Home office networked printer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this printer when it was on sale recently, when the price was very low, to replace a 4 year old Epson inkjet printer. My three printers are networked in my home so family members can use them from multiple PCs. The network setup on the Dell was very fast and easy and I was even able to connect to my work laptop which has our corporate VPN on it. So far it has been very good and the print quality is everything I expected. It warms up in about 30-45 seconds and prints fast enough for my infrequent home office needs. A few observations: - No automatic 2-sided printing. At the low price point I got this for, I won't complain too much, but I do wish it wasn't a manual process. - After about 2 weeks, some parts of the printout simply looked bad. For example, I printed a return label for a very large online retailer and the bar codes all had weird colors in the white spaces and some of the text looked like it had a shadow. I (luckily) found a web-based menu and ran the Recalibration routine (took under a minute) and the printouts looked good afterward. - The scanning software is a little kludgy and I still need to work with it more, but I noticed some usability issues (like multi-page scans creating individual PDF files even though you tell it to combine into one file). Before buying I did some research on refill cartridges and found some aftermarket units that were highly rated and a fraction of the cost of Dell-brand units. Counting on that to keep the cost of ownership down. Will see what happens when that day comes. Overall, for the low cost at the time I bought this, I am pleased with my purchase and welcome not having the hassles of inkjet printing.

Buyer Beware of Dell Exchange Policy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased two of these printers, one for my home and one for my daughter to take to college. The home printer worked fine, but the one my daughter had was defective out of the box (it threw an error code when "waking up" from sleep mode, and required a physical reboot to get it working). Since my daughter had it away at college, it was a difficult situation to resolve. I set up multiple conference calls with Dell technicians and my daughter, where they would take control of her computer and try to change software, firmware etc. Nothing worked, ultimately I had to drive to her college and exchange the printer with the other one. Once I had it, I called Dell again, finally spoke to the "right" person, who told me the printer had a major problem and needed to be replaced. Had it ended there, I wouldn't be writing this review....but it didn't. Dell policy is that they will give you a new printer only in the first 30 days of the 1 year warranty, after that you get a refurbished unit. So, even though it was defective out of the box and there was a log of activity with their technicians, we were now well past 30 days so that was all they would do. No one at Dell was empowered to take the situation into consideration and override their policy. If you decide to buy anything from Dell, my suggestion is that if does anything remotely wrong (paper jam, etc), take it back immediately. This printer also isn't the best with Mac's, and prints certain files very slowly (some sort of problem with the driver).

Inexpensive upfront price, annoying printer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Dell printer because the discounted price caught my attention versus typical HP printers. You hit print and a minute later it prints. It beeps at the end of a print job. The black cartridge lasted 3 weeks and am replacing the Cyan and others at 2 months. I have HP color laser printers in the office that go for 5,000 or more sheets. This doesn't have anywhere near the capacity I am looking for and am paying the price in toner now. Quality of print is fine, and would only recommend this for home use or occasional office use.

Worst Printer ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I gave it a 2 star because it can print good quality when it wants to. The printer has a mind of its own and it is always beeping for adjustment. You cannot print anything if its low on ink.The scanner feeder doesn't work. I would never buy again or recommend anyone to get this.

Printer is a fail!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Printer bought yesterday. Dell claims warranty ends in 11 months! Installation software fails to install the scanner. Support was reluctant to assist. They don't have a solution for the failed installation software and had to send me to some 3rd party software (security risk!!!) to be able to scan. Support started to make some excuse about "installation not working on some computers". That is a bogus statement given I have a Dell laptop that is less than 2 years old!!!!
