I will completely honest, I could not make it through a half hour of this movie so my review is not the best. It was just missing something that I cannot put my finger on but to me it was just bad.

It's not a traditional ghost story or what the mind envisions as a traditional horror film, but it's very good. It's honestly more akin to being a true twisted romance film that has some ghost/horror settings. It has a lot of the Guillermo del Toro staples, so if you're a fan of his you'll enjoy this film. Also, if you've ever seen The Haunting, I'd say they're very similar films so take from that what you will.

    Good Movie, Poorly Marketed

This movie is really good at being the type of movie that it is. What I mean by that is that this is a period-piece romance/thriller. It is not a horror movie in the generic sense that multiple people will die in horrific ways with lots of gore and stuff. Instead its more of a murder mystery with some ghosts mixed in. One of the opening lines is even something towards the effect that "This is not a ghost story." The studio did a poor job representing this film which lead to it not doing too well in theatres. Its definitely a must if you enjoy del Toro movies. A nice fusion of the beautiful and the grotesque.

Another Solid Film from Guillermo Del Toro

Guillermo Del Toro is personally one of my favorite filmmakers, and one of the best directors working right now. I'm always looking forward to his movies, and have yet to be disappointed by one. Crimson Peak is another great film from him, and is a movie that in my opinion is incredibly underrated and overlooked. Would definitely recommend picking this one up.

    A really unique horror movie

I'll start out by saying I don't like horror movies. I find the plots dry and boring, and the blood and gore usually seems to over power the plots. Fortunately, this movie is directed by Guillermo del toro, so it is anything but generic! This is going right next to the Babadook in terms of uniqueness and suspense. The story is great with solid actors, and the set pieces are AMAZING. If you love Guillermo's work pick it up, if you love horror, pick it up. If your on the fence, PICK IT UP. You wont be disappointed!

    More murder-mystery than ghost story.

Guillermo Del Toro has become synonymous with a brand of horror that melds fantasy, wonder and disturbing imagery. He has not failed to deliver with "Crimson Peak". When Edith's father dies under mysterious circumstances, she elopes with his equally mysterious business partner. As soon as she arrives at his home in a faraway land, Edith is taunted by visions of the dead and she soon discovers that her marriage isn't idyllic as it may seem. "Crimson Peak" is a slow burn and I'm always underwhelmed by Mia Wasikowska's subdued performances, but that doesn't keep it from being an interesting film. More than anything, "Crimson Peak" is a visual treat fantastic production design and special effects. Don't be fooled by the film's marketing, however. This is much less a ghost story than it is a murder mystery with ghosts waiting in the wings for most of the film.

I would give this a 4.5 if I could. The images in this movie were very captivating, and set a wonderful mood for things ghostly. To be honest I was more interested in the scenery than the story. The acting was nice, but I thought the story was somewhat unemotional. Perhaps something was lost in translation.

Saw "Crimson Peak" in the theater. If you like a good Gothic romance, you'll love this movie. Of course, every good Gothic tale includes a dark secret and, perhaps, a ghost or two but there is nothing frightening here. It's pure magic. The sets, the costumes, the cinematography are stunning. This movie is very creepy. It's kind of a love story, but not exactly. You won't be terrified, but you will like it if you enjoy creepy movies with haunted houses and stuff.
