Performance - The Crucial x9 Pro impresses with its speedy performance (1050mbps read/write), making file transfers a breeze. Perfect for moving large files like photos and videos from SD cards to SSD to PC/Laptop.
Capacity - With 2TB, it offers ample space for backing up files and photos on the go. It's also versatile enough to use for extra storage on gaming consoles or home theater PCs. Its competitive pricing for 2TB makes it a smart investment. I plan on using it for my travel backups, replacing a larger external SSD that takes up more space.
Durability - Built to withstand water, dust, and sand (IP55), its compact size and rugged design make it perfect for travel. The sleek space gray anodized aluminum finish and rubberized bottom add durability and style. The lanyard hole doubles as an activity light, enhancing its functionality and convenience.

The first thing I noticed was is how amazingly compact and solid this external SSD drive is. I use it for keeping backups of my laptop - I have two of these drives and alternate between them. The drive is very fast - typically 1000MB/s on my fast USB 3.2 connection. The drive is very thin, and takes up very little space in the outer pocket of my laptop bag. It is excellent value.

I bought this SSD as a replacement for a cheaper no-name brand hard drive to keep important backups of my data offline. It is incredibly fast, very small, and works perfectly for my use case. This little fella could even store and run modern games on it. Crucial's brand name is certainly one to trust.

For anyone having trouble getting the device to show up when using the included USB-C cable: the cable is the problem.
I switched to an Insignia USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Superspeed+ cable (Model: NS-PCKCC3), and it works very well. I haven’t run any speed benchmarks yet, but it’s definitely not slow. The device now appears on my iPhone, Mac, and Windows machines without any issues.

I was surprised after I opened the box and saw how small this is. I use this to store my edited photos for my wife to print out photo albums on Shutterfly. Also it looks better than my Samsun T7 Shield (in my opinion).

Finally the Crucial x9 pro had gone on sale and I picked one up for myself. I heavily rely on this SSD for my drone and photography/video business. There is no other SSD that exists for a better quality at this price point. I am happy to say I will be returning to purchase the 4TB model. I’ve clocked read/write speeds at 909 and 880!! If you’re new to photo/video storage or even a professional, this SSD is well worth the money! If I had the money I would of bought two! Also, there’s a small hole with an LED light in the corner for a carabiner.

Unreliable and fail to mount - losing massive data

I am utterly disappointed with the Crucial - X9 Pro 2TB External USB-C SSD - Space Gray. I purchased three of these hard drives, and every single one of them has failed me within the last five months. None of them mount to my MacBook Pro, rendering them completely useless for my needs.
To make matters worse, these failed drives contain thousands of raw image files that I desperately need access to for editing and delivering to my high-profile clients. The fact that I cannot recover the data from these devices is a huge blow to my professional reputation and has caused significant delays in my work. I download all the images to the external hard drive and have since formatted my XQD cards for subsequent photo shoots.
I trusted Crucial to provide reliable and efficient storage solutions, but they have let me down tremendously. The frustration and stress I have experienced as a result of these failed drives are immeasurable. It is unacceptable that a product marketed as a high-quality external SSD would fail so consistently and leave me stranded with inaccessible data.
I highly discourage anyone from purchasing the Crucial - X9 Pro 2TB External USB-C SSD. It is an unreliable and unreliable product that will only lead to disappointment and loss of important data. Crucial needs to address these issues immediately and provide a resolution for customers who have been affected by these failures.
I am deeply unsatisfied with this product and the negative impact it has had on my work. I strongly advise looking for alternative storage solutions to avoid the frustrations and setbacks that I have endured.

The device works fine however the waterproofing backing as cracked and came off and it's never been dropped and always in the case inside of another case with my tablet. So it kind of defeats the toughness of it if the rubber coating dries up and comes off. As you can tell from my pictures the devices never been dropped it's not even a scratch on it it just started falling apart

When I opened the packaging and took the SSD out, I was surprised by how small the drive was.
Out of the box you get the drive, a USB-C to USB-C transfer cable, and inserts.
I already have a couple of external hard drives (Moving parts internal), and the crucial SSD was about 1/6 of the size. This thing is absolutely super portable.
Over the years my eyes got used to seeing micro SD cards, and realized their functions and purpose. I honestly never thought I would see such a small external SSD.
Okay, enough about the size, the speed is also great. To put into perspective, I transferred about 30 gigs of family photos from my laptop to the X9 in about 5 minutes. (Keep in mind this was an estimate, I didn’t have an opportunity to actually time the event). This is extremely fast. I also stored some videos on the X9 and used it as a primary source for video editing, and there weren’t any hiccups in that area either. Speed was constant.
Since it’s a SSD, there aren’t any moving parts in the interior of the drive, it acts just like a flash drive, or a NVME internal drive.
There’s a small white light in the corner of the drive. It’s an indicator light to let you know when it’s in use, and it’s tucked away in a crevice that I’m guessing is used for attaching to a key ring… I don’t know the added value of that, but I would rather just keep the small drive in a pouch in my laptop bag.
All in all, it’s a great drive. The form factor is great, and the transfer speed is also nice and quick.

It seems like technology just keeps getting smaller and smaller. It is not too far-fetched to imagine a future where we can fit hundreds of terabytes of information on a storage device the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen. I heard about a new material called graphene that has the potential to store much more data than current storage technologies. This could revolutionize the way information is stored and accessed. Until then, I am content with the fact that a super small and lightweight SSD drive like the Crucial X9 Pro can perform as well as it does.
All things considered, the size of the device could be a problem for those who are prone to misplacing things. It is literally so small (about the size of a large book of matches) that it would be very easy to lose in a backpack, luggage, etc. This is why I attached a small piece of Velcro to the back of the drive so that I can simply stick it to my laptop case. It is important to keep the device close to your computer, as the USB-C cable that is provided is only just over 8 inches long. The cable is also pretty thick, so it isn’t very flexible. The drive also has a small hole so you can hang it from a lanyard if you work on the go. Bonus!
The drive's speed is just what you would expect from an SSD drive. It has read and write speeds of up to 1050 MB/s, which means that you can perform just about any task as if it were an internal SSD drive. For example, you can load large files quickly, such as 4K videos or high-resolution photos. You can also edit videos directly from the drive without any lag or stuttering. However, if you shoot in 4K most of the time, I always recommend using proxies for video editing. This will greatly improve the performance of your editing software and make it easier to work with large files.
All in all, this little drive is everything I expected from a brand name like Crucial. It is fast, very small and light, but also well-built. It looks cool, it can hold a lot of information for its small size, and it simply gets the job done. I have only had it for a short period of time, so I cannot comment on its longevity. However, given that it is a product from a reputable brand like Crucial, I am confident that it will be a great device for my needs, that should last a long time.
I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a lot of storage space in a tiny, lightweight package.
