Customers are saying

Customers recognize the 4-1/2" Center-Channel Loudspeaker's exceptional sound quality and impactful bass response, frequently praising its ability to deliver deep bass for movies and clear dialogue. However, some customers find the speaker's size to be a significant drawback, noting that it is larger than many comparable models. The built-in subwoofer is a frequently cited positive feature contributing to the overall audio experience. Its substantial size may present placement challenges for some users.

If you have large area for Home theater setup this is the center channel speaker to get, the powered subwoofer is great for clear dialogue with deep bass. i am suing 8020t as front and SM55 for surrounds. Speakers setting to Large in AVR, let the crossover inside the speakers take care of the switching, Speaker is very slim as compared to other center speakers. the sound is big though. This is true center channel speaker. i would recommend this speaker.

Fantastic center channel. Replaced an older Polk center, noticeable change in quality. I wish the speaker was a bit smaller but can't really be smaller and still deliver the power it does and have a powered sub. Do recommend not using the LFE on this or towers. A stand alone sub is still your best bet, but if you just want deep bass in a HT system LFE away!! I currently have paired with Definitive 8060 towers and Speakercraft in-ceilings for rears. This speaker does an amazing job in 5.1 audio as well as movies. Can all around PERFORM!! Definitely check it out. Would also recommend 8040 if 8060 is out of price range.

Awesome, but the 8040 would probably suffice

I have this center channel running with 8060 Towers and it is awesome. I am really waiting to obtain the new Samsung 4k (not upscaling) DVD player to really get the sounds these speakers have to offer. The sound is clear and the major difference is the small powered sub woofer that this Center channel comes with. I believe the size of the 8060 is the same as the 8040, and they are both quite big. The subwoofer needs to be adjusted as sometimes the bass does slightly distort the voices. Under certain conditions that the voices were recorded by the studio, the bass can make it difficult to understand the verbiage, so it has to be adjusted. Unless you really need the option of the small subwoofer in the center channel, go with the 8040s and save some money.

If sound quality is really important to you, this center channel speaker is one to consider. The built in subwoofer really makes a significant difference in the sound quality. I had a Polk center channel speaker previously with my surround sound system, and I thought it was pretty good. My new Definitive Technology center channel speaker blows it away. I have it paired with Definitive Technology 8020 front channel speakers and the 8040 surround speakers. The listening experience is awesome. It’s definitely worth the investment. Note: I also strongly suggest purchasing either the 8040 or 8060 front channel speakers as well to match this center channel speaker.

Incredible Center Channel with lots of boom

I've had this center channel for about 4 weeks now and played concerts, watched movies and general TV. I replaced an almost 10 year old and good sounding Cerwin Vega center. I was looking for a fuller sound and given the center handles 40%-70% of the sound depending on program, I wanted quality. The Definitive Technologies does not disappoint. The powered sub in the center simply enriches the sound which makes movie watching more engaging and a better all around experience. Find a Best Buy, go in, turn all the speakers off except for the center and listen for yourself.

    Hear what hasn't been heard

Prior to purchasing the 8060 Center, I had a standard Polk Audio System (Bookshelves). The system sounded okay at the time and was able to get loud, but we all know that is not what audio is about. I later purchased the 8060 SuperTowers and felt that since the center speaker is the most essential part of a surround system, I had to get a center to match my towers. After setting this up, I hooked it up to my Onkyo 818 Receiver Pre-outs with the built in subwoofer (it is meant to play the center channel sounds, not to play the sounds that are designated for the sub). Instantly, I heard a huge difference. The High's were soothing to my ears and the mids were able to capture all of the sounds I was not hearing before with increased clarity. The Lows with the built in subwoofer really helped capture the voices from movies, Morgan Freeman's voice had never sounded so lifelike in the Dark Knight. I loved them so much that I purchased the 8080 Surrounds to match the system. I am using an Onkyo 818 Receiver to push this system, rated at 135 watts per channel and it is perfect. I will never go back. To any person who is into audio that doesn't want to spend the money, Def Tech will be 1000x better than a Klipsch system. Forever a fan of Def Tech.

I could not be more happy with this 8060 center channel. It produces full clear voices for movies and music. The addition of the 8 inch subwoofer really helps balance out the bass with my 8060 towers. I could not be happier!

Definitive Technology's CS8060 is an awesome center. It brings home theater to life. It give's you everything that the director intends for you to hear in a movie. It's a very large speaker so make sure you have the room for it to fit. This speaker let's you hear spoken language to the fullest and in action scene's the sound of gun shots or glass breaking sounds very life like. The CS8060 sounds great along with the BP8060's

I auditioned 4 different centers at Best Buy over several weeks. I went to the store many times and practically watched the whole Dark Knight movie over the course of those weeks. I was biased towards getting a B&W HTM61B center to go with the rest of my B&W speakers, but it distorted at higher volumes. How could this be?! My 685B's don't distort and they're practically the same thing! So Dave the associate showed me the Def Tech 8040 on the surround setup in front of the couch, outside of the sound room. He unplugged the L and R channels and cranked up the volume. I kept asking him if the side channels were actually unplugged because this center has such a wide field that it sounded like the front channels were still on. That is when I became unbiased. The bass on the 8040 was actually good, but I like being able to tune the bass to my liking and I like overkill so I bought the 8060. This speaker puts the "theater" in "home theater". You can CRANK the volume and this thing can take whatever you throw at it and then some. Dialog, explosions, lightsabers, you name it, they all sound amazing! I prefer to listen to music using the neo:6 setting on my receiver and music sounds wonderful as well. I have a Def Tech SC4000 sub as well and I turn it all the way down at night so that I don't wake the house up. I had this sub and a Sony center before I had the 8060. The first time I used the 8060 at night, I thought that the sub was still on! That's how deep and rich the bass is on the 8060. Originally I didn't think that the 8060 would sound as good as the B&W because the 8060 had 4 1/2" mids and the B&W had 6 1/2" mids. Boy was I wrong. This speaker is why I never again have to pay 10 bucks to go to the theater. I am completely satisfied and extremely happy that I made this purchase.

    Awesome Center Channel Speaker

The 8060 HD center channel complements my BP8060's and the result is tremendous bass for bass lovers like me. Action movies sound great. Scenes involving explosions , fights give you the feeling like you are in the movie itself. I have a pioneer SC-61 and watch most movies in Action Mode which brings the best out in this speaker. Its a no brainer to buy this speaker if you buy the Def Tech 8060 tower speakers. The advantage over the 8040 center channel is better sound and more bass as the speaker is equipped with a 8" sub-woofer. Please bear in mind this is a wired speaker and plan well ahead to have an electrical outlet in the vicinity of the speaker. You may or may not decide to use the LFE input to enhance the bass. Choosing the right stand for this was an issue for me. But the "Peerless Adjustable Component Shelf for AV EQ" makes this speaker look more awesome and will bear the weight of this speaker (30 lbs). In summary an awesome center channel speaker packed with extra bass for a perfect cinematic experience.

    one hell of a center!

I own the 8060-st towers and recently got the funds for the matching center.I am so impressed with it.Dialog comes through crystal clear and explosions, gunshots are very dynamic.I tried setting the center small with a 50 Hz crossover(lowest my pio elite receiver goes vsx-31)...and found the sound just wasn't dynamic enough.Music also sounded bland out of the center. So per deftech's specs I set to large...that cured it all.If your in need of a center I would highly recommend a listen....:)
