A great value but could be better

I bought this laptop for developing software so the graphics card is wasted on me. The CPU is very fast and it has great battery life for the price. It also supports connecting to a docking station via the USB-C Thunderbolt connector for power/video/audio/mouse/keyboard; I haven't bought the docking station yet because it's $400. What's disappointing with this laptop is that Dell didn't install the dual drives correctly. The 120 GB SSD is where all your applications are installed which fills up very fast; I was 80% full after installing my necessities. The 1 TB HDD is just a Data (D:) drive. I used EaseUS to move everything over to the HDD and then set up the SSD as a cache drive. Windows and all my applications still load really fast, and I have a lot more space for applications.

Good computer but no instructions for 2 drives

My computer arrived. I turned it on and signed in to One Drive. Immediately it started dumping files on my C drive which was a smaller solid state drive for speed. It did not prompt and ask which drive to load into such as D. Microsoft blamed it on the manufacturer for not designating D drive for downloads. Four days of consulting with Microsoft and about 8 “specialists” from another country yielded a bigger mess. I finally paid a local tech person for 2 days work to correct the disaster created by Dell and/or Microsoft. Now it works great after getting all the files cleaned up.

    Battery life isn't great

Seems like a perfectly fine computer. It's made for gaming but I bought it for the screen size, not it's gaming capability. My only complaint so far (I haven't used it much) is that the battery life seems pretty poor. I have to keep it plugged in if I plan to use it for more than an hour at a time. I imagine gaming features would drain the battery even faster than just surfing the web.

      Hello Cleopatra401,

We're sorry that your computer's battery life is not meeting your expectations. We'd suggest the following tips to help with your battery life:

      Change the Power Plan:

      1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon.
      2. On the options list, click Power Options.
      3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.

      a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
      b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
      c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off.
      d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.
      e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage.
      f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.

Large screen and fast response for designing

When considering a computer that had enough storage and great resolution capabilities, this computer has met that requirement. Having the larger screen for design and presentation, is a real plus. The touch of the keyboard is smooth. I would recommend this computer to any designer using any design program for cabinetry.

My older computer was running slow after a few years of use and maybe some rough handling on my way to school, and this new one runs way better. It is fast and has several new programs, apps, and capabilities that my older computer didn't have. With great speed and memory and a large screen, it certainly makes doing homework or leisure time better.

It's a good laptop, but for the price I paid, I expected better. The SSD makes startup a bit quicker, but only a bit. The built-in speakers are absolutely anemic. The computer hung up several times, but that may have been partially due to not being fully updated. Hasn't happened recently, still disappointing.

I bought this for Photoshop, I needed a fast computer with space and I was told to get a gaming PC. I was so glad to find this DELL because I really wanted a laptop vs a tower but needed the RAM and this little jewel packs in exactly what I needed.

We use this laptop for Radiologists that their software uses a lot of resources and this laptop runs these applications with ease. The SSD that it comes with is a must for modern laptops. I recommend uninstalling all unnecessary software that in comes with.

This laptop is faster, I don't use this laptop for gaming, I am using this to run Oracle \Linux applications on it because it has best processors and it has been so good and I am so happy with it. The laptop is super quite as well.

If you can't afford anything past the $1,000 mark and want a good looking, thin, 17 inch gaming laptop this is a great choice. You can get a great fps with high/ultra settings on many games.

Great PC for gaming or BIM work. Runs a little hot but taken care of with stand. Don't like the touch pad not having spots for buttons that don't also move the mouse point but generally on a mouse so not a big deal.
