Best 3rd Party Wii Game this year

I've been following de Blob's development for some time now and was dismayed by the multiple delayed release dates. However, the delays were worth it as the final product has exceeded my expectations. As a 3rd party (not developed by Nintendo) platformer for the Wii, de Blob is a standout title that may be the best offering in its class for 2008. The game screams personality and is a highly polished product. You play as de Blob, a ball of water that can abosrb and mix different shades of paint and then literally paint the town in any way you see fit. You're painting a town because the evil Inky army has drained all the color leaving a drab monochromatic metropolis in its wake. The core gameplay consists of painting your way through the city's levels achieving certain goals within each. You're graded on your performance at the end of each level based on a variety of factors including how much of the level you actually painted, how many citizens you liberated, whether you painted every tree, etc. Gives you a nice goal to strive for and adds some replayability to the game. You're also rewarded with unloackable content like movies, concept art and new game modes. So far, the gameplay seems pretty repetitive (think Assassin's Creed), but it's made fun by the sheer size of each level, the manor in which a level transforms before your eyes the more you paint and just the style and attitude with which the game carries itself. Did I mention that you can choose the soundtrack for each level and the soundtrack is affected by which colors your using to paint the level? It's added touches like that which simply make the game fun. Haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but it looks interesting. There is also a Free Paint Mode that allows you to replay a level with out the timer. Don't worry, the timer in the normal Story Mode hasn't been an issue so far. While de Blob may go down as the best sleeper hit or cult classic for the Wii in '08, it's definately worth playing and should not be missed by anyone who appreciates a different take on the standard platformer formula.

I brought this game on vacation and I played it all week with my boyfriend. This game is pretty addictive and easy to learn how to play. The only downfall is that the challenges are a little too easy. Overall I would recommend this game to a friend.
