Very slow boot. Slow IE load. Touchpad nearly unresponsive. WIN10 HELPED EVER SO SLIGHTLY. Sadly, a total waste of money.

The laptop has been slow ever since I bought it . I stopped using it after the first week of my purchase. When I contacted the customer service, they put me on hold for so long time so many times. I got so frustrated with the product and service that I have decide not to get any dell product anymore . I spent enough money and it was all a wastage as the laptop was spoilt . I would've gotten an IPad or some other company's laptop instead

I found this on sale recently at $399 when I was in the market for a computer to test out Windows 10 with. I was looking at numerous laptops (Many of which had similar or higher costs than this model) and decided to give it a try. So far after doing a bit of light cleanup and upgrading (McAfee is awful and should be removed immediately, I haven't had any major complaints or issues with the laptop, even after upgrading to Windows 10 on this machine.
The i5 processor packs a surprisingly decent amount of speed - if you have the opportunity, choose an i5 over an i3 if you have the budget for it or find one on sale. While the other specs are somewhat minimum by today's standards (1366x768 resolution, Intel HD Graphics. 4 GB of RAM and a 500 GB HDD @ 5200 RPM), it's plenty enough to get you started.with a modern day computer/laptop. Don't expect anything too fancy with this laptop, but you should be able to run a decent number of older/retro-style games on this machine, or use this machine for your Internet needs.
It's a bit on the bulky side being a standard 15" laptop, and this model doesn't offer portability in a tablet mode, but if you want a straight up basic laptop, you can't go wrong with this if you're not looking to spend too much money.
- Note: You may need to update or reinstall your sound card drivers if you upgrade this machine to Windows 10. (I had no sound after the upgrade, but a quick Google fixed the issue)

Reviews on Dell site are more accurate. Purchased on 8/2/15. Slow start up is a problem, and that's before adding additional program apps. Battery life is unreasonably short. Mouse pad is sketchy. While courser has yet to freeze, it often becomes inoperable when trying to click links, switch tabs close (x) a screen, etc. Also, the courser opens a menu on screen when you touch the pad. Using the two finger option to scroll screen works most of the time but not on all web pages. The touch screen is a huge plus and has bailed me out when the courser would not work. Cortana randomly starts so you have to stop what you are doing to close it. It's a nuisance and a distraction. This might be a simple settings fix. The case is flimsy and material has a fragile feel. The keyboard has a good layout though it has no lights, such as caps lock, numb. lock etc. I am transitioning from win vista to win10. Understandably I am facing a learning curve with the operation system. I do like the look and feel of win10 and the new start button is great. Everything is up to date with the latest drivers. I am not sure if the issues are hardware or the newer operating system.

I would recommend this laptop to anyone, I owned a Dell previously so this is my second one, I wouldn't buy any other brand. I first bought a HP and ended up returning it cause the performance just was not there like a Dell. This Dell is fast, I love the touch screen, I love the feature of being able to turn off touch pad(The HP didn't have this option). I give this laptop 10 stars!! You wont disappointed, it is worth every $1 you spend!!

Purchased this laptop less than 8 weeks ago for school and light internet usage (email, shopping, etc). Got a "no bootable drive" error out of nowhere upon start up yesterday, had to run the recovery program. Laptop then displayed message "Faulty hard disk" error, its now being shipped out for hard drive replacement. Very disappointed with this purchase. This purchase replaced a 7 year old Sony Vaio that we loved and had very few issues. Would not recommend at all. Wish we had stuck with Sony or Lenovo.

Advertised with an i5 2.7 Ghz processor actually runs at 2.2 Ghz. HDD works overtime and system bogs even after running with optimum settings.

Having this unit for a minimum of time and already wants to do a system recovery and can not find disks. This computer works good when it wants to but I would recommend going with a different unit.
