Hands down the best solution for both Music and TV. The sound quality is so much better than Sonos. Sonos started the wireless space by leveraging their technology, but you cannot beat the sound quality from the W Studio. The W Studio soundbar and the subwoofer are so much better than anything Sonos has. From a technology standpoint, Def Tech uses of DTS Play-Fi just give more support that Def Tech knows the importance of have great sound and using DTS Play-Fi technology provides that with uncompressed audio.
Yes, Sonos App is much better. As many of you know, technology changes all the time I am sure Def Tech will add more music streaming support (I hope) to their app, regardless great high quality audio equipment is harder to find.

Great sounding sytem, with a study build and great options to expand and adapt. Ease of set up and use for both home theater and wireless speaker home systems across all platforms. Great continued customer service and system support through product updates both in functionality and system issues if any. A few things perhaps future improvements through software updates could expand the options to create a full remote app. for use with the system that can also mirror and see the system menu options through evey output, currently hdmi only accessible to view to adjust options with included remote, but as I stated fully functional but, options with the current expandability would greatly make for ease of use. Also perhaps abilty to pair other w series speakers not just as additional sets but to expand as in a truely 5.1 or 7.1 adjustable soundstage. Again all about the consumers versatility and tastes, but fully satisfied definitely recommend and worth evey penny. Very efficient system in all uses. Great production of sound quality wirelessly vs Bluetooth compression of sound. 5 stars all around.

Great Sound, Seamless Connectivity!

I have the W Studio system set up in my living room, wired to my 65inch TV and also utilize wifi (wireless) through the PlayFi app. I bought three of the Polk Audio S2 speakers also, and they are currently in my dining room, kitchen and bedroom. One of these S2's is rechargeable, so I'll also use it outdoors once the weather breaks. If you are looking for a wired, wireless or multi-room system, then these are the ones to buy. The set up was relatively easy for me, an average Harry Homeowner. I have Verizon Fios and had to initiate the wifi connection a couple of times. I play these speakers often and ongoing connectivity has been consistent. The sound is unbelievable while listening to music or watching movies. Using the free PlayFi app, I have set up the multi room "zones" and I'm able to play the same song or different songs in each room, with functionality such as switching songs & volume controlled directly through the app. I mainly play music using my Samsung (Android OS) phone and my wife plays iTunes and Internet radio via her iPhone or iPad Mini. WE LOVE THIS SYSTEM! Kudos to Definitive Technology for an awesome product.

I had never heard of this brand until the sales guy at Best Buy took me to the Magnolia theater to listen to it. I was blown away. Easy set up. Better sounding than similar HK system which this replaced. Sleek minimalist design. Powerful clean bass. Easily the best soundbar out there.

The Definitive Technology W Studio series is truly ambience of pure joy - unparalleled highs, well balanced mids and steamy low end bottom to make any movie going experience amazing. Definitive Technology has been manufacturing incredible audio speakers at an affordable price. First let me state my background to my review. I have experience working with many incredible reference speakers in audio/studio industry. My background has been in professional studio consultation dealing with Tannoy, Mackie, KRK and Yamaha just to name a few. I worked along side with Dr Dre, Richie Sambora, The Wallflowers, Joe Sample, and Mary J Blidge.
Why am I taking the time to write this review? I believe this product by Definitive Technology is by far the best sounding surround unit to compliment your movie experience. The center bar is bright and well tuned with the mid-frequencies that it makes this product easy to just plug and play directly into your entertainment system in your entertainment room. The setup is clean, well built, and durable through wear and tear for years to come. However, if you are a Bluetooth addict and love Bluetooth pairing - it won't have that feature. It does however support WiFi streaming inside your home network for a better stable connection with less latency, lag, and noise. Cleaner richer and fuller music and movie experience including a wireless subwoofer that can be placed anywhere in your entertainment room to be immersed in rich clear distortion free balanced lows.
Definitive Technology definitely built a great sound system that will last way past other systems at similar or lower cost products. Only visual impact I feel about the product is that cloth finish lowers the overall built quality put into W Studio. The remote control could have used infared technology response and built more durable. It just feels so flimsy and cheap that it takes away the incredible craftsmanship in technology your ears experience.

The is probably as good as you can get as far as soundbars, and that is reflected in the price, which is substantially higher than other soundbars. The noticeable differences from what I've had in the past include more distinguishable voices, and louder voice as compared to background noise, overall clearer sound, much louder while clear, and deep bass. This soundbar also allows you to use a DT app on your smartphone to play music through. It operates through WiFi and not Blutooth, as many other music players do on soundbars. So, you have to be on the same WiFi network as the soundbar when playing through your smartphone. Some people would rather have BT. Not me, the WiFi is much more responsive, there is no lag, and as long as your WiFi is up and running, you will have quality streaming music the entire time. I have had problems with BT on soundbars as soon as I'm further than 10-15 ft from the soundbar. WiFi will work as long as you're on the same network. This app works well with music you have purchased on your iPhone, which isn't a problem at all. Some platforms out there don't allow you to play purchased Apple music - such as Chromecast - which I have in my basement. Chromecast is more set up for Pandora-style internet music player apps. The Definitive Tech app is set up for both internet music AND music on your phone which you have purchased. Although, in order to use (one of the internet music player apps) you have to be a subscribed and paying member, and not just a basic, free member of the app - although I can't remember which one, either Pandora or Spotify? Whereas, you can be a basic member of the service and still play through Chromecast. The difference is that DT is an application, in which all the music is played through. Chromecast is a way to send music to a location through the app that you're using. If that makes any sense...

