Not what I expected, but still a pleasant surprise. A ghost story period piece that is not full of scare effects but is well told and is still creepy in more of an artistic way.

When I first saw the trailer I was put off thinking this was just a lame romance movie, when in fact it is great Gothic romance horror/ghost story. well worth the watch...

Del Toro is a master at his craft and his latest film just keeps adding to his legacy. Not only is this film superbly acted but the sets, costumes, and story hit on all cylinders. It's pegged a little more towards a chilling thriller but does have its scary moments. Perfect for a night in!

Very creepy & horrifying movie. Recommended to all horror fans. Beautiful photography & special effects. Great cast living in a creepy house with holes in the walls/roof, bloody grounds around the house & a ghost. After viewing ask yourself if you would live in a house like this!?!

Del Toro is at his height of directing showing his imagery is vivid and full of vibrant use of colors. Thr stark sense and use of red in the film is very well done and not overkill. If you love the directors work already, just watch it for a new and string lead of characters.

watching the trailers for this movie made me think this movie would be a certain way. this movie was a lot different than i had expected. i still did enjoy this movie.

I am a big fan of period pieces and really enjoyed this film. Great sets and costuming. It's a creepy film at times but I didn't think was very scary. It's a fun story.

This movie has a really great set up, but unfortunately failed to deliver. As always with Del Toro, the sets and cinematography are gorgeous. There are genuinely creepy moments and some great special effects. The MC starts out extremely compelling. But the creepy factor dies out about midway through, the MC falls victim to a lot of boring tropes, there are no twists you can't expect, and ultimately the ending left us wondering if that was really all there was to the movie. A real disappointment.

There are a depressingly few films which capture the feel and spirit of gothic literature. There are also few people who even understand what this means and the distinction. Crimson Peak is a masterpiece. A true one, and not a film given praise for mondless reasons.

The story behind this movie is what keeps it alive but if you are going in expecting for a scary movie you should pass. It's more of a live story/ murder mystery.

My oldest wanted to see this when it was in theaters, but he didn't get to go see it. This week it was on sale for $10 so he picked it up. He loves horror movies.

This is another movie we missed in theaters, but couldn't wait to watch on video. It was great, and Best Buy's delivery was wonderful as well. Very satisfied.

Visually this movie is great - it has wonderfully creepy cinematography, but it's a predictable storyline. The acting is decent and overall a good movie.

Probably too slow for many horror fans who grew up on Freddy and Jason, but give this movie credit for trying to bring an element of suspense into the genre.

This was a decent mix of romance/horror. It was a romantic tale with the hint of a ghost story. Del Toro creates another beautifully filmed eerie atmosphere.

This movie was very entertaining. The creepiness was well balanced with the love story. There were lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing and never bored. The end was not what I thought it was going to be. I will be watching this movie over and over.

Del Toro made a film that doesn't exactly commit to being the horror fest it could have been but has solid performances and is beautiful to look at.

First off, I'm a big Guillermo del Toro fan. That being said, I really enjoyed the story. Well-acted by the cast & the production design was very interesting! This story works as a "spiritual" companion film to del Toro's earlier film, The Devil's Backbone.

I liked it. Tom Hiddleston was great. Guillermo did a good job directing. It's no Pan's Labyrinth or Pacific Rim but it's a good 2 hour popcorn filler.

It's not a horror thriller in the general sense. It's more of a mystery romance which happens to have some ghosts thrown in the mix too. It'll make you a jump at a few points, but its not meant to scare you like the Ring or any of the Insidious stuff is.
