I am a photographer and really needed an upgrade size wise from my 22" This certainly fits the bill. The colors are accurate and even comes calibrated from the factory. I ran my own color calibration and nothing changed. If you want accurate color you need an IPS type monitor. This one meets my needs perfectly. There are smaller options available as well.
Best Buy had a good price on it ($649) which made it too hard to pass up.

This Dell monitor supports a large number of display resolutions as well as a variety of input types. These utilitarian features were more important to me than sleek "good looks". I also like the Dell's matte screen. My two main complaints are that the stand is not tall enough to place it at the height I want (I had to put it on top of an old dictionary), and it is slow (taking several seconds) to wake from sleep.

Great Monitor For Graphic Artists & Photographers

Over the course of 3 months I tried several different IPS monitors that I hoped would have done the job! Unfortunately, models like the Apple Thunderbolt display ( Overpriced & Lacking Features ) and a few LG IPS models (Issues with color gamut & reproduction) didn't fit the bill.
Which led me to the Dell U2711 Ultra Sharp, this thing is a beast!!! @ 2560 x 1440 60hz it is the perfect purchase!!
It may seem a bit price prohibitive to some, but it worth the purchase, especially if your in the graphic arts or photography trade like my self, with over a decade of experience in the field, this is the monitor to buy!!
After many conflicting reviews and tons of research on how to set this up with a MAC, here is some advise.. Make sure that if your using with mac, you purchase a Mini Display port to Display Port Cable.. I picked one up directly from a manufacture called Gefen (Model# CAB-MDP2DP-06MM-CO) Forget the supplied DVI, VGA and use the cable I referenced, This is what you need to benefit from the monitors native resolution of 2560 x 1440, which most macs support.
I'm currently using this monitor with a Mid-2010 MacMini Server and a MBP Mid-2011 and it works flawlessly.

High end monitor for the professional

I am a professional photographer and have been using a LaCie 321 monitor for 10 years but it was time to upgrade to a wider and larger monitor, the normal aspect ratio just was not practical anymore. The Dell Ultrasharp was a perfect choice. I am very happy with the build quality, the design and the resolution is exactly what was needed for my purposes. Comparable monitors are selling for almost twice the price. There has been a lot written about the antiglare coating and although I do see the "graininess" a lot of users are complaining about it is only noticeable if you look very closely. Other than that I am very happy with the monitor. I went with Best Buy because I could get the monitor locally after special ordering it and if I was unhappy with it, (that anti glare coating I read about had me worried), I could return it within 30 days.) I am very happy with this purchase.

If you want a top of the line monitor and are willing to pay a few hundred extra then this is a great purchase. I bought the monitor to use primarily for gaming and I am not disappointed. I was debating having a multimonitor setup with smaller and lower resolution monitors or having one really nice high resolution monitor. I think I made the right choice.

Great big screen at a great big cost

This is a really nice monitor but for the price, I expected to be awed and I wasn't. The screen is really big for my workspace and I had to re-sized all of my icons to 'large' to see them but even then, they still looked tiny and way off to the left of my screen. (Hey...I'm over here, center!) So then I ordered the U2412M Dell and honestly, I coudn't tell the difference in photo color quality between the two (using 3872 x 2592 resolution photos). There was a significantly higher image quality for regular video on the 27" though. And then there's the issue on the graininess of the anti-glare for both monitor sizes. Glare or no glare is a choice but again, I expected more for what I paid so I returned them until something better comes along and can wow me.
