Accurate representation of the Doyle's vision

This game was an entertaining step into the world of Sherlock Holmes. You take on the role of Sherlock as he attempts to decipher a series of increasingly difficult cases, using every tool at his disposal from forensics, interrogation, evidence gathering, breaking and entering, and above all else deductive reasoning. I can't say much about the individual cases without giving things away, but each one is well composed and things rarely proceed the way you expect. The story takes you all over Victorian London and the surrounding country side as you work out who done it, but Scotland Yard and 221 B Baker Street feature prominently. The voice acting, graphics, cast of characters, and soundtrack all mix together to create a compelling adaptation of Sherlock's world. Unfortunately the game play can border on monotonous and the more action oriented activities are handled poorly. If you loved L.A. Noire you will adore this game. It is a cerebral experience and a great representation of the classic detective.

    Great Game

This was my first experience with the Holmes series, after reading reviews I was interested in this game. After picking it up I found myself still playing 5 hours later. This is a great game to play with a significant other as you will find yourselves discussing clues and scenarios as you play through. Graphically this game is gorgeous, voice acting is believable and doesn't feel forced. My negative comments for this game would be you spend a decent amount of time loading going back and forth to get everything for a specific case, and if you are looking for an action packed game this is not it.

I Like A Good Mystery, But...

I've always been a fan of point and click games as well as a good mystery. There are multiple cases with different subject matter so the variety isn't bad...it's not great either. It can be fairly short as a game all around too depending on how clever you are. And replay value is pretty low. I would categorize this mostly as a time killer.

I like the game play and love the concept. I like logic games that make you think and put clues and puzzles together and that what this game is all about. The only thing is there are no "boss fights" or "enemies" but it makes sense with the controls and game play. I like the re-play value in that there are different outcomes and endings you can get depending on how many clues you find and other factors.

Best Sherlock game on console since the 3DO

Sherlock Holmes games on console have not had a huge presence since the 16 and 32 bit era (see Consulting Detective for Sega CD & Turbo CD - Lost Files on 3DO) but what was available at the time was not too terrible. This new take on the Scotland Yard detective is a good game with an interesting concept. Rough around the edges, but good enough for some wannabe detectives out there.

Even if you don't like sherlock holmes, and enjoy a good mystery. Then this is the game for you. You have to choose from many people who committed the crime and you have to sole the murder like being a real CSI detective.

    Very Good game

The most interesting thing about this game is how they handle solving cases. Video games historically have been very binary, meaning you either do something or you don't, you click yes or no, etc. It's honestly got to be challenging to devise a non-binary gameplay system for a game, but they did a good job. Clues are gathered on each case, and you don't have to gather them all in order to make a conclusion on the guilty party. However, the more clues you gather, the more options you have when making that decision. Decisions are guided by a deduction board. Clues that corroborate other clues make for more logical and factual decisions. If you don't gather enough clues, you may end up being uncertain or guessing on certain aspects of the case. It really makes you feel smart when you've done your research and have gathered enough clues to feel confident that you've got it right. That's the whole crux of the intention of a game like this and they nailed it.

I'm not an avid video gamer so I went with a game I though would be more thinking and less actual control play. This was exactly what I was looking for so I would recommend this to a friend.

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments is the type game that can be broken up into manageable chunks in between your other gaming sessions. If you’re a fan of Sherlock Holmes or mysteries in general, I can’t recommend this one enough. It's the kind of game that will really make you think. If you like a quirky game to add to your game library every now and then… this one is as good as any. The graphics look amazing on PS4.

Before I played the game I reviewed the trophies you could receive...this was a mistake because it kind of gives the game away. The game is essentially running around and finding things that are highlighted on the screen. Not terrible, but not very challenging.

Im kinda a sucker for buying Sherlock Holmes games, then never playing them because they do not life up to potential. This on is awesome. I am not finished yet, but love the deduction system in solving crimes. Having way more fun with it than other holiday blockbusters.
