Customers enjoy the fantastic sound quality and solid bass of these speakers, frequently praising the crisp highs and well-balanced audio. Many appreciate the built-in DAC for cleaner sound reproduction and the option to add a subwoofer for enhanced bass. A minor drawback mentioned is the relatively short length of the interconnect cable between the speakers.

Overall good computer speakers but lacking bass. There is an external port to plug in a subwoofer though.

These speakers are connected via USB to a Mac Mini. They work well in both modes and always sound fantastic for their size. I couldn't find a better speaker for the price and size. The only complaint is that the lowest volume position is sometimes a bit too loud for computer "noises".

Best set of desktop speakers with a few caveats...

I'm a big fan of the 'klipsch' sound and upgraded to these from a set of 2.1 promedias I've had for 5 years which I had augmented with a separate amp and subwoofer. After listening to the Inclines for a couple of songs, I instantly fell in love. I set them up about 30" apart, slightly toed in and ~5" from the wall. The bi-polar design reflecting off my wall enhances the soundstage greatly. I can sit in the center and close my eyes and the speakers will instantly disappear. It doesn't really give me a full 'surround' effect but more of a 'slightly curved wall of speakers in front of me' effect. Similar to what I expect from seeing a band live in a small, well set up club. Despite what you might expect, these don't require quite as much of a sweet spot like I notice on a lot of other speakers which is a good thing. You can crank them and they will fill a small-ish room easily with sound. Bass? It's tight, accurate, and surprising to hear coming from such small speakers. I was on the fence on whether to add a sub and after actually hooking one up, I decided it wasn't needed; your personal taste may vary though. Theres 2 things you should be aware of: 1.) Value - they sound fantastic, and are built *way* better than most other desktop speakers I've seen, but I feel that at MSRP they're a bit overpriced 2.) I confirmed with Def Tech technical support, these have a built in protection circuit that will protect from overheating or damage caused by distortion by cutting the sound off. The only way to get sound back is to power cycle the speakers. As of this writing, there is no mention of this anywhere in the literature or on their website. I do have a few songs that will trigger this protection (to be fair, I do have the speakers cranked to ~90%) but it was a little disconcerting at first due to not knowing what was going on. Despite those two things, I have no real major complaints. I was considering going with a pair of Audio Engine A5+ or coupling my existing amp with a set of nice bookshelf speakers, but decided I didn't have the amount of space on my desk to give larger speakers a chance to really shine. I'm happy I went with the Def Techs as I could not possibly imagine a better sounding desktop setup. I'm sold on bi-polars and will be looking for them for other rooms in my house in the future.

    Inclined for Greatness!

These speakers have fantastic sound quality. I listen to a lot of good music and have a nice sound system in the man-cave. But for PC speakers these literally are the bomb! I actually bought the first set for my PC at a local retailer, then another 2 days later for my Mac. These speakers are made for the Thunderbolt display and very attractive. They have a slight 9.5-deg 'incline', and look great on the desk and take advantage of the rear-firing bi-polar speakers with a back wall. They can hookup to your PC via Optical, USB, or 3.5mm Aux. I use the optical but the USB is great too as it gives access to the built-in DAC. Yep, these DTs have their own high-grade DAC inside. Simply press the power and volume down buttons to put it in the DAC mode. The DAC sounds great but once activated, you must use the vol controls on the speakers for control. Simply press power and vol up and switches to non-DAC mode. Overall - the feel and build quality is fantastic. They have a solid brushed aluminum plate that ~1/4" thick, foam bottom. The woofer and tweeter above the speaker produce a wide even sound stage. I had a pair of HK Nova's with the BT and loved those, but they sound similar to the AudioEngine2+. These DT Incline's are similar to the AudioEngine5+ but with only a 4"x5" foot print, vs the 5+ massive 7.5" x 10" foot print. Who has room for those on a desk? It has a coax sub out, but is really not needed. These DTs have a lot of bass with 80W - my quest for the PC speaker grail is over!

    Very Good But High Price

I have had these speakers for several months and love them. The loock fantastic and have a very solid aluminium base. Unlike most 2.0 speakers these produce very nice bass and sound bigger than they are. It is not the same as a subwoofer, but it's still very good for what they are. You do have a port on the back so you can output sound to a sub and then these really wake up. I listen to classical music and these do great mids and highs. If you really crank up the volume they can produce adequate bass for movies and action sequences as well. I just watched Ironman 3 on these and they were great. The one thing I don't like is the cable that connects the 2 speakers is only about 3.5 feet. So if you have a very large desk, or like running cables to you can't see them you may have to put the speakers closer to each other if you need extra slack in the wire.

    What I've been looking for

I've been watching this and another brand found in Magnolia for .. a long time and finally saw this on clearance. This replaces a 10 year old high end system that includes a big sub and the sound of this DefTech set blows the old speakers away even without a sub. The sound is excellent and easy on my ears. Clear, crisp, solid bass, balanced mids, present voices and good volume. I use the DAC of a fruit tree on my home system so i wondered how good the internal DAC on these would be, and I'm not disappointed at all. These are on sale all over for $150 off the original price so maybe DefTech is moving on to a newer model. I'm happy I caught this deal.

I have been looking for speakers that will not clutter my desk with cables and have great quality. The price had always deterred me from purchasing but when it went on sale, I figure why not. All I can say is that these speakers are simply amazing. The added feature to connect a powered sub is a plus but not needed. I am very satisfied with simply the way it is. Sounds a lot better than the Bose speaker I have tried.

