Great Premium Sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you gave a big budget for something subjectively small, yet want something that sounds impressively bold, the Studio 3D Mini is a great product! SIZE - While the actual sound bar is smaller compared to average sound bars on the market (about two inches tall), it is subjective. Width-wise, yes, the bar is a bit smaller. Unfortunately, this sound bar is much deeper. So you will want to keep this in mind as depending on the type of stand your TV has, it may or may not work out well for your setup. Additionally, the subwoofer is much larger than I would have guessed. Granted it definitely packs a impressionable punch, just keep the size in mind when finding a spot for this in your space. SOUND - Wow. This product certainly does not disappoint when it comes to big sounds from [subjectively] small packages. The sound bar is very crisp and that large subwoofer packs quite a punch to make music or movies sound amazing. Depending on the content of your media, it can give you a surround sound type feeling. I've never had a sound bar that supports Dolby Atmos/DTS-X, and now I am not sure I can go back. The sound is absolutely superb. STREAMING - Aside from being connected to your TV, this also supports HEOS, Spotify Connect, Airplay 2, and Bluetooth. It's a great option to add onto your existing home network to play music - especially with AirPlay and Spotify Connect (if you know about multi-room streaming capabilities with those technologies). OVERALL A/V setups are sometimes confusing for me, but this was pretty straight forward. I fumbled with the app a bit, but not much. The main point is this product sounds incredible, and that is what is most important. Given this is from Best Buy Magnolia, you already know that it will come with a hefty price. Is it worth it? That's for you to decide. There are many more affordably-priced options that sound great, but may not sound this good - especially that supports Dolby Atmos (don't forget this is kind of a premium feature). If you have a big sound budget, this is a good buy.

Awesome little soundbar
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy set up with the subwoofer and soundbar. Excellent build quality and sound as well. The size of soundbar is actually about half the size of many that I've seen over the years. The quality of the sound was just as good, if not better than some other ones I've seen/owned. Very happy with this product overall.

Almost Atmos
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is for Definitive Technology’s Studio 3D Mini Sound Bar. A quick disclaimer about the review: This item was received free of charge in exchange for an honest review. This sound bar includes a number of nice features such as a slim and compact design, a beast of a subwoofer, and the 2 leading technologies in 3D surround sound, DTS:X and Dolby Atmos. The system can be physically controlled by the included remote control as well as via a free app called HEOS. The 3D Mini also supports voice control from Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri or Google Assist. For the easiest connection to your television, this machine features an HDMI output with eARC. In addition, there is an HDMI input so you don't lose a valuable port on your TV to the sound bar. The big draw for this machine is the inclusion of Dolby’s Atmos 3D sound. For those unaware, Atmos is a type of surround sound that not only simulates sound around you, but above you as well. Being a sound bar, you're not technically getting an authentic Atmos experience. That would actually entail speakers not only in front of you, both sides of you and behind you, but also above you. Sound bars are able to simulate the experience of being engulfed in speakers by essentially bouncing the sound off the walls around you. For a more thorough explanation of the technology, I would suggest checking out Dolby’s website or even just a general internet search. For the home video market, Atmos seems to be almost exclusive to 4K releases. So, if you aren't interested in upgrading your DVD or blu-ray library and television to UHD (assuming you haven’t already) then I would suggest selecting a sound bar without Atmos and save yourself a little bit of money. I have yet to pull the trigger on buying a 4K video player, but luckily streaming services like Netflix and Vudu offer the feature on some of their 4K content. When I received my Studio 3D Mini I was very excited to try Atmos out, so I did a search for the best movies to test your system. At the top of a lot of lists was Blade Runner 2049, but unfortunately I purchased a blu-ray copy which doesn't include Atmos. Another title near the top of the lists was Gravity, but again I had purchased blu-ray. Third time was a charm with Avengers: Endgame. I must've purchased this disc in 4K with the assumption (correctly) that I would eventually buy a 4K television. Almost immediately I opened up Vudu (using the digital copy of the film) and queued up the big battle scene near the end of the movie. It sounded… ok. I will say that I've never seen a movie with Atmos before, so I may have hyped myself up about its promises more than it could actually deliver. I was expecting to be blown away by sounds magically coming from behind, around and above me. Hearing Mjolnir fly from one side of the room to the other when Captain America summoned it. Iron Man and Spider-Man flying and swinging above my head. Alas, it didn't sound any more impressive than my dad’s 20 year old 5.1 surround sound system. Aside from the surround sound technologies, this sound bar has a few other features. My favorite is the dialogue setting. On either the remote control or via the HEOS app you can choose different degrees of dialog boost. Sometimes, particularly with action movies, the sound effects are extremely loud but the dialog is very quiet. You have to keep your fingers on the volume buttons to turn it down during action sequences and then back up when the characters begin to talk again. The dialogue settings do a good job of helping to even out that shift in volume. I've always had to combat this issue by turning on subtitles and keeping the volume pretty quiet. Thanks to this feature I've been able to enjoy movies a bit more without having to worry about accidentally waking the baby when a surprise explosion happens. As mentioned above, there is a phone app companion to this sound bar called HEOS. It is a necessity if you want your sound system connected to the internet. I find the app to be a little confusing, with absolutely no instructions included. The basics, such as volume and equalizer settings, are easy enough to figure out. After that though, I continually get lost in the app and can't figure out how to get back to the main page. While the app can be used as a remote control, it seems to be missing some controls the actual remote has, as well as having some the remote doesn't. For example, you can only adjust treble, bass and subwoofer output via the app. The HEOS app is also how you can control your sound bar as a Bluetooth speaker. The app is preloaded with a list of 11 different digital music services, like Pandora and Spotify. I cranked up quite a few songs from my library on my phone. They sounded pretty good, but like my expectations for Atmos, I wasn't blown away. I would have expected a little more customization with the equalizer instead of just treble and bass for the price tag. The same goes for the rest of the app. It almost seems like a prototype app. Some other aspects about the Studio 3D Mini that some folks might not care for: -While it does have a nice slim profile, it still blocks my TV's remote control sensor -There’s no LCD screen to indicate chosen settings. There are just a handful of LED dots. One dot lit up means one thing, two lit up means another, etc. -It doesn't seem to shut off or go into sleep mode. Even pressing the power button on the remote does nothing. -While changing the volume is indicated on the TV screen, it has a hard time displaying what the level is. For example, if the volume is at 8 and I turn it up two notches to 10, the screen will just show a dash – instead of the numbers 9, then 10. To be fair, this could actually be the fault of my cheap television. -The remote control comes off as cheap in comparison to the high end look of the sound bar and woofer. What you might really like: -It can get nice and loud and rattle the neighbors with the monster woofer. -In addition the HDMI eARC connection, there is another HDMI input. There is also an Ethernet port, USB port, digital input and auxiliary input. -The HEOS app will connect with other HEOS-enabled product throughout your home allowing you to customize where your music is playing with a tap on your phone as well as, I'm assuming, by the use of voice commands.

