I bought the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 three weeks ago and so far it is wonderful! One of my main priorities was getting speakers/microphone that work well. My last laptop had B&O speakers that brought many issues. This laptop has the Waves Maxx Audio and it sounds especially great with headphones on. The speakers do not get that loud compared to my last laptop, but the quality of sound is nice and clear. I almost never hear the fan, which is a huge plus. When I do, at times it sounds a little tinny and unpleasant. I may look into how to fix this. The feel of the keyboard is great. The screen resolution is also great. I highly recommend this easy to use, sleek laptop.

    Terrible Laptop! Do not Buy!

This computer is garbage. Absolute trash. About a month after I bought it, it died. Would not turn on or power up. Dell sent a Tech to the house to repair and he replaced the hard drive. When I got home from work I tried to turn on the computer and it was dead again. Contacted Dell. This time I had to send the computer to them to repair. When it came back, it lasted a few weeks, then died again. Called Dell again. This time, the tech on the phone tried to get me to take apart my computer and troubleshoot on my own. There was no way I was going to do this as I told them it was their job to fix my computer. The Tech then offered to replace my new laptop with a refurbished one. I replied, "It should be replaced with a new one." Their answer was that it's their policy to to only replace with refurbished. In the end, they sent another tech to the house. He fixed it again and it ran good for about a year until recently. Guess what? It's dead again. I do not recommend this trash to anyone. I will never buy another Dell computer and I have been a long time customer. Their policies are unreasonable. They used to be a good company, but now stay away from them as far as you can. Also, the computer keyboard was hard to see in light even after adjusting the contrast. This product deserves a zero, but I guess I have to give it somethin.

The computer volume is too low. I worked with Dell tech support over the phone to try and get this fixed, and it turned out to be a waste of time. The last time that I spoke to one of their techs, I even turned over control of the laptop to Dell support. After that tech finished running tests on the laptop, updating the audio driver and also updating the bios, the problem wasvstill there. So the Dell support tech said my next step was to have a Dell authorized service tech work on the laptop and replace the speakers. Which I did. Yesterday. After completing the replacing of both speakers with new ones, and running several tests, the problem was still there. So he then phones Dell support and explains the situation to them. The answer he received was for me to call Dell software support and let them address it. Dell gave me a phone number to call. After calling that number I was informed that in order for me to have the matter looked at by Dell software support, I had to supply a charge card to pay for it!!! Serious??? This is a brand new laptop that has had audio issues since taking it out of the box 28 days ago and they’re telling me that I have to pay to have it fixed???? This is a load of crap. The tech who was in my house working on the laptop suggested that I just try to return it to Best buy - The store I purchased it from. But why should I do that??? This is not a Best Buy issue. This is a Dell issue. And apparently Dell is not willing to stand behind it unless I pay them to do so. What a joke!!!! So NOOOOOO, I do not recommend this laptop - or any Dell laptop for that matter.? Sent from my iPhone

    Repeated Power issues

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The laptop itself is great to use. The power source has been a repeated problem. So far I've had to replace the charger twice because it stopped working, thankfully under warranty. Unfortunately both times the replacement charger was smaller and provided less power - not the same kind that came with the original device. After the first year of use the battery was less and less able to hold a charge until it needed to be constantly plugged in - I couldn't watch a full movie without it dying even if it started at 100% about a year after purchasing. This is even when trying to keep it between the ideal 40-80% charged. Soon after the second charger was received but unfortunately also after the 2 year warranty ended, the battery itself stopped working and now it only operates when plugged into an outlet. A warning message comes on daily telling me the battery needs to be replaced. So far I have not received confirmation whether during Covid a battery is even available to replace it but lots of offers to "diagnose" the problem for a fee if I send it in and then "if" the part is available it will be fixed for an additional fee. If it weren't for the power issues, the device does everything I need it to. Definitely need a warranty to cover power issues.

    Awful smell from BLOWN SPEAKER!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Had this computer for a little over a week and the speakers apparently have blown. Burning smell and all! They have had low sound the whole time even with the volume on high. I was in MaxxAudioPro trying to see if I could improve the sound level. The sound test was playing music at first and then went to a horrible scratch/screech sound and I started to smell ELECTRONICS BURNING! When I was shutting it down it asked for an update so I went ahead and did the "update and restart". I checked the sound once completed and the scratch/screech was still there. I immediately called Dell and got a testy tech who decided it would be a good idea to inform me that I likely got it wet or dropped it to cause the damage. This laptop has been babied since I got it 9 whole days ago - NOT WET, NOT DROPPED! Then he decided to reiterate that if they receive the laptop back and determine that I caused the damage, they will pause the repair and call for payment! Let's see here... You are telling a new customer with one of your expensive laptops that just had the speakers blow and caused a BURNING SMELL that you automatically assume that they are the cause?!?! Not cool, Dell! 1. Shut it off and don't use it. 2. It will be several days before you receive a return box and slip 3. It will be 7-10 day for repair (If your fault, you pay, by the way!) 4. Ship back ?? I am hoping to have a quick and painless return and replacement with Best Buy tomorrow and to not have to deal with DELL! *Note: The trackpad is a royal pain - doesn't seem to behave well at all, but I was giving that the benefit of the doubt since I rarely use one anymore. Exceptionally disappointed since I order Dells for work. Now I don't know if I could recommend! I am the "tech person" for our department and I didn't appreciate being talked down to nor talked over.

