If you mobo does not have a digital audio output, this is the best solution. I have it paired with a Vmoda M100 and I cannot complain, it is a great sound boost.

This sound card offered me what I needed for 5.1 / 7.1 sound out of my computer to my receiver for streaming. external was my only option because my motherboard rejected every internal card I tried.

For the price, this is probably one of the better DAC/AMP combo's I have owned, especially how versatile it is in regards to devices it can be used with.

Returned immediately. This unit is not self powered and requires constant power to work. I wanted to use as a DAC with my portable media player.

At first I was like this, what are they trying to pull trying to sell $150 item for $75. Then it occurred to me, it's one of those make no sense to me Amazon moment. I really don't get that, but I digress. At least you are not hearing me talk about my background as if that's going to do something different. Anyway, this product does not come with a battery built in. But the E5 does and costs more, and the battery in E5 is like 3800mA capacity. However, when I used a Best Buy house brand Insignia 5000mA power bank the G5 did not work. So I had to connect to the windows 7 computer to figure out if the G5 was ok. Anyway, at first the G5 was not ok. Apparently you have to kind of put on the software developer hat to figure out how things might work. Basically, software guys are always overworked with too much on their plate to do any sort of system integrated testing. It's true. So there I was thinking, somethings gotta work cause, software guys don't turn in unfinished homework assignment. Then I went into the menus and started clicking on things like menu and options. And low and behold some of the demo samples sounded through the G5. However, one time I had set surround parameters in one menu and tried to select stereo in another menu and I started hearing helicopter noises. Next I did what any sensible person would and unplugged and restarted the G5. Basically when I turned of all special features and went with stereo, the sound came through nicely. Apparently the G5 does not have a self conscience to recognize if something is not setup right. G5 never did say it had AI built in. Anyway, about that power bank issue, I grabbed a bigger capacity like 10000mA power bank and I was able to untether from the computer and use the amp without compromise; unless carrying a big old power bank is a compromise.

Good add on soundcard for my PC and Playstation 3

The sound device is easy to use. It does make some noticeable improvement when I connected with my headphone and PC at home. It is doing fine with my PS3 that connected with an amplifier. The design of this device is OK as the volume knob runs smooth. The only two things i really don't like is I need a PC to configure the sound effect setup and it has some small noise when I connect the USB power with the PS3 USB ports. I need to connect the power with the seperate power source. The device is good for use as an headphone amplifier and as an DAC that connect to the common stereo amplifier.

Sounds good but mic quality isn't great

This sounds great! I think this is more geared to laptop users as you can really tell the difference in sound quality. SBX works wonderful and there are a lot of features to this device. To get the 192khz you have to choose direct stereo. The highest rate you can use with enhancements is 24 bit 96khz sadly, but I think you'd be hard pressed to tell any difference between the 96khz and 192khz. My main problem with this is that the microphone quality on this sounds tiny and compressed. I have the Sound Blaster E1 which sounds wide and full, night and day difference. So I wouldn't use your mic through this if you plan on streaming or recording games but it'll work fine for communicating with those you game with.