Amazing Sound in a Small Package
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received my Definitive Technology Studio 3D Mini sound bar and subwoofer a few days ago and I am quite impressed. Its sounds great and was super easy to set up, but with a higher than average MSRP and no rear speakers, is it worth it? I’d say that depends on what you are looking for specifically. First off the set up was extraordinarily easy, plug in the sound bar and subwoofer. Attach you input(s) and turn it on, that was pretty much it. The two devices found each other within seconds and quickly starting blaring the Star Wars opening theme music in spectacular fashion. Installing the HEOS app on my phone allowed me to also easily stream music to the system. The sound bar itself is very small for the explosive sound it can create. It comes with a template for quick and easy wall mounting. The quick start guide was easy to follow though as with most guides like this, I wish the text was larger for my 47 year old eyes.. Now for the key part of this review, how does it sound? Well as I’ve already mentioned it sounds wonderful. The bar is very impressive. The crisp, clear sounds it produces are stunning. The subwoofer and the bass it produces is very clean at moderate levels and bone rattling at the higher settings. I am genuinely impressed at how full the room sounds with no rear speakers. However, I do have to say that you do loose a bit without said rear speakers. If you really love the feel of true surround sound this may not be the sound system for you, no matter how great it sounds. Of course not all rooms are ideally suited to install rear speakers anyways. So I’m sure many will love this system. I set it up to compare it to my surround system in the living room and we are conflicted on which system to keep there. This system recreates sounds a little better, but I personally miss not having the rear speakers. So I think we are going to put the newer system in our bedroom. Which is what we planned to do all along, I just wanted to really compare the systems. Oh and this remote is fantastic. Volume is easy to find in the dark and there is an overall feel to the remote that is unique in my experience and very comfortable in my hand. All in all we love these speakers. If you are looking for super high quality sound in a small package and are fine with no rear speakers I would absolutely recommend this product!

