We recently lost our WiFi due to the landscapers cutting our line and discovered this doesn’t work without WiFi. We had to use our tvs speakers. Very disappointed with that and was not told by the salesman when I was inquiring about the features.

Incredible sound and great streamlined design. Very capable of filling a large space with cinema quality sound despite the small size.

Definitive Technology uses HEOS software to connect to my local WiFi. I had a great deal of difficulty connecting (hours of trial and error) after reading their online manual. There is much better software available with other systems. Support phone call and web site are unhelpful. Once set up to use with my Sony OLED TV, the sound was scratchy and less than clear. I will be returning this to BestBiuy.

Ok System but not worth the price tag. Disappointing sound. Not user friendly.

I don’t have a huge amount of experience with sound bars as I’ve only recently been convinced that they can replace a full AVR and speaker setup. A few years ago I purchased my first Dolby Atmos sound bar and was genuinely impressed with how it sounded. I’ve been interested in sound bars since this purchase and am always looking to see how manufacturers can incorporate even greater sound and tech into such small packages. This Definitive Technology Studio 3D Mini caught my eye as I believe it’s Definitive Technology’s first Dolby Atmos sound bar and they’ve been a player in the high end audio scene for quite some time, so I thought I’d give it a shot and see if it could replace my current sound bar in the living room. For this review I’ll be breaking down the sound bar into a few categories and giving my overall impressions at the end. Build Quality: There’s not much bad to say about the quality of Definitive Technology’s Studio 3D Mini. It comes packaged nicely and has some great wood like finishes on the bar itself. Not much gloss here, which is awesome, but the top still shows fingerprints. The sub is nothing to call home about as it’s just black wood, but feels sturdy and is quite large, so get ready to make some room. You’ll get all the cables you need to hook up the sound bar to your TV and a huge, ugly, clunky remote control. The rest of the system is very sleek, so this remote was a bit jarring, but you probably won’t be using it much as the system supports HDMI-CEC and you’ll be able to control the volume with your TV remote if you’d like. Setup: I always like to review the ease of setup on sound bars as it’s one of the main reasons people go with sound bars. After plugging in the sound bar, HDMI and then the subwoofer, everything seemed to show up in my HEOS app on my iPhone. I was run through a simple setup and then an update (which took about 30 minutes). After that subsequent reboot I had a working system. This setup was actually a bit easier than some other competitors, but the app still needs some work and is clunky to get around in. Connectivity: You’ll be able to stream music services directly from the sound bar through the HEOS app, which is a stellar feature. There are other features as well, like multi-room audio and such, but since this is my only HEOS device I wasn’t able to test these. I did however test playing Spotify through the app, which was as easy as changing the output to the DT Studio 3D Mini in Spotify. Bluetooth is also there if you want to just pair your phone up to it and Apple AirPlay 2 for those Apple devices. There’s no shortage of ways to connect to this sound bar. Sound Quality: I streamed a few Netflix episodes from my TV and noticed that the volume output was pretty low compared to where the setting was for my old sound bar, this isn’t a huge concern as the system does get plenty loud, but was a little off putting at first since I had to turn up the numerical value so much higher than my last sound bar to get it louder. Sound quality was rich, with great mids and lows. Also, dialogue can be adjusted via the HEOS app, so I bumped that up a little bit as I always feel like that helps me hear what people are saying. I left all settings at default and the subwoofer was pretty mellow at first. Setting the subwoofer up by about 2 in the HEOS app made it a little punchier and it felt and sounded much better to me. The subwoofer is enormous and has plenty of power, but it seems like Definitive Technology definitely went for a more reference spec when calibrating the default settings of the system and this might be a little underwhelming for users that are used to everything sounding a bit exaggerated. Overall the system sounded great when passing Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Stereo and DTS:X or Regular DTS. Dolby Atmos also worked nicely coming from my Xbox One X. I played several movies and games with it enabled and had no issues. The lack of rear surround speakers is definitely noticeable to me, but I think most people will be pleased with the wider audio stage provided by the speakers' unique racetrack side firing speakers. The simplicity of not having to wire up rear surround speakers is indeed nice, but don’t expect the sound separation of a sound bar that includes actual rear surrounds. Overall Impressions: This Definitive Technology Studio 3D Mini has a wonderful fit and finish, is low profile and has some very rich and deep sound to it. The subwoofer can shake even a large room and the sound bar sounded great in my living room with vaulted ceilings. This sound bar would make a great addition to any living room or bedroom. If Definitive Technology can fix their very clunky remote and maybe consider adding some rear surrounds, this would be the perfect sound bar for a small to medium space.

