I fell in love with dances with wolves when it first hit the silver screen. when the 3 hour movie ended at the theater I thought " oh no, it cant be over already". I first bought a copy on vcr, then on dvd, and then when I found out about the extended 30 year anniversary edition on blue ray, of course I had to get it. the extended version runs to just under 4 hours and really helps to fill in the story adding to its impact. there are extended scenic vistas that were originally cut to reduce run time. best buy has this version at an incredible price. if you are a fan of the movie or have never seen it, get a copy today while it is still available

    Older DVD but Classic

This is an older movie but just classic. I love Kevin Clostner and the other stars. Acting is great and story is about a Civil War hero and his dream to fulfill his life. He learns to befriend and respect the neighboring Sioux Indians. He also falls in love. He becomes a hero, a friend, a lover and as close to a Sioux as possible. His whole life changes as he finds new meaning. But the best part is the unbelievable scenery. The breathtaking views of the frontier, the wildlife, the Sioux and the beauty of his love affair make this movie a unforgettable saga.

Dances with Wolves is again an older movie but one that I've enjoyed many times. Kevin Costner stars as Lt. John Dunbar an exiled soldier who is sent to a remote western Civil War outpost where he befriends wolves and Indians, making him an intolerable aberration in the military. The movie basically centers on how his human kindness when misunderstood gets him in trouble. But good prevails in the end. So, we have here a wonderful human interest story with first rate sound and some fantastic video production values. I think this is a good movie to enjoy with the whole family.

    Kevin Costner Revisited

Watching this Anniversary Edition of Dances With Wolves gives viewers the opportunity to see a young Kevin Costner at his finest. Both those who saw the film when it was first released 25 years ago as well as those younger viewers who are seeing it for the first time will enjoy this extended edition of the film. Viewers seeing the scope of the movie (which was Costner's directorial debut) will see the relevance of the movie (which focuses on a period of American History after the Civil War dealing with the clash of cultures--the "White Man" vs. the Sioux Indians, and the attempt to reconcile the 2) to events happening today.

An American Classic and One of Costner's Best

I consider this movie to be one of the great tales of how America was made, and a phenomenal movie in its own right. It was Costner's first and best attempt at directing. With 12 Oscar nominations, only 7 movies have ever been nominated for more Oscars. With 7 wins, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography, only 15 movies have ever won more Oscars. The cinematography is grand and the scenes sweeping in a way that is reminiscent of Lawrence of Arabia (1962), which also won 7 Oscars, six of them in the same categories. I highly recommend this movie.

I had heard how Dances With Wolves was a great movie, but had never had the opportunity to see it until recently. I was thoroughly impressed with the story, and I must admit that even though the movie was approximately three hours long, it hardly seemed like it because it was so engrossing. Kudos!

From the first time I had watched this film, I've always been a big fan of Kevin Costner and as well for our Native Indian History. This movie has always been one of his best films he has ever been in. I had or will have ever got tired of watching Dances with Wolves. I also needed to see if there was any scenes that I had missed from watching it on VHS lol, and behold there was, and I was blown away to find out there was a lot of scenes that I had never seen before.

This film tells a different story about the American Indian (can I still say that) and how it might have been for them if the white man was not constantly threatening their very existence. I could not help but think a an arrow or two and a random scalping were well deserved here.

20 years ago Kevin Costner made a movie about a lone calvary officer at a remote outpost and the trails this man faced. Overcoming loneliness, fear of indian attacks, isolation, and buffalo, the calvary officer makes friends and learns a new way of life, one he thought he would never have thought possible. Watch Dances with Wolves and fall in love

Saw this when it came out in theatres and was awed by it then. Got the DVD version, then when I saw the extended version on BluRay was available, decided to get this. Aside from being the extended version (which helps the story line in some places), the BluRay version definitely is much better for those of us who have the eye to appreciate the video quality difference.

    Beautifully filmed, but botches history

I'm a historian by trade, and this film has always bothered me for its botched history and skewed moralizing. It really is beautifully filmed, and the depiction of life on the frontier is fairly accurate. But when you set out to make a film rooted in history, you'd better nail the general facts. Costner filters the storyline through his own 21st century political leanings instead of faithfully capturing the attitudes and interactions of the era. The result comes off more like propaganda than either history or entertainment. And in the end it spoils what could have been a film classic and not just a tasty piece of eye candy.

Whether one is a Costner fan or not, they'll find this an amazing view of Native American life as it is being swept away by the expansion of white "civilization" across the continent. Seeing this cinematic masterpiece on Blu-Ray so far surpasses that of DVD that it is well worth getting the Blu-Ray version even if you already own the DVD.

I have watched Dances with Wolves so many times, and it is just as good every time. Just when I thought that it was just another good movie, I watched it on Blue Ray... Unbelievable!!!!!! I saw detail in this movie that I thought was not possible... Detail that made me enjoy the same movie as if for the very first time... It was AWESOME : )

This is one of my favorites, because it's one of those movies you just let it take you in, your there with Lt John Dunbar as he becomes DWW, The story is deep and if your imagination is strong it is like a trip back in time and you can for get your surroundings, I always feel like I came back from a long trip after watching this movie.

One of my favorite movies of all time. But I ended up returning as it is a one-disc version of the 20th Anniv. edition (which is 2 discs, because it has a few more special features and documentaries -- which I rarely end up watching anyway). If I didn't already have the 20th anniversary edition, I would have kept this one.
