This is a pretty good movie based on the written works of H.P. Lovecraft. Definitely worth seeing if you enjoy his type of horror mystery. Decent acting, production and attention to detail. I enjoyed the movie Dagon more but still liked Cthulhu.

If you are a H.P. Lovecraft fan, you will likely enjoy this movie. It has many of the indicia of his northeastern American horror stories. Spoiler alerts: This is NOT about Cthulhu, instead it pulls echoes of many of his other stories. Not much in the sense of special effects, and the plot is a bit disorganized (but what would you expect?), and nowhere approaches the true horror of the books - but could you really expect it to? But having read all of Lovecraft's works, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

The dvd I ordered didn’t have the full movie on it. The last scene of the movie just stops. I didn’t get to finish the movie. It’s a burnt copy not an original.

First off, the movie is based on H.P. Lovecraft's "The Shadow over Innsmouth" not "Call of Cthulhu" which I assumed before watching. After reading the novella, the plot made a lot more sense. The storyline of the movie seemed to go in multiple directions and it was a bit too confusing. The atmosphere of the movie was just as haunting as Lovecraft's prose, and the Shoggaff's were as grotesque as I had imagined. The ending was brilliant until the final scene of the movie which was a major disappointment. Definitely read the novella before watching the movie.
This review is from Cthulhu [DVD] [2007]

This independent film puts every cent of its budget on the screen to deliver a rich, provocative and disturbing experience. I have not seen a movie that delivers such relevant themes in a package that is so completely frightening since "Dawn of the Dead"
From dreadcentral.com
The experience of watching this film was as perfect a translation of modern times through the lens of Lovecraft as I have ever seen attempted. Director Dan Gildark and writer Grant Cogswell have pulled of the near impossible: They have created a monster that is not only provocative and challenging, but beautiful all at the same time.