    Almost perfect for me

These speakers sound really good. Sitting at my desk listening to them, they sounded clear, tight and i could feel the bass moving air. I only had two problems with them. 1. was that sitting in front of them at my desk they sounded really great but as soon as I moved to other parts of my home office they lost their luster. If you're always at your desk they would be perfect but since I move around they aren't perfect. They were made to be listened to in one place, hence their incline design. 2. Obviously the deep bass isn't there. Don't get me wrong, they produce surprising bass for such a small speaker, more than the B&W's. But I missed that deep bass for movies and certain music. So if you're always at your desk and you don't miss really deep bass from a subwoofer then I would get these in a heartbeat.

    Expensive but worth every penny

I've had many desktop speaker products over the years—from JBL to the built-in speakers of an Apple display. None have come close to the sound quality and build quality of these Definitive Tech Inclines. I wasn't expecting the sound quality from these speakers when I plugged them in. Everything the reviews say about them is absolutely true. The bass is unbelievable, the sound quality is amazing, and the soundstage is deep and wide. I've never heard a better or more refined desktop speaker. If sound quality matters to you, and you don't mind spending the money for these, you will be well rewarded.

Best Desktop Speakers at Best Buy

Best speakers available at Best Buy. I got this at excellent timing they were on sale for $50 off. So at 349.99 i'd say that's a pretty good price. I have the supercube 2000 def tech subwoofer to go with it, and it sounds great. What I really like about these big speakers is being about to hook a real subwoofer to it any one you want. Makes a big difference to me.

'Lots of technical reviews that got me to buy the Incline speakers but being a hearing impaired person, I'd like to review them from the 'applied' perspective. WOW! I can't speak for the severely impaired but for the mild to moderately impaired these will work great. I've replayed my entire stock of CD's (well over 100 in many different genres) as well as electronic files I've downloaded and I've heard nuances that I've never heard before. It's a whole new listening experience. If you're in a similar situation as myself, you'll really appreciate investing in these speakers.

Ok so I wanted something better then your average Computer speakers. After doing much research...pouring over small amps and other bookshelf speakers..I decided to get theses. I have to say I'm pretty happy. I have it hooked up to my EMU-1212m sound card (analog out) for better quality and that has made all the difference. SOOoo clear and enjoyable. Yes the low end is not what it could be..but that's what the SUB-OUT is for. Anyways I'm happy. And if I want more bass I'll just get a sub. But my computer room is filled with sound...good sound and I'm happy. I just hope the things last a while...I don't want them to die like my m-audio Studiophile EV 30s...:(

These speakers have insanely good sound quality. I’m a Hi-Fi audio junkie – using products like Bowers & Wilkins, Bang & Olufsen, Martin Logan, Oppo, and Marantz, I have a pretty extensive background in this spectrum of the world. These speakers are very aesthetically pleasing. They have a slight incline, and are easily positioned on the desk to take advantage of the rear-firing bi-polar speakers. They can hookup to your Computer via USB, or 3.5mm Audio Port. I've found that the USB is the best – as it gives access to the built in DAC. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, these things have their own high-grade DAC inside. Simply press and hold the power button until the power indicator light flashes repeatedly, then press the volume down button to put it in the DAC mode. The only Catch to this is, when the DAC is activated, you have to use the volume controls on the speakers to turn them up and down. The computer no longer changes the volume with the software slider. Overall – the build quality is incredible. They have a solid metal base that’s over 1/4 an inch thick. They have a solid base. The tweeter sits high above the low-base producing speaker creating an even sound stage. The subtle, yet important features of these speakers obviously show the care and thought they've put into them. It has a sub-woofer out for those base nuts - however I can honestly say they don't need it. Unless you listen to a lot of music with heavy, continuous bass, these have a great low register. The DAC automatically will send any 80Hz or lower sounds out through this when a sub is hooked up, turning the two-way crossover into a three-way. (High, Mid, Low) Yes these speakers are expensive. Go price a quality DAC, Amp, and Speakers – then reconsider the ‘high-cost’ of these speakers. They’re worth it!

The best 2.0 computer speakers out there

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I've listened to the Audioengine A2 and B&W MM-1 and these sound a whole lot better. All 2.0 PC speakers I've listened to sounded small, directional and lacked bass, which is understandable considering they need to be small. The Incline's sound like much larger speakers due to their bipolar design. Even though I have these placed fairly close together (26"), they sound like they're a good 36" apart. Their is alot of quality bass coming from the 4" woofer and 4" passive radiator, enough so that a subwoofer really isn't needed. They honestly sound like large monitor speakers with 6.5" woofers which is amazing considering they're so small. They have a build in USB DAC so you'll get a much cleaner signal than if you used the 3.5mm mini plug from your computer. I'm very impressed with these speakers and really I do believe these are the best 2.0 computer speakers out there at the moment.

    OK sound, stupid rear panel

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The sound is decent enough. My first problem was no sound through USB on either of my Linux desktops, though the USB did work on my ancient Windows XP. But then when I tried to plug in the 3.5mm audio cable, there is no place to plug that in the rear. The rear panel has only 3 ports: power, USB, and speaker cable. When I called DT, they told me I have to remove the rear panel by prying it open through the little gap in the top. He said it's pretty tight, so I guess it was "designed" not to be opened without a call to tech support. After I open that, I see the audio, optical, and sub-out ports. Now the setup works, but the stupid rear panel cannot be put back since it has only 3 holes.
