Great for mid sized bedroom. Overall Great Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Air Conditioner cools very well for a mid sized bedroom. I would say for portable a air conditioner it is quieter than the ones I had before this one. I am yet to have to empty the water, even know I have had several humid days. It really has not made a huge difference on my energy bill. The only problem is a little bit heavy, but I have seen heavier in terms of a portable air conditioner. The window kit is easy to install, I had no problems taping this my window which is a bit smaller than the included bracket. GREAT PRODUCT!!!

So far so good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to cool my 230 square foot room, and, after reading a lot about these types of untis, I decided to go with the Danby 8,000 BTU portable. Packaging was excellent, very easy to open and set up. The slider unit was very easy to install (literally a couple of minutes) although you may need to add some weather stripping depending on your window. Everything seems to click together well and no fumbling with the hoses like I read in reviews of other portable acs. Most important thing is that it worked right out of the box. My 80 degree room easily went to 73 in about a half hour - it could have gone cooler, I just set it for 73 as that is comfortable for me. Temp is super-easy to set; just click the up or down arrow on the nice little remote to what temp you want. When the desired temp is reached, the compressor shuts off and the unit goes into fan mode. As it heats up, the compressor comes back on for a bit. For having a compressor inside it, I was surprised by how quiet it runs - much quieter than the old school fan I was using. Blows cold air right from the second you start it. Once the room is cool and the evening temp drops, you can shut the unit off and have a nice cool room all night. Only had it for a short time so cannot comment on longevity, but it looks very well built and I am hoping for the best. Oh, and Danby's customer service, which I called once, seems to be wonderful - they answer the phone and are very helpful.

Great AC for the price and BTU's
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This AC is very easy to install and so far has been working great for my living room. Until now all I had was a really loud Vornado fan. This unit isn't silent but it's much quieter than my fan was and of course is cooling the room better. I have casement windows and therefore can't install a window AC, so this was a great alternative for me.

Decent Machine, LED light is TOO BRIGHT
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this unit for my bedroom and it's quiet, keeps things cool and is not too big. What really drives me crazy is the LED light on the unit is so frustratingly bright that when I try to sleep at night everything in my room is enveloped in a bright blue light. There is no way to turn this off without turning off the whole unit. I really liked this unit otherwise so I am sad that I will need to bring it back and find something that does not have a blinding light.

Window Kit too large
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Be advised the window kit for this unit only goes as small as 28". The windows in our apartment are 26", so we weren't able to fully install the window kit. If I can figure out how to saw down these plastic pieces it will be fine, but this is something that should really be displayed prominently in the product description. Otherwise, this thing does it's job, I just didn't expect the installation to turn into a multi-day project.

It works great...when it works
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had my Danby AC unit since September 2015 and I've already had to call in a warranty repair. Danby has terrible customer support; the person I talked to treated me like an idiot and he was incredibly rude. Apparently you are not supposed to connect the hose to the back of the unit unless you are using it as a dehumidifier even though the giant sticker next to it says to make sure you connect the hose to prevent water from overflowing into the system. I was really impressed with how well the unit worked, but I am not at all impressed with the life expectancy or the customer support from the manufacturer. I would not purchsae this again.

Waste of time, effort and money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product is very heavy for 1 person to carry, but I did it. Only to brin g it home and find a missing piece which is crucial to hook the exhaust to the back of the unit. I have the pleasure of going back to the store to get the missing piece. The unit has been on for almost 2 hours fixed up with tape. The room was 86 degrees when it started, it is now 85 degrees 2 hours later. The room is 250 square feet, but ceilings are about 10 feet high. At Best Buy they also said not to pay attention to what it says on the box as that is recommended, they give their own information on what btu's will impact what size of a room, saying that 8,000 btu's will actually cool a 350 ft room. Well, at 250 sq ft. in my room, I am very hot and very angry. The box even looked like it was opened as a refurbished product which could explain the missing piece, yet sold as a new product at new product price. I am so angry to have to take it back to Best Buy for a better unit.

Not particularly good at cooling room
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dehumidifies well but if very hot does not get the job done. Has never gotten below 72. Seems at best to get 10 degrees below outside temp so if it is 90 out does not get much below 80 which does not cut it, the room is only 10 x 15 at most so it should be doing better. Not sure if I got a defective machine or it is just junk.

not so cool
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My main ac went up in smoke and being in south MS you need ac. I ran down to bestbuy and found this unit. Being portable if i needed it during hurricane season I can take it with me easily. I installed in my bedroom well under 200 sq ft and the unit cooled my room from 92 to 78 in an hour. The first night was great, but this makes day 3 and my room temp is set for 75 and it's sitting on 78. The second unit i bought was a window unit also from best buy and it is kicking some cold air. I am rather disappointed in this unit and will be taking it back and picking up a different unit. I like it's size and noise level but as for cooling a 200 sq ft room it's not cutting it.

NO After Sale Support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I sent 3 e-mails with a promise of a reply... nothing. I called all morning and either waited 30+ minutes on hold as "You're the next call in Que" message, or they blatantly hung up on me when I pointed out that the broken part was identified in their owner's manual. Every time, they just HUNG UP IN MID SENTENCE. I then called Best Buy and received an e-mail of my receipt and then American Express to receive a refund from them. This will take some time, though better than letting "Danby" win by NOT providing support for their products. DON'T get a Danby. You WILL regret it.

Don't waste your time
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Terrible just terrible. I bought this A/C unit hoping it will cool my small apartment living room. I set it up how it was said to set up which was not hard. I left the a/c on for over 6 hours while I was out doing errands and when I returned home i literally forgot I even bought this A/C it was still extremely hot in my small apartment. I returned it the same day. The next day I went to Walmart and bought a cheap $120 A/C unit and guess what, it cools my living room more then enough it literally gets cold. Do not waste your time buying any portable A/c unless it's a window one.

Will not cool the room.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This air conditioner must run for hours before it cools even a small room a few degrees. After running for an entire night, the temperature in the room was higher than the outside temp. I would have been better off using a window fan and pulling in the cooler outside air. In other words, a $30 window fan makes the room more comfortable than this $300 disappointment.
