop plug in module are a nice touch.

    Shocked to see in-store

For the last year/year and a half - I have been wondering why BestBuy no longer stocked soundcards (other than that Diamond PCI - which is... junk) in store. Just this past weekend I was in my local best-buy store and noticed this on the shelf. Snagged it up as fast as I could. My previous Desktop had an old X-fi extreme gamer pci card. So, when I purchased a new desktop last year - I was quite saddened to learn that there were no PCI slots. So, ever since then I've been watching and waiting to grab a comparable PCI-e card. The Sound Blaster Zx card is much better than my old card, and vastly superior to the on-board audio in my desktop. I forgot how spoiled I was - my music has once again come alive. Works great in Win10, installation was a snap (literally). Anyone who has to settle for on-board audio - shouldn't. Get this card! You won't be sorry!

    Sound Blaster zx

I have an older computer and upgraded to windows 10. Big mistake for an older computer. I love the Creative Sound Blaster's. I had an old Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 zs card which does not work on Windows 10. Creative does not have a download to support the card on Windows 10. I purchased the Sound Blaster zx and the install disk does not have Windows 10 and you have to go to Creative web site and download the Windows 10 for the installation. Ease installation. zx card works well with Windows 10. I have a 7.1 sound system and the zx will only support 5.1 sound. zx card was on sale at Best Buy so it was a no brainer to upgrade my Creative Sound Blaster sound card.

My computers onboard sound was lacking in many areas. I wanted the ability to really fine tune the sound so started looking at sound cards. Many computers these days have built in sound to the motherboard and are not necessary. However if you're an audiophile like myself, you want more. This card works great and has given me no problems. If you can pick up one at a good price I recommend it. It will also drive your larger headphones that require more power. The only thing I didn't like about this card was the bright red light that can't be controlled and there were some driver complications in the beginning but was able to sort them out.

looks good but that horse won't run

bought this from Best Buy store prices and Amazon were pretty even so I got it. using it to replace the onboard audio which won't configure to the 5.1 vizio sound bar. installs easy like all other cards. computer (win10 64b) picks it up and goes with it. the computer will find an updated driver no problem. newest driver from creative works also. all the following are using the spdif output/input (optical) from the card to the vizio. now the problems set the win10 audio control to creative z speakers as default and after setting options in creative control software (pro sound) you can get 5.1 surround on the vizio. no volume control except the media your using (if it has volume control and then not really good control). and still half of the controls from pro stupid/studio don't work. go back to win10 audio control and set creative z spdif as default. go pro(perfectly rancid object) studio mess with the lights and screen buttons you get sound from vizio with volume control but nothing else works at all. with just the drivers in place at first start after install the sound is good but just stereo kindof. the spdif signal carries the 5.1&7.1 compressed signals. the vizio has the dolby and DTS's built in but pro stupid/studio can't pass the signal. I've chatted twice with creative and sent two tech support messages. I think the hardware is good hence 2 stars but software ain't worth beans. the best hardware in the world isn't any use without the software to control it. this is like going out buying a Ferrari and putting a Yugo engine in it, looks great but that horse won't run

Works in an Older PC, Not a New One

I'm in the process of assembling a new high end i7 PC with Windows 10. I wanted to have an optical audio input which the motherboard didn't have. 100% of the components are brand new, SSD C: drive, the works. The PC will not boot with this card installed. Windows 10 boots fine without the card. Creative suggested trying it in an older PC so I put it in an 8-year old Windows 7 PC that I have. Seems to work fine in it. Doesn't really help me. Probably a good card if you are upgrading an older PC. I wouldn't use it in a new PC.

Very Poor Sound Quality from Speakers

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Let me begin by saying I would give this card a lower rating if possible, and I do have some knowledge about computers as I build my own. I purchased this card earlier today. When I first installed it in my computer. it would not boot. After a lot of trouble, and re-seating various items on the motherboard, I finally figured out the card did not like the PCIe slot it was in. After moving it to a different PCIe slot, the computer finally booted just fine. Downloaded the entire software package from Creative and installed without any problems. Rebooted the computer as directed, and started iTunes to make sure the speakers worked. Boy was I surprised at the quality of the sound. It was very distorted, and there was a lot of hissing and crackling. Messed with the setting inside the Creative Control Panel, and there was no improvement in the sound quality. However, with headphones plugged in, the sound was perfect. There was no distortion or any other problems. So I downloaded the PAX Drivers, thinking these would be better than than the Creative drivers, because Creative has historically made really bad drivers. While the PAX drivers were better, the sound was still pretty bad. The onboard sound from the motherboard was significantly better. After searching on the internet, it seems this is a problem that a lot of people are having with this card. I will be returning it tomorrow.

Stopped working after few weeks , card didn't burn out , software issue. per foums this been going on .Reinstalled software 3x, still didnt work. reseated aswell, still a no go. Contacted Creative 2/16/16 , says it will take 1-2 days for a replay. no reply yet . Card is great when its working, the volume control for me is worth it, at the moment i had to re enable onboard sound, using voulume control with that , lol hopefuly some day / some year they will figured it out.

I posted a review a while back, but for reason it didn't get posted, so I'll give this sound card another review, this card sounds a whole lot better than my on-board DELL AUDIO, I had to go into my BIOS to disable the on-board Realtek sound, this card has lot more features works great and sound very professional, with plenty of audio options to use, I'm giving this card a 5 Star**** don't know why it wasn't given a 5 Star before.