      JoeMP,

Thank you for your detailed review and we apologize for the technical support that you have received up to this point. We hope that since you are still within your return period with Best Buy that you will not have a problem returning or exchanging your computer through them.

If you experience issues with the touchpad on your new computer we'd recommend trying to re-calibrate it with these steps:

Some Notebooks and Tablets with Keyboards have added gesture features to the touchpad hardware and drivers. A few of these features are two or three finger scrolling, pinch zoom, circle zoom, rotate and swiping. These new features may be the reason for the erratic cursor movement since most are turned on by default. You can disable or modify the way the features work in the touchpad driver properties. Here are some tips to modify these settings:

      1. In the Search box, type main.cpl.
      2. Touch or click main.cpl in the list of programs.
      3. Touch or click the Dell Touchpad tab.
      4. Touch or click on the picture of the touchpad.
      5. Touch or click Gestures (depending on your computer there may not be a Gestures option).
      6. Change the options as preferred.
      7. Touch or click Save.
      8. Touch or click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Dell Touchpad Utility.
      9. Touch or click OK on the Mouse Properties window.
      10. If the touchpad still does not work after following the preceding steps, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article - http://dell.to/2iaiujA.

Update on our Dell, yes, still junk

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Just wanted to post a three week review since our dell laptop crashed. Two months after purchse, our brand new Dell laptop stopped working. After hours on the phone with tech support, we were able to get a tech to come out to fix it. After replacing the hard drive and motherboard we were assured that all our problems were now fixed. And he was correct, it worked for five hours after which, you guessed it, issues. By some sort of miracle, our college student whom needs a computer daily was able to limp it through the next two weeks. But yesterday the Dell fix we were assured would fix the computer problems finally gave up. Now, it will not evan turn on. So, back on the phone with tech support. It took the first tech 20 minutes to read the notes on all the isues we have had. When we finally got through to a so called supervisor, the best they could offer pending approval was to replace our junk Dell laptop with a refurbished one. So, even though we paid for a new Dell computer three months ago, we are now being offered a refurbished one to fix our issues. When we pressed for a refund, they said NO because we purchased the computer from Best Buy and not from Dell directly. If you want a laptop that works for about two months, this is the laptop for you. If you feel like spending hours on the phone with tech support, this is a great laptop to purchase. If you enjoy getting emails from tech support telling you the parts are not available and we will get there to fix your issue whenever we feel like it, by all means, buy this one. If you feel like spending full price on a computer only to be offered a refurbished one when you need a replacement, Dell would be your product to buy. We have never had this many issues with a brand new product. And, we have never had this much of an issue with a company trying to get the problem resolved. This weekend, we will be computer shopping three months after purchasing what we thought was a good product. Do yourself a favor and avoid Dell products. The product and the company response have been such a huge disappointment. If any actual Dell personnel read these reviews, they can look up our exp code 347 501 73207 to verify our issues.

      Junk,

Thanks for your review and we're sorry to hear about the experience that you've had with your Dell computer so far. If you'd like to turn your computer on again you can follow these steps:

      1. If the computer is displaying the Dell logo and does not move past that point, it has probably failed POST.
      2. If the power indicator lights up and it is amber or orange, this is usually an indicator that it has failed POST.
      3. If you see text on a black screen, the computer is currently performing the POST. If the computer stays in that condition and does not move past it, it has probably failed POST.
      4. If the video screen displayed anything at all during the startup process but is now black, this probably indicates that the computer failed POST.
      5. If the computer is beeping or if Caps/Num/Scroll Locks are flashing, note if there is a particular pattern in which it beeps or flashes.
      6. If the computer is not beeping and caps/num/scroll locks are not flashing, unplug all connections and remove all media communication devices (e.g. external monitors); reconnect one at a time and check if the computer functions.
      7. For a notebook, press and hold the Fn key and then press the power button. This starts the pre-boot testing and will launch ePSA. In case you have a Desktop at the Dell logo screen tap the F12 key to enter One Time Boot Menu and use the arrow keys to highlight Diagnostics and press enter.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2uj1Sby. We hope that your computer will start working the way that you intended it to soon.

JUNK. Stay away from Dell computers!!!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Junk. So disappointed in our Dell experience. We bought this computer for a college freshman on july 17th. Like other reviews, it worked for about a month before issues started. It started acting up to the point where now it wont evan start up. So, after hours on the phone between my wife and daughter with Dell tech support, they have deemed we need to replace the mother board and hard drive. With colleges being on line, we needed a fix asap. Dell tech support was again no help. We were promised on a Monday, that a tech would be out Tuesday. After a chain of emails, our technician was actually scheduled for Wednesday. Then another email that parts are backordered, causing yet another delay. Then another email with an indefinite delay for a tech to come out to fix the issue. So frustrating tell your college student that their two month old Dell computer issue will be fixed whenever Dell feels like it. As a result, our college student has had to use her phone for class and home work. So between the tech support personnel telling us blatent lies about repairs and a brand new computer crashing and not being able to start, stay away from Dell. If Dell personnel actually read these reviews, they can reach out and do the right thing, offer us our money back or send our college student a new computer.

Despit the “excellent condition” of this item, it was missing a power cord and stopped working less than a month after purchasing. Best Buy provided an after market power cord which worked initially. We bought the laptop for my college student son who took it to tech support at his college and was told that the after market power cord fried the mother board. Best Buy customer support was completely unhelpful, offering nothing because it was past the 15-day return period, not even partial store credit.
