Would not boot out of box

I thought it might be because the i5 chip might require a smaller power supply since they are getting more efficiently designed. In either case, I plugged the computer in and powered it up. The computer booted as expected to a Dell splash screen and then the screen went blank and did not boot further. I tried a few times to get it to boot and it seemed to loop sometimes during the boot process. I bought this to replace an XPS Dell that lasted about 7 months past its warranty. It's very disappointing because the XPS was not used anywhere close to its limits. It was mainly used to surf and for office applications. I will be returning this one tomorrow, but I may switch brands. I'll do some searching to see if Dell is no longer a reliable brand or if I was just unlucky twice in a row.