Amazing is the first thing I can think of to say about this sound bar system! You would never think its outstanding sound could come out of a 26" x 4.5" bar like this. Very easy to set up too. Basically plugged in the included HDMI cord into eArc on the back of my Sony TV and power cord into outlet, set the powered but wireless subwoofer into a corner and plugged in. Downloaded the Denon HEOS app which walks you through the various setup steps and viola! All done! The sub immediately synced with the bar. It has one HDMI IN outlet, eArc, Optical and Ethernet on the back. The remote has various sound options available including a Dialogue, Music, Night, Movie mode. You can also adjust the bass on the subwoofer through the remote as well. It is very responsive too. But I wanted to hear the Dolby Atmos feature so I hit up You Tube and searched Dolby Atmos Demos. Found a bunch and that's when this soundbar really shines! I think I watched every video on there that mentioned Atmos! All sounded out of this world! We have Netflix/Amazon Prime/Hulu/Apple TV and I searched through all those apps to find Dolby Atmos videos. All I can say is regardless of what people might think about Atmos it DOES make a HUGE difference in what you are hearing! My living room has a vaulted ceiling and the sound was still very powerful. Then I moved it into my husband's TV room with a normal height ceiling and oh my goodness! I thought it sounded awesome in my living room? This was crazy good! Each little sound went right through you! Even my cat was looking all over the room. I then tried my high end BluRay player with one of the 4k UltraHD videos having Dolby Atmos. This one was The Fifth Element. I have seen this film about 10 times but NEVER have I heard it like I did with this Definitive Technology sound bar! My floors were thumping from that sub and sound flying every which way in that room. Voices are strong and clear...no problem hearing them and my husband wears a hearing aid. Needless to say he won't let me take it out of there now so I guess my living room just will have to do without it. This sound bar is VERY well made too, nothing cheap about it. I did have one glitch with no sound being heard but when I called Definitive Technology and talked to a tech we got the issue resolved right away with TV settings. I have to say I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a sound bar system! It may be small but it's mighty! Don't let the $899.98 price tag scare you off either...it's WORTH EVERY PENNY!

A nice simple sound bar that is fairly easy to set up.

I honestly didn't believe it, but Definitive Technology has done it again. I don't understand the engineering. But the sounds are phenomenal. The bass is nice and tight that you not only hear, but you feel. Making it perfect for behind the couch or bed. The highs are crystal clear, mids are solid and nothing is never muddled together. The DTS X and ATMOS makes for incredible 3D sound, The built in bluetooth lets you stream directly from your phone, Apple, Google and others like Alexa etc. it does have voice control. HEOS allows for multiroom listening to different things as long as they are HEOS as well. Roon Ready letting you browse entertainment from a unified library content of your collections.; The soundbar has 6 built in drivers. two 1"x3" racetrack-shaped front-firing midrange drivers two 1"x3" racetrack-shaped side-firing midrange drivers two 1" aluminum dome tweeters. The subwoofer is 8" and is a long throw sub that sounds fantastic..1 HDMI input, 1 HDMI output (cable included) supports Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) pass-through for 4K, Dolby Vision, and HDR10 optical digital audio input (cable included) 3.5mm minijack input USB input for hi-res music playback from a thumb drive Ethernet port for a wired internet connection includes remote control with batteries recognizes the IR codes used by several major TV manufacturers (e.g. Sony, LG, Samsung), allowing you to control the sound bar with your TV remote. Do not let the small size fool you, it has big sound and sounds as good as anything that I have ever heard. The bar blends well into just about any room under any TV or on the wall. THe sub being wireless can go almost anywhere.I honestly think this sound bar will surprise anyone who listens to it..And if you know Definitive Technology, you know they have extremely high quality standards...
