Guillermo del Toro proves that he is not only a master of gorgeous cinema but also a master of Gothic Romance. The influences of Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley and H.P. Lovecraft are apparent in del Toro's latest film. The camera, effects (especially practical), his vibrant color palette, story and talented actors and actress all come together and make a beautiful Gothic romance.

I SAW THIS MOVIE WHILE ON VACATION & WANTED TO OWN IT, SO I COULD WATCH IT AGAIN - TO SEE WHAT I MISSED THE 1ST TIME. THE SPECIAL EFFECTS ARE SCARY . I THINK IT CAN BE DIVIDED INTO 3 PARTS, THE BEGINNING IS SORT OF BORING, THE MIDDLE IS BLOODY & IN THE END EVERYONE TRIES TO KILL EVERYONE ELSE, BUT IT IS WORTH IT FOR THE GHOULISH SPECIAL EFFECTS.

Fans of Guillermo del Toro will probably like this rather silly Gothic tale. It's mostly worth watching for the incredible sets and photography. Jessica Chastain is usually better than the material and that is almost the case here, although she seems a bit miscast. All the red oozing out of the ground and snow looks like a strawberry or raspberry snow cone!

This is classic Del Toro, with grand sets, performances and perfect casting. I was let down by the twist being what I figured it was early on, which wasn't a twist for me. The thrill of this movie is Jessica Chastain, who devours every line and performance... But really, for a film promoted as haunting, it didn't scare me at all, too much about Casper....

This movie is very twisted. It has some elements some may fine offensive, I felt it added to how sick and evil humanity can be. I also felt it showed what can happen when children are neglected, how it continues to affect them through their adult lives. This movie is a good horror flick. It has a dark and edgy storyline. This movie is not one you can watch and not pay attention. Things from the past are very pertinent to what is currently happening to the characters. All-in-all a dark and twisted horror film with great acting.

This is an incredibly visually rich film. But plot wise I kept expecting the movie to turn a corn and ramp up for the finale, but the movie never really does that. Maybe I just went in expecting a different film then what Guillermo Del Toro wanted to make, but the film felt a little slow to me. But I still enjoyed it for what it is.

OK. First thing to say about Crimson Peak is that it's not the most original story. It's del Toro's take on stories like Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, and other gothic fairy tale romances. Even though it's a very archetypal story, good lord is it beautiful and steeped in atmosphere. I also can't think of a better cast for the characters.

There was not a lot of hype about this film, but if you are a fan of romantic historical movies than this is a must see. There is a twist in that it is a thriller, yet hauntingly beautiful. The filmography is so great. I just love watching these types of movies. They tried to sell it as a horror film by throwing some ghosts in there, that really didn't need to be scary like they were but I suspect that was for the previews to get men to go watch it. if you can look past that, you won't be disappointed.

Guillermo Del Toro continues his legacy of gothic horror (Devil's Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth) with Crimson Peak. While not as strong as his previous efforts, the atmosphere oozes with dread and menace. The use of color also plays an important part. The great A/V quality on the Blu-ray make those colors and sound pop off the screen!

Top notch sets, costumes, all just gorgeous, breathtaking. This is a Gothic Romance and true to that formula. The marketing for this movie did it a disservice billing it as 'horror' it is a beautiful example of Gothic Romance where a young innocent woman takes a journey of self discovery through love, fear and turmoil.

For horror, sci-fi, fantasy, dramatic effect with great graphics technology, this is a very good movie which my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed. Kind of twist off the beaten path of this genre but captures your imagination and entertains you as well. I recommend it and Mia is as usual her wonderful actress self.

I liked this movie very much, I found it macabre, yet fun and creative, but I would not put it up against the best of Guillermo Del Toro's other movies, like Devil's Back Bone and Pan's Labyrinth, to name a couple, which are amazing. I did enjoyed Crimson Peak it just wasn't as impressive as his other efforts.

As with all Guillermo Del Toro movies, the picture is everything. Crimson Peak is definitely a must on blu ray. The colors and contrasts are vivid and clear. The sound is proportional to each scene whether someone is screaming (which they do a lot in his movies) or a ghost is moaning. The extras are very interesting and worth watching as they show you the behind the scenes of choosing the house, location, make-up and creature creation, and building the sets.

I think the trailers for this movie could have potentially misled people into thinking this film was a horror movie, and while it does have elements of that genre, ultimately I think of it as a gothic romance, a genre that hasn't seen too much action recently. The film itself is gorgeous and worth watching. The supplemental features are plentiful, one of the better offerings I've seen recently, making for a great package for home viewing.

If taken within the context of gothic horror, then I think this is very good outing in that respect. There are some issues with the plot, but overall it has the requisite mood for a good gothic horror film. Just don't go into it expecting jump scares or the next Eli Roth gross out film.

This is one of the better modern horror movies out there. The only downside is that the digital copy slip was not in the case even though it is advertised as having one! This was a bummer because I watch most of my movies through apps on my various devices. Still a great movie.

Some friends told me about this movie. I thought it might be fun for Halloween... it's a turn of the century movie about ghosts, love, betrayal, etc. I was surprised at how well made the movie is. The acting is great. The costumes and the sets are incredible. The ghosts are truly special. It held my interest throughout. If a Gothic-style romance story involving ghosts sounds interesting to you, you'll love this movie!

Though it did poorly in the theaters this movie is a love letter to fans of the classic Hollywood Horror films. Highly gothic and dripping with atmosphere there are no cheap scares just simmering tension. Great set design and a wonderful cast round out this solid movie.

This is a great Gothic romance with horror elements. It's more subdued than the trailers presented it as, but it has great performances, great style, and great direction. Recommended for fans of Wuthering Heights and other horror tales presented as something else.

Jessica Chastain is among the best actresses in the business. (To find out more reasons why, I heartily recommend "Zero Dark Thirty.") And her ample skills are on display in this Gothic thriller, which is beautifully photographed to boot. Sit back, relax and enjoy.