I bought the W Studio system for $699, which is half the price of the Bose Soundtouch 300 soundbar and subwoofer combination. The clarity and crispness of the Bose set is slightly better, but for half the price, this is a better value. The W Studio bass is very loud and the soundbar and subwoofer feels solid and well made.

Great sound, great features, wish it had HDMI ARC.
Support is great too. I spent over an hour chatting with them. I had some DLNA issues and I provided packet captures of the request/response. They got back to me with some hints, but I am still waiting on an actual fix. We'll see what happens!
Unfortunately, I ultimately had to use TOSLINK and use my Samsung TV as the "receiver" for switching TV/bluray. The comcast X1 cable box seems to not be able to properly negotiate HDMI through the soundbar :( Support seems to think it may be doing something with ethernet over HDMI.

We purchased several of the definitive pieces to provide us in house sound. We are overall very happy with the sound we are getting and the Sound Bar is the best of the components. On Audio Alone this unit rates 5 stars. I dinged it a star for it's lack of Bluetooth and because The PlayFi system they use to manage wireless communications has had issues from time to time. The situation for the sound bar is a little trickier as it is connected to the TV directly with an optical cable and sometimes PlayFi can't get control of the Sound Bar back from the TV.

Firstly sound bar sounds great and subwoofer gives you enough rumble to shake the walls of the room you put it in. Undoubtedly this product will please your ears and fool your brain into real-like but simulated 5.1 surround sound experience. But it really lacks in several other things such as connection interfaces, extensibility and seamless integration with T.V. Below are the things that I think would prod you to pursue other options:
1. No 4K passthrough - This means you have to connect all your devices to T.V. and connect sound bar T.V. with optical fiber cable. This leads to several other problems such as you can not view your soundbar menu on t.v. screen and you have to just assume that click of the remote button works :)
2. Def tech app sucks - App sucks so much that it takes away the pleasure that you experience while listening to this well-crafted sound piece. You can only use app when you are streaming content through app otherwise you have to use remote. App does not seamlessly integrate with several US music apps and not at all with music apps of other countries.
3. No Bluetooth - App does not integrate with several of the music apps and soundbar does not have BT. If you use anything other than Spotify, Pandora and few other apps then you can not stream content to soundbar. Spotify free subscription does not allow you to stream to soundbar as playfi technology that soundbar uses (as a BT replacement) is only accessible under Spotify premium.
4. No Airplay - PlayFi technology that soundbar uses has Airplay specification built in but DT did not choose to implement it and this takes away the freedom of streaming music wirelessly from Apple devices. IMO DT has never made any upgrade to this product post its launch around 5 years ago and hence it does not provide new features and hence IMO it won't be future proof either.
5. Limited extensibility - you can extend soundbar with small def tech speakers that sync up wirelessly with your soundbar but , but ,but all 5 speakers work only when you stream content from its sucky app. You won't be able to watch your movies with real 5.1 experience. IMO there are 2 reasons for this: 1. Soundbar already simulates 5.1 experience for you, which is actually magical and very precise but IMO it can not beat real 5.1 speaker system. 2. App groups speakers as PlayFi device groups and can control what each group plays whereas soundbar does not have any such capability when it comes to its digital optical input signal processing.
6. Does not turn on/off automatically - Its not intelligent enough to turn on and off with your T.V. by sensing signal on its optical cable.
All these compromises at the price point of $1200 is too much to stand with.

This sound bar with wireless sub is truly a quality piece of audio equipment. I bought it about a year ago for my living room set-up. There was a special running at the time and I got the sound bar for a much better deal. The sound quality is superior than even my old bose system. The sound is crisp and the base is powerful. I seldom even have to turn it up over halfway as it's probably more than my living room needs. Haven't had a single problem with it. And since the Subwoofer is Wireless I can put it completely on the other side of the room and not have to worry about wires getting in the way.

I purchased this system after a different sound bar system died at six months old. When I got it home and hooked it up I was blown away. The sound this system makes is fantastic. The highs lows are perfectly separated The woofer shakes the walls in my house. Few extras I thought were nice is the mobile app for the system so you can play internet radio thru the system. has great warranty the surround sound is perfect you can close your eyes and hear thing projected behind you. I would recommend this system t anyone wanting fantastic sound.

I moved recently, from a house with a dedicated theater. I am a few years away from building my next one and my 55" plasma tv didn't have the sound to fill the void. I then went on a search for a soundbar that could fit into the living room as a multi-speaker solution isn't going to pass the wife test. My research led me to this one and I am glad that I bought it. The sound is very good and the soundbar can get LOUD. Now, this doesn't compare to a good 5 or 7 surround speaker system, but it is very good. The sound is detailed, dialogue clear and the bass is pretty decent (I came from a room with dual 12's). If you are looking for a high-quality sound bar because you can't get the full surround system, I would highly recommend this one.

I picked this up while it was on sale. As far as it goes this is one of the best soundbars you can pick up. A few things to say. The remote works fine, but it does not serve many functions. No preset sound modes which I thought was odd. Also it can be difficult to achieve a listening volume that is satisfactory. Sometimes it seems like it is either way too loud and then you turn it down a setting or two and its inaudible.

I was looking for a sound equipment that could be used of the TV (movies...) but also that I could use for music with high quality.
I think this sound bar is the best I've ever listened to. It's perfect for movies and also have enough quality for hi-fi music. Even though, it is not like having a good stereo amplifier and a nice pair of speakers.
Therefore, if you are really looking for good music sound, I would not recommend it.

fantastic sound and design
only negatives are:
1) wish remote was heavier for the price
2) you have to set up speaker in an odd menu format since it does not have hdmi pass thru
once set up is is excellent!
