Had all the new cds from them so when I saw this I wanted it since I don’t think they are going to be making any more music anytime soon. I loved it and wish my chemical romance would get back together already!

Very interesting vibe, a new "zone" for MCR

I have been listening to My Chemical Romance since the Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge/I brought you my bullets days. I liked the very fast pace of those cds, and the dark tones. The TCFSW cd i really enjoyed how it was a concept. I really enjoy concept cds because the songs not only can be related personally, but they also tell a story and storytelling has been entertaining since Egyptian times and beyond. Those cds were more raw and edgy. Then the Black Parade came out, and it too told a story. All of them were dark and were about death and such. The Black Parade was a step away from their usual stuff, which faced criticism. It was very instrumental, featured pianos and other arrangements. It had a huge cult standing for the fans who dressed apart of the "Black Parade" as well as did the members on stage. It made it almost believeable that there was this "Black Parade". It then became known to be as good, if not better then their previous works. People still criticised them for not "Going with their roots" as do many many people today. There tends to be a neglect for growth and maturity in bands.
As with their previous works, Danger Days:The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys has been recieving a lot of criticism for its new vibe it encompasses and all the new musical journeys it takes. I found it to be one of their best efforts yet. They went all classical and black and white with Black Parade, very raw and edgy with their first. All of them focused on death and the past. Now they are painting a more colorful picture musically, and conceptually. This new cd tells of the Killjoys and their attempts to overthrow a company BL/ind in the year 2019 in California. It is performed as a radio transmission coming from Dr Death Defyings radio station.
This cd looks into the future. The only place MCR haven't really traveled conceptually is the future, and musically as well. So this album they went and made it more experimental, and did use some keyboards. They made it scrape the edge of "punk". I try to shy away from the term "punk" becuase it is very general and it is a label. I refuse "pop" because then i would be calling this cd trash if i described it as "pop". So i will not.
This cd is raw like the first two, but more colorful raw and in your face. It features upbeat and danceable songs such as NaNaNa, Planetery(GO) and Party Poison. Also songs that are more emotional, but still upbeat in their own melodic way such as Bulletproof Heart, SING, and Kids from Yesterday. There are also funky songs like S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W, Destroya, and Vampire Money. Bulletproof Heart I would consider funky too because the intro is just really creative. It features a guitar attempting to imitate keyboards but still keep its raw edge. There are also interludes such as Look Alive, Sunshine and Goodnight, Dr Death where the radio host, Dr Death Defying comes in and has a radio broadcast to announce something. I will not say what though, I do not want to ruin the story.
I believe that this is a very good step for my chemical romance. Its very experimental. They did use some of their roots, but branched off and rediscovered themselves in a whole different zone. They also incorporate retro themes and make them futuristic, similar to what Bioshock and Fallout 3 did. Although those are video games.
The album art also I also very appreciate. The front cover is a spider with a lightnight bolt on it, behind it a picture of a sun behind a mountain in the desert, and the lighting of it is just amazing. And in the album artbooklet, it has the lyrics on retro colored pages and pictures of various items from the concept.
Another thing to point out is the immediate fan response. They posted a video of Dr Death Defying playing all the songs, except the interludes, on youtube. And immediately after, people started to get hooked onto the concept. They would make their own Killjoy names, dressing apart too. They would use slang and references with eachother hinting back to the concept. And it really brought a community together, which i find very heartwarming.
Overall, I truly enjoy this album. I like all the new moves and zones they dive into, and all the experimentation that took place. I do not want a "TCFSW 2" or a "Black Parade 2". I want a new album, something fresh, not just continuing an old sound that was good for one album alone.