The best soundbar I have used.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this item at no cost to test through the best buy tech insider network and to give my unbiased opinion. I currently have a 7.1 surround sound system on my main entertainment center, but I got this as a sound system for my rec room area so that I do not want to have to have a bunch of speakers around, but I also don't want to compromise sound. This delivers. I have had experience with vizio, auvio, nakamichi, samsung, bose, and lg soundbars in the past, only one with a sub, but it was wired. This soundbar blows anything away that I've had. The size is very reasonable and could sit on the mantle in my front room if it were there. it is a bit deeper than most "soundbars", but still can mount to the wall below the tv. It came with a stencil and spacers to mark the wall and hang. The sub I can tuck under an end table to the side of the room. This has no fade in clarity even at louder volumes. This setup was easy, pull it out of the box and go. The quick start guide was much appreciated. I connected this a few ways via hdmi arc and optical. I utilized my 4k disc player and also 4k vudu and netflix to test dolby atmos and dts x, and and wow, this system is crisp and defined, good bass that is adjustable. I utilized Apocalypse Now 4k to see how the surround effects would go with Dolby Atmos, and just hearing that chopper go across the screen in the opening scene made me want to duck to not get hit. It had excellent directional flow from left to right as the chopper flew across the screen. I did stream some music via Bluetooth as well as Heos app, and all sounded good. The Heos app could be useful, it tries to combine your library and streaming into one spot but I just don't have problems going to each of my services or files to play stuff. I have the app on my phone but likely won't use it much. I do know now that this is on my rec room tv, I may be watching more stuff there than on my main system. I don't mind letting my family do what they want with the main system, I will not lose any quality of what I'm doing with this. I highly recommend this item if you want assured quality sound with minimal effort. You do get what you pay for here

Looks great and sounds even better!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I set up the soundbar in my bedroom system attached to a 4K HDR TV. The setup was extremely easy with the provided set up guide. For a more in depth account of what this sound bar can do and the features it offers you need to go to the Definitive Technology website and under support you will find the owners manual. Well worth taking the time to review this document. First of all this is a very attractive sound bar. At 26" wide it does not overwhelm the stand or the TV. I have mine mounted on a stand. It can also be wall mounted and comes with a template and spacers for mounting. It has a very nice finish and brushed metal accents. At only 2" high it does not block the IR receiver on the TV. Downloading the HEOS app was easy and after connecting the sound bar and sub was simple to set up. Make sure you turn off the internal speakers on your TV and set the TV for CEC. After doing this the sound bar was able to be controlled by both my TV remote and cable remote to control the volume of the sound bar. As for sound this thing is amazing. The sub blends seamlessly with the sound bar and the included remote can adjust the volume of the sub as well as adjust for dialogue. It also has settings for movie, night and music options. The sound bar is very open and has a great soundstage. With Atmos content you can go into the Heos app and set it to output the Atmos soundtrack and it is a whole other level of sound quality. I watched John Wick 3 and Spiderman Far from Home and you would think things were coming out of the top of the TV. I may find myself watching movies with this system instead of the other (2) 5.1 systems that I have. Music streaming is a breeze. Both Bluetooth and Heos worked perfect. I was able to stream my music library without any lag. When you stop streaming music and go back to watching the TV the sound bar automatically switches the input to output the sound from the TV. Since I stream my movies I do not use a separate Bluray player so I did not test the separate input on the sound bar but in addition to the ARC/eARC output from the TV it also has a HDMI input that can pass 4K, HDR and Atmos which is a real plus. The sound bar also has optical but I would highly recommend ARC/eARC if you have it as optical will not pass Atmos. Given the fact that the sound bar integrates with the TV so your regular remotes can adjust the volume it makes it very easy to use for those in the house that are not overly technical. My wife loves how easy it is to use. For anyone looking for an excellent sound bar capable of Atmos playback this is the one to consider. I would highly recommend this sound bar.

Good ATMOS Sound Bar
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound bar and subwoofer are easy to set up, completing the simple instructions in about 5 minutes. The longest time, by far, was to update the software, which took about 30 minutes using a wireless connection. Flipping back and forth between regular TV watching and movie watching shows the great advance of the ATMOS capability, giving the listener a great, crystal clear listening experience with deep bass and high trebles, even when EQ'd both at 0. The phone app is nice for making any adjustments without the need of the remote and easily plays rich sound from my music library.

Great sound, compact size
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve really enjoyed having this sound bar in my bedroom. Top tier crystal clear sound, really really nice audio quality. Bass could be a little more bold while playing music across Bluetooth, but otherwise perfect! Setup was simple: power cord for sub; power cord for bar; eARC HDMI, and that’s it!!! I just plugged in 3 cords and that was it, the unit did the rest of the setup on its own. Wireless sub connects automagically, the eARC set itself up and automatically uses your existing tv or directv remote to control the sound bar which I thought was really cool. Very simple and quick setup, about 5 minutes from opening the box to being able to use it. Lastly the looks of this unit are very classy. Sleek, black, nice edges, very clean design. It’s a nice visual addition to my av setup as well.

Hmmmm
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m going to be honest. I expected more from DT. Like one other reviewer. It’s not worth the price. I have a Vizio that kills it in bass and just a step below it In clarity. I’ll say DT has pretty good high end and some mid. The lows are just lacking. I’ll be returning it for the Samsung 950T. DT @ $900? Not worth that at all. Looks great but you can get the same sound for cheaper. This unit should be around $350-400 tops.
